This doesn’t have a name, I just made it up 1.5 oz gold Puerto Rican rum .5 oz orange liquor (I used Cointreau) 1.5 oz pineapple juice 1.5 oz orange juice .5 oz lemon juice .5 oz orgeat .25 oz grenadine I tried to float the grenadine on top, but it sank right to the bottom. I would probably just omit next time because I don’t feel like this needs the extra sweetness |

Aloha Mike, I didn't use xantham gum in my version since I was trying to keep it simple. But I did review both of Garret's Derby Daiquiris and post my take. In this case, I thought it took away from the mouthfeel of the original, but it works well in other recipes. http://www.slammie.com/atomicgrog/blog/2011/06/30/the-derby-daiquiri-the-mai-kais-100000-drink/#tribute |

Incantation (à la Black Magic), Garret Richard's tribute to The Mai-Kai classic in Tropical Standard. More than any of his other Mai-Kai inspired cocktails, Garret absolutely nails it with a big and bold, spicy and rummy drink that still retains a perfect balance. Mariano Licudine would be pleased. Those pineapple corers are handy and really inexpensive. From Atomic Liquors in Las Vegas Be sure to mix after serving. Mine was a little sweet at first and a little bitter at the end. Would have been better balanced throughout if I had stirred it. Another Kelly Merrell via TikiLand. Created for the "Beheaded to the Altar" mug. For Krakatoa Day (8/27) I made Kelly Merrell's version of Hele Pele's Krakatoa. Grill Slammer (not Tiki, made this up to go with some BBQ [ Edited by MadDogMike on 2023-09-03 17:35:48 ] |

The second cocktail in The Atomic Grog's frightening flight of deadly drinks for Halloween 2023 is a sinister, seasonal spin on an ominous classic. The Shrunken Pumpkin Head is a tribute to the Shrunken Skull from The Mai-Kai and the many variations served in similarly creepy mugs. I continued a tradition I started last year after the passing of rum collector and cocktail connoisseur Steve Remsberg: I once again kicked off the new year with Stephen Remsberg’s Planter’s Punch (from Beachbum Berry Remixed). There are so many outstanding Jamaican rums on the market now, it's easy to enjoy this classic year after year with different combinations and it never gets stale. As an added bonus, I paired the cocktail with a thoughtful Christmas gift: Jamaica Rumkugeln rum balls from Germany (featuring Jamaica rum verschnitt). Okole maluna and happy new year! (The Hukilau 2016 glassware, designed by Shag and based on masks found in The Mai-Kai gardens.) |
