Hi! Just joined yesterday to add my two cents about the fantastic Trader Vic's in Tokyo. I'm a Bostonian (Go Sox!), but I've been living in Tokyo for about 20 years. I'm also very new to drinking cocktails. Going out in Japan usually means beer (or cheap drinks like "lemon chuhais"). I only discovered the joys of rum this past Christmas while eating at the Trader Vic's in Bangkok. Gotta make up for lost time! |

Howdy all - finally decided to take the plunge. Latest mugs are Brudda Gecko's Kona Gold & a Delftly Foamed #1 from some Crazy guy. Lovin' Tiki Shark's future calendar too. Been Tiki'n for some years & will be going to my first sponsored shindig at the Hukilau this year. Look forward to minglin' with some of the tribe. Going to move our tiki room downstairs to some bigger digs (12X11) soon & will try to document on the appropriate forum. Forgot to do this part. My roommate is Leleliz and since I live among her vast tiki collection I thought it was only natural to join the site too. Oh and my name is Alyce. If you are on her facebook she always refers to me as the "phantom roommate" but I don't think I will be such a phantom anymore considering :) |

Aloha fellow tikiphiles! My name is Corrinna as you might tell from my regretfully very unimaginative username... I just noticed this post now and though better late then never! I am an architectural technologist from Toronto who loves mid century modern architecture, googie design, tiki culture, surf, exotica and rockabilly music and hot weather. I love California for obvious reasons and wish I could move there but in lieu of this, I am planning to open up a tiki bar in Toronto called South Seas Tavern. I came across TC years ago and love the inspirational posts particularly of the home bars! I’m glad I finally made the commitment to join and I look forward to meeting some fun like-minded folks! My husband and I are really excited about going to Ohana and the Hukilau in June and hope to meet a lot of you there! Mahalo and Aloha! Corrinna |

I found this site a couple of months ago as I was researching how to build a portable Tiki Bar for my 4th annual parrothead party coming up on May 21, 2011. After following many great posts I've tracked down and cut several stalks of 3" bamboo in a friends grove , ordered thatch, and baca mat to begin the project. Now I've been sucked in by all the great posts on food and drink. Using your forum, trader vics and beachbum berry, I'll be upgrading my bar drinks for the party. Here's to the pursuit of happiness. What a great forum. |

Tiki Rick here. I know, great name, but I just bought $217 worth of rum last week, only to drink, fondle, fall in love with, and decide to recreate a Rum Barrel from Don the Beachcombers in Huntington Beach, meaning another $100+ on pimento dram, farlernum, pernod, and of course more rum. I haven't perfected it yet, but I figured the collective wisdom of members from this site would come in handy. Plus I've been sneaking in to find cool tiki events for the last 6 months or so. Good to be among the faithful! Rick, I mean Tiki Rick! |

Hi all, have been lurking and reading for a month or two and today found a topic I need to reply to... so here I am registering. I am fortunate enough to be in San Francisco where I can enjoy the safe (and I use the word loosely) harbor of Smugglers' Cove, as well as the enticing ports of call known as Cask, John Walker, K&L and the Jug Shop. Have found many interesting notes and ideas in these pages and my cocktail lab is busy many nights, putting them to the test! Thanks all. |

Hi Everyone, My husband and I recently purchased a bottle of Trader Vic's Macadamia Nut Liqueur. From searching on the internet for drink recipes that use it, we found Tiki Central. From these wonderful forums we discovered Forbidden Island in Alameda and visited last weekend. It was amazing in every way, from the drinks to the decor to the friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. We are now officially hooked on tiki culture! Nice to meet you all! wave :) |

Aloha, my name is Andy Panda and I live in Bethlehem PA. Polynesian pop has been a passion of mine for many years, and I'm really happy to join this forum to talk with like-minded people all over the world. I have a tiki lounge in my basement, complete with a bamboo bar, palm trees, lounge/exotica tunes and many SHAG prints. I'm currently finishing off the basement powder room in bamboo and tiki decor, with an emphasis on artwork and fixtures from the WDW Polynesian Resort. I also have created a Facebook page called A. Panda's Tiki Lounge, check it out if you get the chance. I'm hoping to bring the Polynesia/Mid-Century Modern/Space-Age Bachelor Pad aesthetic to the Lehigh Valley. To this end, I'm working closely with my friends at ArtsQuest, an Arts&Culture organization here in Bethlehem. Stay tuned for announcements of a new event at the ArtsQuest Center, a brand new venue located in the shadows of the old Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces. I will be looking to this community for help in crafting this event. Mahalo! |

Aloha Tiki ohana. I joined around March 17, 2011. I don't remember doing this or not doing this. At the beginning of my trying to join Tiki Central, I had problems with screen names and email address connections and TC would not let me do what I thought was required. Eventually with the help of Lukelele (an acquaintance from other activities) and BigTikiDude I got fixed up. I must have posted a newbie introduction but I don't think it stuck after having reviewed my replies that I authored. |

Greetings everyone! This is NOT an advertisement :) I have always loved the "Tiki way" and decided, along with some others, to start Island Time Rentals, a side business that revolves around this passion. My partners and I have built an absolutely amazing portable Tiki bar system that we rent out. We have a website, but again this post is not an advertisement; rather we are proud to just show off the bar we built. It is constructed of 13 main pieces and can be assembled in less than 45 minutes. It is our first (of a few planned) bars; what a learning experience! Over the past few months we had the wonderful opportunity to meet some amazing folks who have been in this business for decades. We learned more about bamboo that I thought we would learn in lifetime! Please take a look at the pictures in the gallery and let me know your thoughts (good and bad) We would also love feedback from all of you for our next bar too! Please check us out at Tiki2Go.net and look at the gallery section. Looking forward to your comments! |

So wonderful, that I have decided to make it my mission to seek out and embrace the tiki culture. After researching tiki, I have discovered that much of my life has been similar to the embodiment of tiki. I look forward to meeting many more phenomonel ppl. What a great introduction into all things tiki this last weekend. Hope to meet many more tiki ppl at tiki events. |

Howdy! Pleased to meet ya! I have been interested in tiki culture ever since I experienced the Enchanted Tiki Room at Walt Disney World when I was much, much younger and smaller than I am now. I am a fan of tiki art, exotica tunes, and of course the drinks! Though I have not travelled extensively, my fave places are Hala Kahiki near Chicago, Kowloon near Boston, and the Trader Vics in my own backyard, Atlanta. I enjoy culture so much that I decided my next comic book project would be tiki-themed and I am very proud to annouce that the first issue of TIKI ZOMBIE will be available next month! The book is written by me with fan-tiki-tastic art by Peter Cutler. For some preview images, please check out http://www.tikizombie.net. Since I will be debuting the first issue at Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC, can anyone suggest any tiki bars in the area? I'd love to celebrate in style! |

Greetings from a (sort of) newbie! My husband (CephaloTiki) and I have been TikiCentral members since 2009, but don't often make posts and are just now getting around to introducing ourselves. We live in landlocked Kansas City (the Missouri side). CephaloTiki has been a tiki fan since the '90s, but we didn't become tiki-obsessed until around 2008, which coincided with our newfound love of midcentury modern design and pop culture in general. We now have a bamboo bar in our basement overflowing with rum, a cabinet full of tiki mugs, and love trying out classic cocktail recipes (as well as those of the tiki persuasion out of Beachbum Berry's books) while listening to luxuriamusic.com or various exotica records on the turntable. I am also a semester away from a 2nd bachelor's degree (this one in graphic design) and I love Oceanic Arts in Whittier, CA so much that I did a re-design of their website for one of my projects. You can view it here: http://www.amberjennings.com/oceanicarts We're looking forward to our first Tiki Oasis in San Diego this August, and dream of the day a new tiki bar opens in our neck of the woods again. In the meantime, we hope to meet others in the area who are as tiki-obsessed as we are; perhaps get some regular backyard luaus started or meet up for Tiki Tuesdays at the R Bar. I have heeded the siren's call to gather at the tiki bar and after a visit to the Forbidden Island a month-or-so ago have been on a personal quest so-to-speak. One mug has turned into twelve and I am slowly making my way to the local tiki spots, Smuggler's Cove, Trader Vic's (Emeryville & Palo Alto), Kona Club, Conga Lounge and the Tonga Room so far. It has been great start! What a great community! Aloha and okole maluna! Hi all! I'm so happy to have found this forum. I live in NH and I am mad for all things tiki. I also love midcentury modern design and decor so basically my home is decorated like a Shag painting, a blend of MCM with tiki flair, and usually some Martin Denny or Les Baxter playing in the background. My husband and I have been to Oahu twice and are hoping to visit Maui in December. Sadly there is a dearth of tiki in NH and in New England in general. I grew up just outside of Boston so I'm familiar with Tiki Island, the Aku Aku, Tiki Port in Hyannis and Pago Pago in Medway (now closed) but if anyone knows of any other funspots I'm missing out on, please enlighten me! I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone! |
