Part 6: The sculpt has been completed. I had never sculpted with this soft clay before. I did my best to ensure it's safety. I reinforced the cardboard box. I bought soft material to pack around all the sides of the tiki. Then topped it off with peanuts. Then off it went to Dennis at Frankoma in Oklahoma. That night the book I was reading had this. The mug is on the way. A shout out to Joniece Frank for this design. I told her I would always give her credit when copying one of her tikis. Thank you always Joniece. |

Below I'm telling the story in an easy manner. You may notice that there are two white tikis in some photos. This is because they made a master of my sculpt. It is saved to make new molds from in the future. Thank you to Dennis Glascock owner of Frankoma Pottery Company for the photos. Those that are small came from his phone. ============================= Frankoma received the sculpt and made the mug. Clay is used to block the plaster. This way you make one piece, move the clay and do the next. 6 pieces were made for this mold. A master cast for future mold making. The sculpt was removed and after the mold was 100% dry the first cast was done. Now you can see where the opening is at the top which makes it a mug. My sculpt will be returned so I can use the clay in the future for another Frankoma project!!! [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2023-09-12 07:52:28 ] |

Thanks MadDogMike. I enjoy sharing and you and I have that in common. Here are some photos from Frankoma of the mugs being dried and then bisque fired. The first firing shrinks the mug and then they are glazed and fired again. Dennis Glascock owner of Frankoma shared these with me. It's very different to not produce the mug myself. Very relaxing! |

These photos show the mugs that have been glazed. The first are some in white glaze. All the mugs have the glaze wiped off of the FRANOMA, the year and W. Cevola. The number 1 black mug had the head carving wiped off, all the rest of the black mugs (24) will not have that, just number one. The Black, White, Yellow, Red and Caribbean Blue mugs are $60 each and the Other 3, Turtle, Orange and Meadow (green yellow) are not sprayed, they are hand painted (3 or more layers) and are $75 each. More information on ordering these to come soon. Meadow is shown in the last photo. All those chunks that melt in the kiln have to be placed during glazing. Cheers, Wendy |

The first mug (#1) out of the mold was glazed in yellow, the choice of Dennis Glascock the owner of Frankoma. He chose two more colors and then allowed me to choose the next five. There will only be 25 made in each color produced. Plus there will be a few artist proof mugs from when they worked to figure out fonts and location of names and the year. I will share the rest of the colors tomorrow. Photos complementary of Dennis. [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2023-09-15 08:15:22 ] |

Frankoma has been working hard to manufacture 25 of each of these colors. They are releasing on the 22nd and 23 of September 2023. Some may end up being pre-orders. It's been one year since they decided to return to the tiki world. Here are all the colors. Tonight, I will put up all the information for purchase. There is even a photo of the mugs with my white sculpt. Thank you Dennis Glascock the owner of Frankoma for letting me be a part of this event. |

The mugs sold out quickly and so the owner of Frankoma Dennis Glascock will make new colors. Each batch is limited to 25 plus a few glaze tests, artist proofs and seconds. Those sold out too. Thank you Frankoma and Tiki Collectors for this success for Frankoma. I've been hired to do another "souldhavebeen" mug. This time it's the idea of Ryan Stowe. |

The 3rd day of the Sacramento Ohana Crawl began with a visit to the Hawaiian Shirt Shop Swansberg's. Host: Lauren Lauren goes all the way to Walnut Grove to buy special sausage for the event. I want to stand at the table and eat it all! I picked out my Christmas present. Dan will hide these away until December 25th. The Tahitian Pearl. Hosts: Garrette and Heather. The last stop was The Jungle Bird. We skipped it and headed home for a nap. We are so thankful to Jeremey and Stephanie Sherlock and all the hosts who opened their homes. It was an exceptionally great crawl. This was the first time I wasn't out in the gutter behind my car selling the event mug. I just had nothing but fun. 2018 Making the crawl mug was a dream come true, thank you Psycho Tiki D, ten years was just right. Now It's great to be retired from mug production. |

MadDogMike and OGR Or Got Rum? We never got around to driving to see these in the dark. Tonight we handed out 300 plus Tootsie Roll pops in 45 minutes and then came in and shut off the lights. It was crazy with kids in groups of 10 to 20. Safety in numbers. Here are the rest of the ways I tortured Dan! Happy Halloween everyone. |

To wish for a Black Velvet by me a person needs to come up with their idea and present it. Derrick Heritage showed me this statue that is in the Enchanted Tiki Hut at Disneyland. He asked that I do a painting that is also Neon. He wanted the eyes yellow. Then also a tiki pole at each side. Since I couldn't locate close ups of the poles with this statue I used other poles inside the hut. He also requested bird of paradise flowers. Now it's time to put this all together and start painting. |

He picked the frame. I purchased foam board and cut it to fit. Then I cut and cleaned the black velvet (not velveteen). Then I ironed it and stretched it to fit the foam board and then checked it in the frame. Next up painting! |

Hello, coldwarspacemonkey, Or Got Rum? and BeachcomberNC thank you all so much for your comments. I really felt like I was here all alone. I will keep posting now that I've had your input. I appreciate each of you very much. ================================ Derreck requested tiki torches in his painting. Here's how I use blue painters' tape to make straight lines. The black velvet got wrinkles when I gently removed it after painting. I had to re-stretch it again to the foam board. Only too a few minutes. Please feel free to ask questions. |

Part 9: The black velvet wish of Derreck Heritage. He wished for Bird of Paradise flowers and wish granted! These photos show how I also added UV paint. This will be 100% lit up but it should still look fine in regular light. The challenge is that brown and white do not exist in UV colors. I use 50% of regular paint and 50% of UV paint. Eventually the two tiki poles and the man in the middle will not be levitating!!! [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2023-11-10 08:03:33 ] |
