Or Got Rum? Thank you. I enjoy sharing. More steps on the mug repair for Michael P. Once dry the wood putty can be sanded and carved. Also if once this is done and there's a spot needing more it's easily done. Then a black base coat is applied.
Next will come the hard part of matching acrylic paint to the glaze color of the mug. |

Now it was time to paint the repaired area. I tried a bunch of colors trying to match the glaze.
I checked the color by brushing some on a glazed area. It's as good as I can do.
Over a few days I did layers of paint. Then I outlined it with brown and then sprayed it with fix.
From here to there.
The mug is done and has already reached its last destination, Hawaii! |

No one told me there was a staff and head in the box with the tiki I was to repair. The box was so full of tiny pieces of Styrofoam that were flying around and sticking to everything I carefully removed the tiki mug and tossed the rest in the garbage can.
When the mug reached its new home in Hawaii I was asked if I'd seen the swizzle. OH OH, but since we left on a vacation before garbage pickup day, I knew it was back at home. Upon return I retrieved it and boxed it and we shipped it.
The two pieces are now reunited and safely together.
Before and after.

hang10tiki we are still having lots of tiki fun.Michael in Hawaii with his repaired (by me) mug. It's a number one and well worth saving.
Even though I said No Charge for the work he said he was sending Dan and I a surprise box of Hawaiian goodies. Can't say no to that. Wow! just the postage was $18.
I whipped up delicious pancakes for us using the gifts.
I decorated the house with the air plant in the shell gift.
We enjoyed Honolulu cookies for the first time.
Thank you, Michael, he's a facebook tiki buddy. [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2024-05-10 08:12:46 ] |

Start to finish. Elmer's wood putty is my go to filler. Wet the area, fill, let dry, fill again. Let it dry and then sand. Mix paints to match. Paint and then say come and get it Debbie Smith your mug is ready to pick up. |

When Dan asked how we should celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary I said by going to Grand Rapids Michigan. Why he asked. To see Max's South Sea Hideaway of course. So on our actual anniversary we were in a plane on our way. Only problem being that it was 5/27/24 and it was closed for the holiday. Oh well it was fine; we were staying a week. Masks on the plane, dinner next to our hotel and then a walk to see the locked-up building just down the street. |

He took me to the first-floor bar to show me a print of one of my Disney spitting tiki black velvets hung there. Then walking around a found some more of my ceramic art pieces. This trip is great for my ego!

hang10tiki Grand Rapids has so much to offer in addition to Max's South Sea Hideaway. We went to Sagatuck, A Frank Lloyd Wright's house, Meyer Gardens, the zoo, I zip lined there, Grand Haven and the Ford Presidental library. All fun then ended the night with Max's. Our last night in Grand Rapids was spent at Max's. I took lots of photos to show where my art was located. We had dinner there too. Here are some photos.

We found a small Tahiti tiki in our home town of Elk Grove, CA. It is now in the tiki jungle room in front of Dan's bongo lamp.
The Tiki Central MadDogMike tiki art swap has begun. I'm doing a black velvet painting. It's time to join in the fun. The information is on the "other crafts" page. |

The 2024 Tiki Central Swap will end in July so it's time to get going and make some tiki art. This year the swap is to be based on Witco. I've always loved their fountain even though we never owned one. I've chosen to do a black velvet painting. Here are some steps. I printed a photo of the fountain in a size that was just right. I chose a frame and prepped the black velvet. I cut out the fountain.

First, I used the photo to outline the outer edges. Then I cut up the photo and used the pieces to do the inside outlines. If you can print a photo that works for your frame size, then why not make it easy on yourself. Once I finished the outline then I tape the photo back together to use as my model.

Hamo it was nice having you visit here. Maybe that will happen again. All of Grand Rapids was fun and then at 4 Pm it's off to Max's. Time to reveal some more step by steps on my Witco Fountain painting. I did four layers and then highlighted the curve. While painting a show on Pompeii was on. They uncovered a painting.
The Pompeii had a piece that reminded me of parts of the Witco I was painting.
The first painting of Pizza ever found in antiquity.

The 2024 Tiki Art Swap is over, and the swap partners have been chosen. I think that the app that did the drawing had a brain and chose to swap a Witco fountain painting (mine) for a Witco fountain mug (MadDogMike's). Our swap mug has arrived. It was artfully packaged by Mike so it's perfect. Dan worked on a shelf in the tiki jungle room and now the mug is beautifully displayed. Thank you, Mike, for another fun swap.
