hang10tiki my little mouse is so cute, thank you.

=======================

Tiki Ray did another blog. Instead of on my art this one is on our home.

=======================

I finished off the sculpting of the Summer Swap mug. I post it here and there.

There are a lot of different ways to do the lettering. It can be carved into the clay or it can stand out. I used to try to form each letter and stick them on. Now I put on a slab of clay and out line the letter then carve off the clay around each letter. This works really well.

All done and posing. Now it will dry very slowly over a month before firing the first time.

Clay is so much fun. Wendy

Wowzers. Where to start?

Hope everyone had a good Easter/ Passover/ Secular weekend!

I love the coconut wahini mug- and dig how the carving on the wahine's dresses is matching the carving on the coconut. So cool!

The Luau mug looks amazing- I'm going to stop by the studio today (hopefully) to check on the drying of mine- though after seeing yours I should just toss mine. (Just kidding- sort of). :)

I also LOVE the Rapa Nui mug- great idea, can't wait to see it- AND Jon's Rapa Wish list mug.

Thanks for all!

R

Love the coconut girls and the Luau coconut. Awesome work!

The swap mug looks great Wendy
Awesome

TikiAno, RVICTOR and hang10tiki I am so grateful for your support. I look forward to reading each comment. Tiki Ano you better not, you've done a great piece and we may be swapping, it's never happened before so this may be our year!

================================

When I was working out how to do the three hula girl coconut goblet I made a support for the coconut. I didn't end up needing it. I decided not to let it go to waste. Here is what I made.

All done and drying. Cheers, Wendy

Freekin awesome

hang10tiki are you referring to me or the art? Hahahahhah! I call this the King's Goblet.

===============================

The end of sculpting for the Wish List #7 this is for Cybernel aka Nelson Osorio. To get this bowl done I didn't take as many photos as usual. But during the glazing I will do more. Washing my hands to use my camera takes a lot of time.

The most complicated hula girl bowl I've ever made. I cleaned up a bowl and got started.

I cast a mermaid and began to alter her.

I was able to twist her head into a less defiant pose.

I filled in the tail and began a lei.

I did scales and the flower in her hair.

On a different day once the clay was firm I carved the disks into flowers.

I made an air escape outlet and

using sticky clay placed the hula girl into the bowl.

Then I added her tail.

The bowl was too deep to attach the hula girls around the sides so I cut it down.

One by one I altered the outside girls to match the first batch that eventually went to Owen.

Once I had them altered I attached them with sticky clay. This clay also has to be free of air pockets to prevent blowing up in the kiln.

The sculpting is done.

One last touch, the wave pattern around the bowl.

Yippy the sculpting is done for the Wish List projects. Now it's time to let them dry.

Cheers, Wendy

Am I ever NOT going to be amazed when I look at your thread?

You OOOOOOZE tiki. I bet when people get near you they hear Don Ho in the background.

Looks great
But
Are you sure that's the biggest Wendy bowl?

What about this monster?

Badd Tiki that is so funny. Tiki does consume each day of our lives. Thank you.

hang10tiki I completely forgot about that bowl. It was larger and heavier. Mike Remmel designed it and came over to help make it with suggestions and I even put clay in his hands a few times to freak him out!!!

HERE IS THE REST OF THE STORY...

The Wish List sculpts are done. My schedule has been:

Casting pieces starting in June 2016 so I could just pull something off the shelf and make the Wishes.

October 2016 I sculpted the next Sacramento Crawl mug. I started just days after the crawl.

Started working on Wishes even though I said I wouldn't start until the end of December. I accomplished something almost every day.

We made the mold for the crawl mug 10/26/16 and got it drying. The fastest start ever!

Once the mold was dry on 12/22/17 we cast the first mug. Every day we cast one crawl mug and did this for 85 days.

In addition to the Wishes I spent 1.5 hours each morning cleaning and fine tuning one crawl mug. I will be sharing more photos in the future.

As of last week I am down to the last 5 crawl mugs to glaze. All the rest are boxed and ready for the October crawl. Check out the CA events page for information.

I continued to work on the Wishes 7 days a week finishing the sculpting yesterday.

Here's the rest of the story.

During this time I developed an irregular heart beat. I wore a halter monitor for 24 hours. The tape is horrible. The tests just showed PVC's which for my age is normal. Good news.

At the same appointment I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel on the left side. I've had the surgery on the right a decade ago. Too much clay work. I pushed it every day. I have to wear this brace at night. It keeps my first two fingers and thumb from going completely numb.

The best part is I surpassed all my goals and now Dan and I are going to take around a month off while all the projects dry. Then it will be a marathon to sand and bisque fire and to start the glazing. With the crawl mugs all done it will go much faster than all the sculpting.

If I have surgery on my hand I will wait until all of these projects have been completed and shipped. If I am lucky taking time off will repair my hand.

Meanwhile here are some more photos of life and clay days.

==================================

On a trip to Tiki Oasis we got a small crack from a rock. Time to replace the windshield.

I thought this would be a fun photo.

But a few moments later I found that he had already put the black sealer around the window and I had it on my arm and I had transferred it to my camera and then to my shirt. That stuff sticks like tar.

You all know I love to alter Tiki Bob's. I also love these mid-century cats. So here's a purrrrrrrrfect fit.

========================

My plan is to not do anything with my hand that I can avoid. No typing or repetition in movements.

My thread here on Tiki Central is now going to be run by hang10tiki until I return to work in a month, maybe less if I start to go crazy. But for now this is goodbye.

I hope you can all have fun posting here while I'm gone. I will look forward to reading these at the end. This is going to be a challenge for me but if I turn on the computer I will want to respond to messages so the computer will stay off.

Have a great month. Thank you hang10tiki for taking over while Dan and I just relax and play with no clay in sight. Horrors, I'll miss you all and the clay.

Cheers, Wendy

Enjoy your down time and get healed up soon, Wendy!

Phew - no wonder you need a rest.

Best of luck with the hand surgery & ENJOY your well-deserved time off!

Stay healthy Wendy and Dan. You deserve a break! I hope that the rest helps your hand. I will try to do my part posting on your thread so it keeps on living.

We will miss you and I hope TC still exists without you :wink:

Goodbye for now.

Wendy- rest up
But get well fast
You guys rock the tiki world
Enjoy some downtime
Feed Dan-0 lots of cookies
I'm sure we can keep your post up n running :)

I was thinking
Maybe all you Wendy mug owners can post pics of
your Wendy mugs in action
Fill em up
Take a pic
Post it
Enjoy your cocktail
Repeat
:drink:

Or anything else you want to post a photo of...

To fill this 2015 mug with alcohol and expect to make it to work tomorrow would be ludicrous, so this photo was taken where it is proudly displayed in my bar.

Ukulele Bob, dry.

I'm glad Wendy didn't like how this came out (maybe it's the weathered white of TB's face, which is exactly what I love about it)!

Well, that and the fact that Tiki Bob is playing a uke. Still not sure what song he's singing......

Ano-
when I look at him I can hear this song

T

Jon, unfortunately we had to move out of our little grass shack because of......

..... smokers.

(It was good while it lasted...)

.....

.................

.....................................

Actually, that was our FIRST little grass shack.

The second one went down in a fiery blaze after a dragon taco party.

(Long story, but an accurate retelling can be found in the children's book "Dragons Love Tacos" (which I highly recommend, and where I borrowed this image).
