This repair request was for two mugs! The steps are: wet the bisque, add the wood putty, sand when dry. Then paint to match. [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2022-06-26 16:52:00 ] |

It's time to get started on the next wish list black velvet painting for Horror in Clays very own Jonathan Chaffin. Here are all the parts to his request. He photoshopped all these parts together. This is a family request with his kids making requests too. The tiki needs to change to a front view Suffering Bastard with a citrus or cherry garnish. The pineapple needs spiked teeth. Little touches to make it special for them. I will share the steps as these proceed. |

hang10tiki we all know that artists never stop working, you included! Time to post the first steps on the black velvet for Jonathan Chaffin. His wish begins to take shape. I'm going to have to start and then change what I'm doing a whole lot of times to get this close. Example: I paint the pineapple shapes and they are not right so I cover them up with a base coat of green. If you know me, you know I love coincidences. I could have started with the tiki instead of the pineapple. But because I did it in this order when on the TV I spied a couple of pineapples I stop and take a photo to show I had one. All fun. |

More steps on Jonathan Chaffin's black velvet wish. These will show how I print photos, cut them up and use them to draw out the parts of my painting. Then I did a first of many layers to block out some of the colors. |

Hamo, I'm also sculpting mugs and even helping Robert mold them. He's the fellow who bought all my supplies. So once he's set up he'll start making them. Back in the game! |

Thank you MaukaHale, I am not Windy! Thank you hang10tiki I love the countdown. ======================================== Time to do another repair: This is Jack Malley's favorite mug. A shelf fell and this happened. I fixed it for him. Steps: figure out how all the pieces go. Wet the white exposed areas so that the glue will dry slowly. Put on a thin layer. Press the pieces firmly together. Wipe off the excess glaze. Tape pieces together with some stress to keep the pieces firmly in place. Leave for 24 hours and don't do them all in one day. Elmer's wood putty. First, I rub it into all the cracks, then I wipe off the excess. Then I paint on more putty and let it sit overnight. The next day I sand off the excess. Then it's time to paint. I try to match the paint but since I only have a limited number of colors to mix it's never perfect. It's enamel rather than acrylic. Painted it is a mug now for display not for use. The difference in color between his mug and our shakers is that his is from Tiki Bob's. Ours are from Tommy Lee's Islander, Stockton, CA. I shipped his home today. |

Ryan Stowe's black velvet wish was for this bullfighter with a war god head looking like the mug below, one I made with Gecko. Use these colors from a past painting and make the war gods teeth white. In 2009 I saw this broach on eBay. Made in the 1940's it caught my eye. I saved a photo so that one day I could paint it. Here are the steps. This painting is currently in the art show at Tiki Oasis San Diego 2022. More steps to come. |

Day Seven. Day six. Day Eight. Day Nine. On the way home we stopped in Fresno to see the Caffee Zoo. I have to do a lot of painting to use all the supplies I picked up in San Diego. It was a wonderful trip seeing so many friends. We have been home 10 days and we are well. Masks work. In photos where I'm with a person and it's pulled down...I'm holding my breath until I move away and pull it up again. Stay safe my friends but have lots of tiki fun. Look at all the fun people you met up with at Oasis. I'm sorry we never found each other; I never found Mike either, even though we were wearing the exact same aloha shirt that day. I did stumble into GROG, which was marvelous. I think next year we need to plan a Tiki Central meetup so we don't miss anyone. |

Hamo, we have had cell phones since the first one that weighted 6 pounds! However, we never turn mine on ever, but we turn Dan's on if we have a pre-arraigned day and time. That's why we were able to hook up with MadDogMike. So if we go in 23 we will have to exchange numbers and work it out. I'll hold you to that hug! Wendy |

Back in July I started the next black velvet painting. This one for Ron House. His idea my hands. To start here are the helper photos from him and those I collected. Requests were that a hula girl be topless and hold the ceramic skull mug that he has produced as a ceramic artist. The rest was left up to me. The last photo was of my TV. I thought the picture resembled the painting I was working on! This picture was a help because I could see that my painting needed a "lift". I will fix it.
