A friend had her favorite clock fall off the wall. I knew before I started that I couldn't match the real gold edge and told her so. But I gave it my best shot. I was able to match the blue paint. |

Hi Will carve. I've enjoyed your back and forth with hang10tiki for years. I'm so happy to have TC up and running again. It was fun repairing the clock. I wish there was a better gold out there. I tried several and settled on this one. Keep on having tiki fun. Wendy |

It's not a paint. Many times it's real gold. Rub and buff might work better too. [ Edited by tikiskip on 2022-12-10 05:18:03 ] |

tikiskip gold foil was mixed in a solution that I tried first but it was bumpy. I'm not skilled enough to use those sheets. The best I could do was use the acrylic gold paint. Thank you for the information. Or Got Rum? You are very kind. hang10tiki ha ha that was clever. |

What a surprise to go through old photos and find one with a PNG tiki. These kids are Dan's nephew and niece. This was located on Interstate 80 at the Nut Tree. It's no longer the same place but it was sure fun for decades of travelers. [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2023-01-10 19:38:56 ] |

I have finished the Black Velvet Wish of Ari Yuasa in Japan. These photos represent the items he requested be in his painting. On the base of the statue, he wanted these words. Having the wish so well laid out makes it so much easier for me to fulfil a wish. |

I showed Ari the frames that would work best with his painting and he chose the one in the center. I printed the photos and cut some out to show him how it would look. He said he needed the Menehune to be as large as possible. I did my best to draw it rather than to trace the one I printed. I cut a cardboard to fit the frame and then I used a box cutter to cut it out and a paint pen to do the outline. Now it's set up to go. [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2023-01-24 13:36:26 ] |

My technique for Black Velvet paintings is to layer paint over the area and then I am able to do as much detail as needed and if I make a mistake, I am able to fix it. I did two layers, then I blocked in the different parts. Then I painted a layer on the sarong in yellow. This took days because of drying each layer overnight. |

More steps for Ari Yuasa's black velvet wish. Time for toenails and fingernails. I kept trying over and over again to get the words the right size and shape for the base of the statue. Every time I messed up, I had to paint over the words and let it dry before trying again. I got it on the fourth try! Then it was fun to add some designs on the sarong. Time to figure out what goes next. Thank you for the visit. |

Well heck, this painting is actually done and in transit to Japan. Today on fb it was pointed out to me by fb readers that I left off an "of" and the "n" in Sunset on the base of the statue. I have talked to Ari in Japan and we have two options. One he could take it from the frame and send it to me at my expense and I could do the repair and send it back. Or he could bring it to my home and have a visit. Wouldn't that be fun? So this next post shows how I did the shell necklace. I printed and cut out just the right size of shell so I would get the shape just right. Then I painted the layers. I will also tweak it in the future. Here are the steps. !! I still did not notice the "of" and an "n" were missing. Thank you to Swizzle and Colleen for pointing it out so I could talk with Ari about it. |

Wendy, I've been lurking and watching your progress on all your "wish" projects for the past couple of months and I must say that this one is your masterpiece. In my opinion, the misspelling on the base fits perfectly into that whole "Janglish" sensibility that I love so much about Japanese popular culture, so I hope the lucky recipient was cool with it. |

hang10tiki ah, thank you. MrBaliHai he was exceptionally nice. He does visit California every so often so I told him to remove it from the frame and bring it here and I would correct it. He may do that and have a fun visit also. I liked that my brother-in-law wrote: "At least it's not a tattoo". If Ari wants to mail it here, I will cover that cost and fix it and mail it back. But I liked what you wrote. He actually thought along those same lines. He'd love that you like it best of my paintings. There are more steps to come. Thank you. |

More steps for Ari Yuasa's black velvet wish. This time I'm working on the Puffer Bob. I had a baby puffer that I brought out to help me along. I did parts and then let them dry before proceeding. I sure didn't want to smudge any parts on velvet. Just a bit of makeup before calling it a night. [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2023-02-02 20:09:53 ] |

I found a photo of a nice rock border to a garden and printed a helper photo. Then I went to work. I also did another layer on the words at the base of the statue and again missed the errors! So many opportunities to catch it and never did. I did do a bunch of layers on the rocks until they were done. |

Tiki Central Swaps have been a blast for many years. The best part of the swap is all the friends you make along the way. Zerotiki and I swapped and now we are swapping back. We met at Wilfred's in Napa, CA for lunch and a nice long visit. The food was outstanding. They liked their cocktails too. MadDogMike made the ceramic version of the tiki in my painting and gave it to me as a gift. This is the vintage version that was my model for my painting. Thank you Zerotiki for your friendship and all the fun. PS the paper he is holding in one photo is a secret message that you can find at the top of all the umbrellas that come with your drinks, they have to be translated later [ Edited by danlovestikis on 2023-02-21 12:15:00 ] |
