Here's the link. I watched it before I went to bed tonight. You two should see if there is a world record for most tikis!

http://fox40.com/2017/03/09/elk-grove-couple-turn-home-into-tiki-paradise/

MaukaHale thank you for sharing the link. We went to sleep before it came on and just watched it this morning. They did a great job.

Only two things that could have been better. One when they mention the Wish List they are showing a mug by the Witch Doctor and the other is
that although I told them of the Jungle Bird on 21st and J street downtown it didn't get mentioned in the show. She did say they planned to
visit it soon and that they know it is popular.

Overall we are really happy that they came and we all had fun running around.

Treg (aka lunavideogames) did you see I set up your mug to be in the show?

If you noticed I have done some glaze tests on the Sacramento Crawl mug. I haven't found the perfect glaze yet so I'm going to have to do some more.
Photos in the future.

Thank you everyone for making all of this possible. Wendy

T

That was so awesome to see you guys on TV again! :)

Awesome

Every time I see a video of your awesome collection
I see an entire new area that amazes me

The never ending collection of awesomeness

TikiHula so many all at once. I wish it were spread out over many years. It is a lot of fun. I was tired and didn't do well but that's OK.

hang10tiki Dan would say it is tiki craziness.

=====================================

I took the day off and we went to an antique show in Dixon, CA.

We ran into our dear friends Amy and

Psycho Tiki D. That was the highlight of the day.

No tikis but Dan scored 18 albums and 8 CD's at thrift stores.

=====================================

Wish List #8 photos of the steps for the Theo Stool Diver Down mug.

I began carving the windows. I went only as far as was safe because I

didn't want to break through into the mug.

I go the top depth done but this shows that the side is in progress.

I started to make the skull to match the drawing. I used clay on a balloon. It didn't work.

Then I remembered what GROG said about making a solid sculpt and digging out the excess clay at the end.

GROG solved one problem but now I think this looks like a baboon!

More soon. Time to go to work. Cheers, Wendy

Wish List #7 continues with Theo Stools Diver Down mug.

GROG really helped me with a new technique of making something with a solid piece of clay. Then when

I finish the piece digging out the backside. It worked. Thank you GROG for sharing Babalu's technique.

To stretch the clay backwards into the helmet I kept adding layers of sticky clay then pressing it backwards. This kept the clay thick enough that I didn't push through.

Now it was time to put the skull into the helmet to see if it would fit.

Relief! Behind the jaw it is open so that I am not trapping air that would explode the mug in the kiln.
I added broken supports for the glass face that is now gone. That is why he didn't survive his dive.

Now it was time to seal the bottom of the mug. I cut a slab off a huge brick of clay. Then using a rubber mallet I

pounded it to the right size and thickness.

I use sticky clay as glue. I make this from the excess clay I cut off cast projects. I put it in a plastic container and then I pour slip on top of it.

I spread it around on the clay slab and

I then use water on my fingers to smooth it. This prevents air bubbles.

I pressed the helmet into the sticky clay firmly.

Then just like grouting tile I wipe the excess away.

Then I use a roll of soft clay to seal it all together.

The last step was to cut away the excess slab.

This mug is not done yet. More steps will soon follow. A hard but fun project. Wendy

Wendy, that is really looking good.

I agree
Looks great

Poor fella didn't survive the dive

Great video Wendy & Dan! So fun to see you guys get some good coverage.

I saw that you had my mug out, thats awesome!

I love the diver mug, it is coming along really well/

MaukaHale, hang10tiki thank you. I sure do love comments.

lunavideogames on another video I had Bullets cat out, the next video the crawl mug and then the last video your mug. It happens when the timing is just right.

Wish List #7 finishing off Diver Down for Theo Stool

Theo supplied the sign to add on the back of the mug. I wet it so it would stick.

I traced all the letters and

then carved them to match.

Starting with the top it is now done. He asked me to age it with sea shells and I also added some coral.

Here's look'n at you kid.

I have some easier projects coming up for the Wish List and then some of the hardest. The fun challenges never end, Wendy

Wow, that Diver Down mug looks spectacular!

Congrats on the latest TV coverage.

bamalamalu thank you twice. It's been a really fun year so far.

=============================

The Sacramento Crawl mug and the Wish List #7 require a lot of supplies so it was back to Alpha Fired Arts, my favorite place to shop.

While I pick out glaze Dan gets all the slip jugs filled up.

From their huge jugs to our small jugs.

Then it's back to work. Wendy

Dang
Diver down is a great one
Good job

hang10tiki thank you always for keeping me going.

================================

Time to get back to the Sacramento Crawl mug. For 80 days (so far) we cast and I clean up one crawl mug. Here are the steps that take 1.5 hours to complete.

Dan said that once we began making tiki art he appreciated his collection and the amount of work that went into each piece.

I decided that none of the detail was deep enough so I re-carved every indentation on every mug.

All done and ready to dry.

To make a run of mugs you have to decide to either make a whole bunch of molds or cast once a day for a whole lot of months.
We don't have space for extra molds so casting once a day for months is how we do it. I can only clean one a day any way.

Cheers, Wendy

That Tahiti mug is the bee's knees.

HopeChest I HOPE to start your Wish Mug soon. I wrote to you this morning via email. First time I've heard the Bee's Knee's. Thank you.

==============================

The Wish for Raymond McCormick has been sculpted.

Appraiser For The Assessor Tiki Bob mug in a suit.

I just start with the arms and then the shirt and tie. Then the lapels for the suit. I start thick and whittle them down once they are firm.

I like to use a wooden stick for the lettering. It doesn't tend to go too deep like the metal tools. I can also sand it sharp often.

One more word.

Done and posing.

Now I'll check with him to see if I got it right. Wendy

You're knocking 'em out ballpark, Wendy. Keep up the great work.

R

Diver Down...great stuff.

GROG thank you. When I was little I played baseball all summer long. Your comment brought back some great memories.

RVICTOR the diver is going to be made again on Wish List #8. But guess what is up now? Yep your mug. Thank you.

===================================

Wish List #7 for RVICTOR

RVICTOR's idea was born from this Spanish Mug. How cool to have a fog coming from the top of a tiki.

He drew this picture. You can see he is an artist. If he were set up he'd be doing his own mugs.

I showed him how close I'd come to making something like this in the past. It never occurred to me to make the dry ice holder.

I showed RVICTOR the fogcutter choices.

He picked the one with the rim at the top and bottom. I cast and cleaned the two pieces that will soon become one.

I opened up the top of the tiki and inserted a tube of clay.

I lowered it until it touched the bottom. I will remove the excess from the top after the next step.

Now I used sticky clay to adhere the tube to the top of the tiki and to

the mug. I also started adding the lava rocks at the base.

Now I copied the wonderful drawing and added the drooling lava.

I added lava texture by poking the clay.

The tube of clay I inserted into the Frankoma War God was now ready for expansion.

I made it as large as was safe. I had to be careful to not trap air between the tube and the wall of the tiki.

All done and posing unless RVICTOR finds it needs a change.

This was a really fun project and the drawing made it so much easier. Cheers, Wendy

Man! I really dig that. Crazy!

I have two mugs from RVICTOR from the art swaps. My favorite is his Enchanted Tiki Room mug.

Wow that is a great mug and a great idea!!!

Two thumbs up!

Holy idea and execution
Great one

GROG posted on Tue, Mar 21, 2017 12:44 AM

Was the bottom of the tiki open? Why did you have to add the tube?

D
Danno posted on Tue, Mar 21, 2017 7:36 AM

Awesome work Wendy!!

lunavideogames I really enjoyed making this from the picture that RVICTOR did of his mug idea. I am pouring the parts today to make your second Tiki The Hut mug with the tail. This is going to be very weird. I hope I can pull it off, not the tail just the idea with the tail.

hang10tiki thank you for mentioning execution in a good way.

GROG Dan has a collection of the Frankoma War God Mugs so when I molded one I decided that I would only do statues so that I wouldn't reduce the value of the original mugs. Yes the bottom is open and the top closed on the casts. This was my idea, Joniece didn't put any restrictions on what I could do.

Danno when I get a compliment on my work I am so happy but then I have to add that the idea was RVICTORS.

======================

Every day is so tiki busy that it's hard to find the time to post but I will always try. Your comments make it worth the effort, thank you all so much.
Wendy

H

I LOVE that dry ice idea and the artwork and execution are perfect. Well done to both of you.

HaleTiki thank you. RVICTOR doesn't check in here every day. I am still waiting for him to find his photos.

=============================

Catch up photos.

Once in awhile I google my name to see what pops up. Many times I'm associated with art that I didn't do. On page 10 I saw the name of a site I didn't recognize so I clicked on it. I found one of the first things I made with I started using the hula girl that became the Hot Tub Hula Girl. First photo top line. Too bad the head doesn't show in the photo. This is owned by Loki Tiki.

===========================

Update on the Wish List. I am still in the sculpting phase. I just went through the Wish List #7 binder and made a list of what I still need to sculpt.
I have already done a few on the list. The end is in site for sculpting, maybe 3 more weeks.

I had a wish. I found two shelves in thrift stores and Dan hung them up for me.

$10 and $3.

I put all the newest shot glass finds on the shelves and I am happy to find that I still have room for more. The cheapest one I've ever gotten was 25 cents. Most were 50 cents to 1 dollar. Thrifting is so much fun and we only discovered it a year ago. We missed a lot of tikis.

Thank you for the visit. If I had more energy I would post more tonight but I need to rest my hands. Cheers, Wendy

Wish List #7 lunavideogames wanted me to try my best to add the Jabba the Hut tail to his Tiki The Hut mug.

So here it is.

I cast all the parts and carved all

the detail except for the side the tail would attach to.

I began building the tail. Thanks to GROG's suggestion I will carve out the excess clay later.

Once the tail was shaped I finished

re-carving the detail.

Now I set him aside and worked on

the girl. I used the first one as a reference.

Now she is done and it is time to attach her to the tiki.

I will need to cut the log she is sitting on.

All done and posing.

lunavideogames did it work or is it a bust??? If the tail works do you want carving on it to match the tiki? Wendy

R

I think you pretty much nailed it. Fantastic job! My wife will get a kick out of seeing it made as she really liked the drawing. I think this one will be hers.

T

Holy Moly I missed tons! Wendy, Treg's mug is fantastic- your carving & sculpture continues to get better and better- I didn't think that was possible, but then I saw the features on Leia's face- wowzers. Great idea and fantastic work.

Love RVictor's Wishlist piece, too.

So many more thumbs up for all of your posts- LOVE the new Crawl mug, too.

Lots to go back to look at, will come back, another 15 hour work day and I need some shut eye!

(I should use some time to figure out something for the NEXT Wish List, ha!)

Treg's 62 pound mug looks great

RVICTOR you are such a great artist. Again you need to frame your drawing to go on the wall above the mug. I look forward to seeing it with the dry ice.

TikiAno it sure is good to see you here and on the swap thread. You are going to have a lot to do forever. I hope you can play here sometimes too. When does Tiki Ari start school? Photo update?

hang10tiki You must be good at evaluations because I think it is 6.2 pounds. You just forgot the decimal point!

==================================

Wish List #6. I tried to make a coconut Tiki Bob fruit bowl today and I couldn't do it. So instead I made a Coconut Tiki Bob bowl.

This would have been for Shann Shann Singer but now it's just on spec.

I took all the parts and one by one I

cleaned them up.

Next I cut out the back of each Tiki Bob until

they fit the coconut.

Then I put a ring of very sticky clay around the cut out area.

I pressed the tiki into place and used my finger and a brush to remove the excess clay.

Once all four tikis were in place I carved the coconut texture into the bowl and the Bobs.

Then I "sanded" them with a wet brush.

All done and posing.

Now I have to start over on the Wish. Wendy

I'll bet Dan-0 grabs that one

Veeeeery niiiiiiice

Tiki the Hut is going to be a MASTERPIECE!
your output is consistently amazing!
And it's so wonderful that your talent is being shared with SO many people
here and everywhere! Such a reward for all the love you put into your creations and the love you share with us via your posts and narratives! Hugs to you and Dan!
Love the Bob bowl!

hang10tiki turns out Shann Shann decided that she wanted this bowl but with fruit added. I'm working on that now! It will be different than a traditional bowl.

little lost tiki your talent with words are only surpassed by your artistic talent with paint. I wish I could express myself as well.

Thank you both for words that encourage me to keep on working as well as make me smile.

==================================

Hunting for tikis is more fun than eating a good meal.

Dan was on his knees looking for records at a shop in Jackson, CA.

We didn't buy these we have no more wall space. They were $250 for the pair.

Our next trip was to Oakdale, CA were we found the matchbook on the left.

We waited on F street for a half hour until this store opened. This display was all they had for tiki. We didn't buy anything here.

I do take time off to rest my hands and we sure have fun being on the hunt. Wendy

Wish List #7. When Shann Shann decided that she liked the Tiki Bob bowl as I had made it the wheels started turning and she asked if I could also add strawberry's, cherry's and a lime slice. This is a Happy bowl.

So here's how I did it. She will let me know if I did it right or not.

First I printed photos to go by.

Then I made a couple of cherry's.

Next I started on the lime.

The strawberry's were harder. I started making the leaves.

Details.

I can't make hundreds of seeds so I just made the indentations and then

brushed them smoother.

All done, posing and waiting for fun comments.

I am grateful for your visits here. Wendy

J

Hi Wendy, for the texture of seeds on the strawberries, you can use one of those tiny drink straws and squish one side so the opening is kinda teardrop shaped. Then press the end of that into the clay to get the indentations.

W- wow, you made that look great
Awesome as always

T

Wendy, love the citrus slice on top of a mug- and why has no one done that before??? (Or, has someone done this and I just missed it?)

Dang, and for a moment I thought I was going to get a Bob Bowl????

JenTiki that is a brilliant idea. I've never drunk coffee but Dan does. I'll take him to a coffee place to get some. You opened a whole new door. Now the question is do I have time to go back and do it again. This type of innovation just rocks my clay world. Thank you.

hang10tiki ah, thank you. I just looked at all the photos you posted on "Collecting Tiki" that you got from the 60's film. I hope everyone goes and looks at these. Those days are long gone.

TikiAno There was a made in china salt and pepper set 10 years ago that resembled a mug with all the fruit and the lime slice as an adornment. I wish I'd had a set as a guide. Ah no Bob bowl for you. You need to make a Tiki Ari bowl for his cereal.

I'll try to post photos later today.

I was working on a Wish and it went haywire so I ended up with this one. It was a while back so I almost forgot to post it.

I call her the Moo Moo Hula Girl because I will paint bright colored flowers on her dress when she is glazed.

Cheers, Wendy

:)

hang10tiki (=; that's the wink one.

Ha I think I just sent those same pictures.

Hang10tiki - I wonder what ingredients would go into it? :)

T

Treg, I'm sorry, but your SECOND wish list mug's theme (depiction) leads the way in a , Wendy, that I wouldn't ever want (the other one was a yankees Bob a few years ago)- due to theme.

I can suggest a few things to go into it... none would be appropriate to list here. :)
