That AL DEAD fez bowl with the shrunken heads... it is SO darned cool! I absolutely love it!

I keep meaning to mention that whenever you have that poinsettia table cloth in a picture it makes me think of my Mom. She had the exact same tablecloth! I love seeing it because I get to see cool tiki and think of family at the same time!

Keep on rocking, Wendy! This batch of wish list creations is so phenomenal! Things I never could have thought of coming to life and looking fantastic! I love the creativity of everyone coming together with your amazing talent and artistry!

Wendy, I love the bowls for the kids- hopefully it will be exciting for them to receive- possibly encourage future clay artists (possibly tiki artists???)

'Ano can be translated as "strange" or "weird" in Hawaiian (other definitions, too). "Strange Tiki." Not "ano" as in "year" in spanish... :) Thanks for asking!

hang10tiki GROG always gets the girl. Dan watched GROG get so many hugs at an event he mentioned it. No wonder he's on TV.

DooWop that is such a sweet story. When Dan and I are in antique stores tiki hunting I often find toys of my youth. They trigger fun memories and so I take photos and keep them in my sentimental file. I find the photos do the trick as much as the actual item. I've been taking photos and passing on lots of things to my great-niece. That makes more room for Dan!

Tiki Hula thought up a great design, we both thank you. Now it the repairs will hold we'll have a great piece. I still need to carve the down hill for the rum pocket on the top of the fez.

I have a lot of fun fulfilling wishes. Everyone comes up with fun ideas. I like the challenge.

TikiAno now that's a fun name. You need to make a strange or weird mug to go with it.

It was fun making the bowls that the girls requested. The 9 year old, I had it wrong, makes wands for her friends so I surprised her with the wand part. The 4 year old wanted a dolphin or a butterfly so I gave her both. I like making children smile. On the bottoms I left my name off and put Love Daddy 2014, that's the surprise for dartharnie. We'll see if he reads it here or finds it when the bowls are finished.

hang10tiki I missed GROG's episode, I was watching my clay take shape. I'll have to watch for re-runs.

LoriLovesTiki it's sitting on the table with all the rest of the drying Wish List pieces. See below.

Guess What? I have finished sculpting all of the Wish List orders as of today. I will now post photos each day until everyone gets to see what they ordered and how it turned out. I have many pieces that are ready to sand and many that are still drying. I am working every spare moment and will continue until one day all your wishes come true.

Sometimes I make errors. I knew I had an order for an intoxicated Bob. So I went to work and made this guy.

As I was carving intoxicated on the bottom I ran out of room. As I was pondering my mistake I thought of a second one.

Mondo-by-the-bay didn't just want an Intoxicated Bob she ordered one with a bamboo surface. So the next day I made a new one that I hope will meet with her approval.

First I carve with a pointed metal tool and then I go back and widen the carving with this wooden tool.

All the bamboo is in place and water has been used to "sand" it.

Now I'm adding some texture to the stalks.

A simple round tool head is used for the background which is like a peanut mug. It give is a vintage feel.

All done and now Drunken Bamboo Bob is posing for you.

Yep I changed his name to Drunken Bamboo Bob so that it would fit.

Now it's time for the Oscars to begin so I'm outa here. Cheers, Wendy

Hi Friends, timing is everything and I like to keep tiki busy. So in addition to the Wish List I signed on to help out with Tiki Atari's innsmouth-fogcutter mug project on kickstarted.

If you go to the link above you may read the entire story of how and why he designed this mug, how to purchase it and how to acquire rewards.

I am a small part of it. I think he contacted me because of all the topless hula girls that have shown up in my work. Example of what I will be doing for him is that I'll change the girl so that she is topless. Another change will be in how they are glazed.

I am only a part of his reward program and he is paying me the same as if each of these mugs were on the Wish List. I am not a company so he doesn't get any bargains. That is why I agreed to sign on for this project. He is paying me for the mold I had to make to do his special rewards. Thank you Tiki Atari for asking me to be a part of your project.

This will not slow down all the Wish List projects I have in the works because his mold has to dry for a month. During that time I will be working on all the projects I have sculpted.

========================================================

Here is how I made the mold. Since I have posted so many series of making mold on my thread I cut down the number of photos. If I left you with a question please just ask.

Oh shoot it's time to go we have an appointment. I will post the photos this afternoon. Sorry, Wendy

========================================================

Here is how I made the mold. Since I have posted so many series of making mold on my thread I cut down the number of photos. If I left you with a question please just ask.

The mug arrived on Friday February 28th at 2 PM. I opened the box in the Buzzy bedroom and examined it closely. Tiki Atari's work is under the label HORRORS IN CLAY. That is a perfect description of trying to mold this mug. The detail is incredible. It was designed on-line and sculpted/manufactured in plastic by a 3D printer. There was nothing on this mug that was able to be molded in plaster. All of it had undercuts or was too deep for the plaster to be pulled out of so I contacted Jonathan and told him what I would need to do. He said go for it.

On Saturday I began to add clay behind each part of the 3D parts either to eliminate the undercuts or bring it up so that it wasn't too deep. This shows how it looked after my clay additions dried. I then drew lines to show where each mold piece would be made.

On Sunday we got started at 6 am so that we could make the mold in one day. First I found a bottom board the right length. It was a bit wide but at the early hour we couldn't wake our neighbors with a rip saw so it had to be fine.

The lettering on the bottom was just right without any clay. To protect it from filling up I covered with letters with tape.

I added a rounded piece of clay to the top and to the bottom of the mug. One will be the opening for pouring the mold the other will be removed and filled with plaster as a mold piece. I'll show that at the end.

I saturated the mug with mold soap. I hoped this would prevent the clay I was about to add from pulling off the clay on the mug.
It did work.

I began to build up the clay on both sides to the lines for the first piece.

Once I had covered everything but the part of the mug for the first piece I added dents/locks with my finger.

We placed the box and added snakes to prevent leaks.

We mixed (always wear a face mask) and added the plaster. I patted the mug to remove air bubbles. This also shows how thick to mix the plaster. It should look like buttermilk on your hand.

Once the first piece was hard and warm we removed the box and I scrapped off the sharp edges.

I removed the clay from the sides.

I then built a wall of clay between the two sides and then we put the box on and snaked it. I did three layers of mold soap, letting is sink into the plaster each time before I blotted it off.

We poured two sides at once and before the plaster was too hard I carved in the locks.

Mold soap three times again.

I then removed the clay wall. Scrapped the sharp edges and did 3 layers of mold soap inside the gap. This piece would be very fragile if only it was poured.

So in addition to pouring where the wall had been we also poured a top slab. The slab will protect it.

We removed the box put on straps and turned the mold so the bottom was up. I dug out the clay.

I removed the protective tape

and after three preparations with the mold soap we poured the last piece.

I used my favorite kitchen tool to separate the mold pieces for the first time.

You can see that some of the undercut clay was pulled off by the plaster. It will dry and be brushed off.

I only missed one undercut and a 3 x 3 mm piece of plaster was pulled off. That area will just have extra clay and I will carve it down to match the mug.

We moved all the pieces to the kiln shed. As soon as I've sanded the Wish List projects and start to bisque fire them the heat from the kiln will help the fan to dry out this mold.

Dan's a sweetheart. He let me finish sculpting the last Wish List project while he cleaned up the entire mess. He even dressed up for all of you.

I couldn't begin to do this work without Dan. Thank you darling. Wendy

TikiWahini your Bob Fink has gone to Disneyland.

First off thank you for your artistic renderings of what you wanted your mug to look like were excellent. I did my best to copy them but there have been changes. Some I didn't notice until today. Example the E-Ticket is leaning the opposite direction.
Some things I couldn't do such as add the thumbs, they are hiding behind the ticket.

So here are the steps I took during five days to make your Bob.

As you all can see from these photos TikiWahini is an artist. She did these excellent drawings of the mug she wanted made.

When Bullet/kingstiedye heard I was going to make a Rat Fink he brought over some models.

I started to work on Bob Fink and NY Yankee Bob's hats on the same day. I started by casting two Christmas Ornaments as bases and then built them up from there.

I started from the bottom up. First the tail

and then the Bob Fink initials.

With the initials in place

I started on the adorable face. I used to carve Rat Finks into bars of soap when I was in the 6th grade.

I made the eyelids and

then the eyeballs.

Clay is very sticky and it's hard to make small things stick and at the same time let go of fingers and tools. So I start with a bar of teeth and then one by one press between then and then use a brush to smooth and close the gaps.

Now I leave this area and

move back to work on the tail.

The front is mostly done. I had not yet noticed that the tongue was too short.

Now for the E-ticket being held behind his back.

As I centered the hands I found the tail was not in the correct place so I chopped it off and moved it.

Now it was time to work on the Mickey Mouse hat.

I make keys and locks so that the pieces fit together rather than are just stuck on.

hang10tiki that is so adorable I just want to kiss those tiny ears. Thank you so much. Dan enjoyed that a lot.

lunavideogames what a good memory you have for Dan's food habits. We are continuing tradition to see how many free deserts we can rustle up. But not all on the same day.

Harris Ranch. Dan stole this pose from Tiki Hula.

We are going to the Doug Horne, little lost tiki and Big Toes art show tonight with Tiki Hula, Woo Hoo Wahine and Soccer Tiki.
I'll take lots of photos at this event. Then tomorrow we are going to the Don the Beachcomber's Marketplace.

==========================================================================
So here's the Wish List #4 update.

Tiki Hula's ALL DEAD shrunken head bowl is all dry so I carved the trough into the tassel. This is where the run will flow causing a fire flow.

Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/251/531a533d.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=4714eb8a12e553807cfe47ed52303f6e

==========================================================================

Next up I started a bowl for Tavaru Tiki and then through an error where I didn't update his email address I lost contact with him and ended up working this bowl up for Dan.

It was to be a Frankoma War God Goblet with two Place of Refuge tikis on the back. Here's how far I got before I stopped and let it dry. That left it a total Frankoma Goblet because those are Joniece Franks tiki salt and peppers too. If you go to page 1 you will find the incredible story of these guys.

The Hefty bags are still keeping my casts from drying out. I choose a bowl

and then added clay until the bowl was rounded inside.

I cut a hole in the head of the War God so that later I can place the bowl there without trapping the dreaded air bubbles.

I sliced off a portion of the little tiki and then

covered the edges with sticky clay and

I smoothed the connection around the tiki.

We had a great trip and we are already back to work with a couple of molds poured. I'll be back to posting Wish List #4 projects tomorrow.

Thank you all for the visits and fun here and in Southern California. Dan had a birthday to remember, cheers, Wendy

Sorry I had not checked this thread in a while.

I wish I could have wished you a happy birthday in person Dan, so please accept a belated birthday today.

It was so good to see you both on Saturday at the Marketplace. Have a safe trip home.

I thought I'd finished the Wish List but I re-connected with Tavarua so I started on his order which is a Kings Goblet with the Place of Refuge tikis on the back.

Here's how far along I am.

I cast three Frankoma tikis and connected them together.

Air bubbles are a constant worry.

I just started to bury the Frankoma salt and pepper shakers with sticky clay.

A little at a time to

try to make them close to the actual tikis.

So far they have no teeth but

this one doesn't seem to care.

I had put a hole in the head of the war god and now I added the bowl with sticky clay.

After a day of adding sticky clay a little at a time I put it into a plastic bag and let it rest overnight
to equalize the amount of water in all the different parts. This helps prevent it from cracking.

I recently finished this for Mondo-by-the-bay. It's a fish style Bumatay bowl.

Sticky clay on the back of each fish.

one until all three are on the bowl.

Then the attachment areas are cleaned up and made sharp.

Then I added the sea waves

and sanded them with water.

Now it's ready to dry.

For Kele aka WaikikienMoeKele I finished off the hand, lips and eyes of her Hello Kitty sculpt.
