Good Morning it seems like yesterday I said TGIF and here it is again. dartharnie where are you? littlegiles I get to open that kiln today. It's always scary enough and with severed heads in there, well I'm just saying... GROG a while back I got permission from MP to make a Suffering Bob (not square) and he said it was OK, that's now in the hang10tiki collection. I wouldn't mind at all if you made some wood textured Bob's. We all copy vintage mugs and if you use this texture then I'll be flattered. Show it here when you do it. You just need to make 1000 shots and S & P's. That will fill your kiln! (GROG glad GROG make Dan laugh. You two have fun.) and me too. Thank you for a very fun month. hang10tiki ( Lookin sweet ) are you talking about Dan? Thank you too for a very fun photo-shopped month. tigertail777 I noticed that too and sent the page off to Roge. He could cause a thrill if he went into a restaurant with those posters. Wow, thank you everyone for all the comments and questions. I enjoyed them all. I set up the table for a visitor. Progress Report: The last of the heads have been glazed when I unload the kiln today these will go in along with the grand kid mugs. I cast a few necklaces. Here I've cut away all the excess clay around the creatures. They have a lot of clay that needs to be removed. I use a melon ball-er to scoop it out. Lots of kitchen tools are good to use. I added holes for the chord and then autographed them. Then I carved detail that was lost during handling. There so many projects that I can work on now that the heads are done my head is spinning. Hummm could I make a mug with a spinning head? Something to think about. Thanks for being here, Wendy |

WaikikianMoeKele I better finish these other projects first. hang10tiki Hummmmm. littlegiles check out your kitchen, you may have all you need to start on some clay. It's so much fun. Progress Report: Firing is complete on these. A few had glaze separate in the mouth so I'll fix and fire them. MP's black "sheep" head in the middle. We need to box and notify buyers. Soon. Sacramento Crawl mug. Next up were the eyes.
It more fun to carve this tiki than to add clay. That's how the eyes are being done. It's all carving. Thanks for the visit, Wendy |

GROG more than a quart for sure! VampiressRN it is. He needs to be impressive for our group. Badd Tiki that's a photo of Roge the chunk lamp inventor. The Blue Kahuna excellent. Big Kahuna look at that the two Kahuna's together. What are the chances of that? hang10tiki you and GROG are right. LoriLovesTiki he is cute to me too. Progress Report Dan put together all the boxes for shipping the Severed Heads. I have to go over each one to see if some need touch ups and re-glazing. I'll contact you if yours is ready later this week. Back to carving the Sacramento Crawl Mug for October 2013. Then I cut off the displaced clay with the label remover. Looks pretty smooth. Then more carving. Done with those. One more line finished. Done for now. I hope you are having a sunny day. Cheers, Wendy [ Edited by: danlovestikis 2013-04-28 06:28 ] |

Thanks for the update Wendy, even the burlesque picture of Dan. HAHA So, do the little foam packing peanuts stay on him because of static or do you have to glue each one individually? Just curious. :) Love the pics of you carving on the new mug. I guess because I have never worked with clay I never realized just how hard it is to carve. Love watching it progress. I know all my soil here in SC is really hard red clay and trying to dig a hole takes acts of congress and machinery. Can't wait to see more! Dale |

Kele you have inspired the men to photoshop. MadDogMike you are such a sweet guy. I'm having fun doing this tiki. GROG I'm whispering the answer right now! Professor G and his birthday suit. hang10tiki thank you. hang10tiki love it, love him, you too. Dan laughed so much you'd think there were 22 of him. littlegiles clinging by static electricity. Frankoma Pottery used the red clay of Sapulpa OK. Hale Tiki Dan said he resembles that remark. GROG how can I thank you? That picture made Dan very happy. I think we'll have to print yours and hang10tikis latest two and hang them in the man cave. Progress Report. We left yesterday morning for an over night trip. We just got home and I'll not post photos until tomorrow morning. Thank you everyone. It's always great to come home and have my life (and Dan's) touched by each of you who writes and looks. I'm never going to have a photo of Dan as good as those. We took two days off and went to Capitola, Santa Cruz and San Jose. At the Beach at Capitola. Then we took off for Santa Cruz and went to Happy Hour at Hula's. Next we drove to the beach to watch the surfers. Back on main street we went to Mr. Goodies and checked out the tikis for sale. Monday we left and went to San Jose to the Rosicrucian Center. It was closed but we walked the grounds. Dan figured out the guy wanted tiki mugs but Dan showed him he didn't have any. We stopped in Livermore and at the Blue Door I found a home-made apron. Progress Report: While Dan carried in our suitcases I unloaded the kiln. More heads out of the oven. One spec of dust and the glaze crawls away from it. Here in on the chin I went over each head and decided that each one could benefit from a touch up. So I'm going to glaze each one in some spot or another and fire them once more before we use those boxes. Our home always looks like a tiki factory. So one more week before we are ready to start shipping these out. Nothing is easy but its all worth the work to get it right. Cheers, Wendy |

Thanks for sharing your trip pics. I really like the pattern of that apron. I love Ancient Egyptian stuff about as much as I love Poly pop, those buildings are fantastic! I wonder if they are remnants from a worlds fair or expo? Seem pretty intricate and expensive just for a society to have built. Look at all those severed heads! Better not let the cops see all that evidence. |

LoriLovesTiki we actually watch too much TV in the evenings. We thought that Monday's episode of Hawaii 5-0 was the best one they have ever done. Wo Fat is toast. Philot thank you, the glaze colors match the original I just put them on less messy. Hale Tiki I wish I knew what that meant, you young people have a whole different vocabulary. hang10tiki I'm so happy to take you all along with us. You all make everything fun. lunavideogames love the photoshop thank you. I'm very happy it was one of my mugs. This is a wonderful museum with mummies and a tomb to tour. We were sad to have it be closed when we got there. It's well worth a visit. hang10tiki, GROG and luavideogames you really spice up the show. WaikikianMoeKele the colors were a weird choice for a tiki bar but they make the heads really pop. I'm glad we never watched Dexter or they might gross me out. Professor G if I had more employees but Dan's as good as 2 or 3. tigertail777 I believe this is one of their headquarters. Benjamin Franklin belonged to this society. The museum is outstanding. We bought many of our Egyptian decorations for our bedroom in their gift shop. They give workshops and astronomy shows too. TikiAno a dream come true for Dan. We once surfed in San Diego with my cousin. I got stung by a jelly fish but we had a fun time and did catch a few waves. Dan loves both your photos. Progress Report: I got out all the glazes it takes for the heads and made a pallet. I did more than the glaze skips on each head. I decided to make them even better. On our trip Dan found one tiki mug. It was only $7 and it was from Trader Vic's. This mug has a lot of chips on it but over all they did a horrible job on them. The glazes were full of popped bubbles and the tiki is rough. But maybe that adds character. I've always wanted to see if I could re-glaze a damaged vintage mug. So I picked out the colors. I had Dan sand all the chips. I painted the glaze on, 3 layers. The heads and mug were put in the sun to dry. Bottom shelf of the kiln. I loaded the top shelf with the vintage mug far away from my good heads. I worry that it could come apart and I didn't want pieces to stick to my projects. The kiln will open on Thursday. I won't re-glaze more heads until I see how these turned out. Meanwhile I'll work on the I counted 9 fingers on the wooden tiki so that's what the mug has here. Thank you for the visit, Wendy |

Wendy, look forward to seeing more- and I'm (also) very curious what happens to the re-glazed production mug. Jon, I was about to mention Dan grabbing 5, I know there's not a lot of surf where you are. Maybe a big surf outing during Oasis this year? (Though that is prime stingray season down here). I can bring down a bunch of boards. |

hang10tiki Dan likes the new look. I think its time we add exercise to our daytime activities. TikiAno I'll open the kiln today. I hope I didn't destroy the mug. Once we hit Oasis we just stay in place so we don't miss anything. Surfboards would kill us. But thanks for the offer you young stud. Robb Hamel I spend a lot of time trying to make each piece a keeper. Your work shows that same dedication. I was on your thread this morning just marveling at your expertise. I love your work. Thank you everyone for the visits. Progress Report: A big box arrived from Gecko'z South Sea Arts. Nope, no Gecko tikis it just held some of my things. I had him cast two of my Missionary's Downfall bowls. They have a 50% cracking rate in the kiln and I need to make one for Psycho Tiki D. He already has the woman but has been waiting for 2 years for the bowl. He had one of the Missionary Downfall woman molds that he could part with so I bought that too. Since I can alter the woman I want to keep a crisp mold and my other one is getting old. The Sacramento Crawl Mug I started on the headdress. Each section is carved like a gemstone. Again I love to use my label scraper. I added clay to build up the top of the head. Smoothed out the shape is starting to show. When a sculpt is going to be molded I have to watch for undercuts which will break the mold. So here I added a small amount of clay at the base of the hands. Now there is a slope and the mold will pull off. Now its time to get busy. Cheers, Wendy |
