Dan looks too young without his moustache.

Tiki Central:

LoriLovesTiki I'm lucky he shared it with me.

tigertail777 I thought it was GROG in the spoon!

hang10tiki his favorite book too.

GROG he thinks he looked better in your photo and wants to grow it back. That black velvet keeps him in the garage.

hang10tiki yummy.

I caught Dan checking out his stash of tikis above the refrigerator. He has invaded the kitchen in more than one cupboard and I don't even consider this a tiki room.

Progress Report:

More glaze popped off of Mr. Pac Man so I've decided to just paint him with enamel and give him as a gift to Atomic Chick. I just can't spend all these hours re-doing this mug. Maybe one day I'll start from scratch. But for now my goal is to make him look presentable.

This first load of Severed Heads out of the kiln was a test load of the spray painter working. To get the glaze to come out I had to add a small amount of water. This thinned the glaze.

Each of the heads were examined and I thought they looked anemic. We compared them to the original head and found that they were almost identical. The difference is that these are so much larger that you see more of the skin. Dan said they needed more blood running out of the top too.

So I re-painted the skin, the black smudges, the hair and the added far more blood. They go into the kiln today.

It took an entire day to re-paint the 8 heads but it should be worth it. I want them to be right.

By Tuesday I'll be packing them up for the International Market Place at Don the Beachcomber's.

Happy Easter from Dan and Wendy

What Tiki bar is that mug from?

Grogs home bar?

HT

I love the route this thread is taking.

I should post photos of my own funny mustaches.....on Dan.

HT

Presenting: Dan Manchu

So this is now the official thread of awesome tiki mug creations, severed head armies and Dan's mustache? LOVE IT!!

Anyone else remember that game as a kid where you used a magnet and pulled the little fibers around and added hair to the guys face. I'm sure that is a horrible description, but that is what all the Dan Mustache pics remind me of.

Keep up the great work Wendy. Nobody paints a severed head like you do. LOL Really, that is a compliment. :)

Dale

PS: WOOHOO!!! I flipped it over to page 200. Congrats Wendy!!! We like you, we really like you!!

200 pages...........

Party time

GROG he looks good that way.

hang10tiki that mug is from Dan's Tiki Lounge out in the garage. It's for drinks that must be sipped.

Hale Tiki Dan is fair game go for it/him. I yell Dan you've been photo-shopped and he comes running in to see. I love hearing him laugh.

Presenting: Dan Manchu 1997 when I met him and fell in love.

littlegiles I loved that toy. My mom kept one in the car for long trips. Thank you a whole bunch of times. When I was in high school everyone said I looked like Sally Fields. Now I have the comment she was looking for at the Oscars. You made my day.

Atomic Chick I'm so sorry I gave up and painted your mug in enamel. But guess what, he's free and I'll bring him to you at Caliente. He's the mug that fought to be himself, a mess, and won.

Tiki Ano yesterday was cool and overcast. A perfect time for hot chocolate. Dan made me a cup from your mix. Rich, creamy and yummy. Thank you again.

Progress Report Wish List #3
I needed something special for page 200 so it was time to work on 19TikiChef62's pot. I hope you all like it. I love painting with enamel.

Once 19TikiChef62 says this is ok then I'll do a band around the pot and all the tattoos he's asked for on the ladies.

In the future I need to make art for another 200 pages, wish me luck.
Thank each and every one of you for the posts that are fun and inspiring.
Please say hi when you see us at events. Cheers, Wendy

at this weeks thread Title (Wendy Cevola 4/1/13 I'm not kidding the ladies need support bras.)
keep it up Wendy! see you guys this weekend!

HT

I can't believe Dan had a Fu Manchu when you first met him!

I'd love to see a Dan facial hair retrospective on his next big birthday!

I'm working on lamps, so I couldn't waste that much time, but I threw together another quick photoshop. Which is a TERRIBLE job, considering I'm a photographer, but what are you going to do.

T

Wendy, glad you both enjoyed the Hot Chocolate. You're a severed head-making machine! The last set of photos made me see the potential for a Gene Simmons severed head potential- this is in no way made to offend the Ren Clark original....

Congratulations on reaching 200 pages!

The Dan & Wendy show is very compelling. It has it all - fantastic ceramics, severed heads, Photoshopped goodness and now fumanchu mustaches!

Always a treat.

:)

God - don't ever give these jokers a picture of yourself to work on!!

Wendy, took me a while to catch up on 5 days of the Wendy & Dan Show
Jon, that mug is from the failed Hilo Hooters Tiki Bar. Not enough business and they went "tits up" so to speak.
Wendy, I hope you substract GROG's double posts from your post count :D In my only ceramics class we had a ball mill for mixing glazes.

The plastic jar of glaze sits on the rotating bottom rods and turns slowly. For milling glaze you put fired ceramic balls in the jar and they grind the bits of glaze between them. To just re-suspend the glaze you probably wouldn't need the balls. If you keep your eye on e-Bay and Craig's List you might find one cheap. I drop a couple of marbles in each bottle of my glazes in hopes that it will help mix when I shake the bottles. Don't know if it helps because I still have problems with glaze skips occasionally too :(

I absolutely love the new Fu-Man-Dan-O line

I LOVE the new Fu Danchu Line of mugs.

I stumbled across this picture of Wendy accepting her 200th post award. Wendy you look amazing. You do look a lot like Sally Field. :)

Dale

Congrats on 200 pages, Dan's new stash, and the top-heavy babes!!! All honorable accomplishments in the scheme of Tiki thangs!!!

HT

Hey guys. For glaze, if you're using a roller like the one mike posted, you're going to probably find one a LOT cheaper if you pick up some old film equipment. A lot of companies made rotating bases for drums used to develop medium and large format film. I had access to about 40 of them that aren't used, but I no longer work there. Had I thought of that, I might have been able to grab some, or repair some broken ones. Look for ones from Beseler. You can pick them up CHEAP.

A message from Wendy and Dan

Thank you for throwing us a celebratory party for the 200 pages. We feel as if we were all together enjoying a good time filled with hugs and laughter. We appreciate you so much, even those who look but don't post are important. Dan and I are joyful when we are photo-shopped. We share the fixed up photos with non-tiki friends and family. We are honored that you would spend your time doing something that makes us giggle with delight. We feel the same way about helpful hints and comments on our art.

I'M SHOUTING NOW....YOU ARE ALL SPECIAL AND SO COOL, TIKI PEOPLE ROCK, THANK YOU SO MUCH

Late to the party as usual, but happy 200! I think dan does look good in a Fu Danchu! Now he just needs one of those satiny Chinese button shirts like the waiters in Chinese restaurants used to wear (I am sure there is a proper name for them, but I don't know what it is). I am kind of surprised you have not worked a "Bob' into these severed heads somehow.

Your very welcome Wendy & Dan!
I will send you a bill in the mail :P

U 2 rock the house

Jon

tigertail777 thank you for joining in. Dan used to have one of those shirts and the silk jackets too. His favorite attire was angle shirts. You never know where Bob will show up.

Atomic Tiki Punk no need to mail it I'll see you in a few days!

hang10tiki I'm blushing.

Progress Report

Later today I'll open the kiln and I'll be back another time to post photos before we head off to Marketplace.

When we return the first project up will be to finish off the Severed Heads and get them in the mail. All of these must be spray painted again.

I've started on the Sacramento Crawl mug for October 2013. Molds take a long time to dry so I'm starting now.

I found that the sculpt of the Zombie Torch would work for the Coral Reef crawl mug. So off with his head.

I said goodbye to the lady as well.

Soon I had the clay shavings piling up.

I began to smooth the outside. Next I'll begin to build the tiki. It's just good to get it started.

Now we have to get the house ready for our sitter. Dan won't leave without a tiki guard.

Thanks for the terrific party yesterday, Dan and I are still recovering from all the fun, Wendy

I have to admit the pile of clay you cut off the torch mug made me sad for some reason but I'm excited to see this progress.

Have a safe trip and have a great time!!

Dale

NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Damned tiki central double-post!

[ Edited by: grog 2013-04-03 13:56 ]

That is funny! Dan needs a tiki guardian to protect his mugs? I wonder if I do too? You don't think cats are good enough? :)

I am excited to see you guys! And I am excited to finally have some Wendy mugs in my collection! Emily has been teasing me that she has a Wendy mug and I don't for quite some time now. Emily still uses her Bobbie mug all of the time. We had a bunch of zombies on Sunday, and she was using your mug the whole day.

Congrats on 200 great pages! Keep up the good work!

Have a safe drive and we will see you soon!

S

See you and Dan down at Don's my friend!

SO wish that I could be with you all this weekend. But I'm SO enjoying the Dan & Wendy Show the last few days (been working a bunch of overtime & took a few days to catch up). LOVE the updates! LOVE the Dan-staches! LOVE the Wendy & Dan show! LOVE the big boobies! (& so glad that I have some of my own to ogle!!!!
Really tired, time to trundle off to bed.
~kele

littlegiles I was sad to destroy the Zombie Torch sculpt but it was time. Thank you, we will stick to the speed limit and take lots of breaks. It takes us 8 hours to drive there and it is so worth it.

Atomic Tiki Punk yessssssssssssss you have to hug us hello on Saturday.

GROG I love to work the clay too.

GROG I love to work the clay 2.

lunavideogames Fluffy spends all her time sleeping. She's really not into the collection.
We are excited too. We'll do our best to arrive without incident. We are excited to see you and all our tiki buddies.

Sandra Dee we are looking forward to bumping into you during the tiki hunt.

WaikikianMoeKele I wish you a fast week and a weekend off to rest. I'm so glad that you enjoy the show because we love to
put it on. This is all a lot of fun.

Progress Report

We are packed. Today I boxed up every mug I needed to bring to:
Dawee Tiki 3
Moai Mike 2
Atomic Chick 2
SMBacon 2
lunarvideogames 2
Chippy 1

Very cool.

Here are the heads being boxed up along with other mugs. Painting them a second time and re-firing paid off the colors are richer and I'm happy to put out a good work of art.

But first I took a group photo with five of them.

Dan hasn't gotten the shirt to match yet but he's wearing his favorite yard work hat.

Our lawn was plugged and Dan asked if he could earn some tiki money raking them up.

He said count them and give me a dollar for each one. I don't think so!

I'll be checking in here on our journey but I won't be able to post photos until we return. See some of you soon, I'd love to meet more of you, come up and say hi.

Now its time to sleep so we can leave really early. Cheers, Wendy

Whoa! Jon went Photoshop crazy!

Haha that's awesome!

The severed heads are looking great!

hang10tiki I LOVE YOU! Wendy

:D

P

oh my.
Wendy, I hope you haven't finished the severed head Dan's going to claim.
That would be too good to pass up.

E

The severed heads look amazing! (And I'm super-envious of the folks getting theirs at Don's this weekend!)
Safe travels!
e.

hang10tiki I could look at that photo of Dan all day long. Maybe someone will say hi to us because of it. They can say they found him!

ebTiki glad you like them. I'll start on yours when we are back home. I barely finished enough.

Philot Dan took the bug eyed version and the 1st AP that verified I'd found the perfect glazes.

We have arrived in Long Beach. We have already spoken with HB Tiki. We are now heading out to Trader Sam's at Downtown Disneyland. All this after being on the road from 6 AM until 3 PM. Even though we have done this trip several times and used a GPS we still made mistakes and did freeway u-turns. I hope traffic will not be too bad and that we will be there soon.

Big hug for you all, Wendy and Dan

[ Edited by: danlovestikis 2013-04-04 15:44 ]

Cool, making a vacation out of it. Have fun!

GPS and lack of signage on California streets and highways always mess me up too. Don't feel bad. :)

Awwwww Man, I'm so jealous. I want to go to Trader Sams too. I hope you have a great time. Pick up lots of goodies for the living room tiki expansion. Construction should be able to start in a couple weeks. WOOHOOO!!

:) Be careful.
