I finally had a day off so I decided to take some pictures and play with PowerPoint. These pictures represent the slim pickings of about 6 months of thrift store stalking in West-Central Wisconsin. My best find was the Tiki Mask from Gurnee Mills Mall, IL. Come Spring it will be Garage Sale season. Whoo-hoo!

Everyone has had Some great finds this weekend (and longer).

I only found one new one but I thought that I would share the nice new Toby Mug I won on eBay.

Bottoms of mugs:

The skull is unmarked but it looks a lot like the Stockton Islander mentioned in a previous thread. It's small but it has the hollow space behind the eye's & nose.

I live in Eau Claire, and I definitely feel your pain at the lack of Tiki! Apparently, everybody around here went on vacation in Germany and brought back beer steins.

 The PMP shakers were a gift from my husband for Christmas, next is a mug won on e-bay, thanks fil! The Hawaiian Village Vancouver(phone number on back) Leilani, well, I can't remember where i got it. Probably from a local thrift store. The green Moonraker bucket I found last week, and the sea world coffee mug I got on Friday for 49 cents.

The bamboo I picked up on the weekend to use for my desk project, it came with the characters written on it. I stained it a little and removed a strip from the back so that I can use it to hide wires. Watch for more desk project pictures!

Treasurecraft ashtray (missing a metal "retainer" that holds the cigarette)

A pair of homemade "sun god" mugs - the kind with the big bulbous noses

Pineapple salt & pepper pair

Coco Joe, no number, identified on the tag only as "Polynesian God"

Coco Joe HW30 ("Hapawood")

A mug my niece got me from the Coconut Motel in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. Clearly it's from an Orchids of Hawaii mold, but the bottom is marked "DW114, Made in China")

The Hele Mai, Ai (Come Eat) Cookbook, a fundraiser for a Maui prep school.

My Aunt was helping a neighbor clean out her home and found something interesting.

A Banjo Uke from the 1930's. Apparently this neighbors father lived in Hawaii from 1920-1940 and had built a collection of old hawaiiana.

It appears to be made of KOA (solid hunks of it).

I stripped and refinished it and buffed out the oxidized metal and screws. I need to get some strings and make some new pegs.

I dont think it was a serious instrument (I have seen the REAL players banjo ukes) but the wood is beautiful and its great for the wall of the South Pacific Room

I picked up my very first Vintage mug today, you don't see many in Australia or on Ebay Australia (where i got this). I guess it helped that it was listed as "Moai Vase" rather than "Tiki Mug" and the seller would only ship to Australia. Only AU$20 all up. Seems to match the OMC Slender Painted Moai Mug in Ooga Mooga.

I found this one on eBay for a really fair "Buy it Now Price" It looks like a Tepco, but its marked P B-R U.S.A. on the bottom. Anyone know about this one?

Damn you Cool Manchu!!!
What a great find, a TV bowl in the wild. Way to go!

Good on you too Monkeyman... That koa looks beautiful. I love the vintage ukes that have the Hawaiian crest on the headstock.

Aloha,
:tiki:

I had to take a trip to Tucson, and grabbed another Kon Tiki mug. Also picked up a Bali Hai ashtray.

Trader Vic's style salt and pepper shaker from the Mauna Loa (I presume Detroit).

A Tiki mug on eBay Australia....hmmm, must start checking those other eBays! How do you spell Tiki in Korean? Cool mug, one wonders if it started out there at an Australian bar or was taken from another country.

Nice hula girl bowl, one of my fave pieces. I believe the Tepco looking fog cutter was made by "Blue Ridge". Not certain, but I recall another maker of those pieces, and I thought "blue" was part of the name.

The Mauna Loa shakers are not from Detroit's Mauna Loa, they used PNG style drums for shakers. I have a set like yours, and I think they're from a Mauna Loa up north, in Canada. Then again, there's the Mauna Loa down south, in Mexico.

I have no tiki finds, just living vicariously through others.

Thanks for the correction, Midnite. I've searched the existing literature, and haven't been able to find anything about the Mauna Loa in Canada. There is also a Mauna Loa in Spain, and I think there is also some mountain in Hawaii. :)

The TV style S&P are not from the Maona Loa in Madrid - they don't use them. And it would have been LA Maona Loa!

I doubt from the Maona Loa in Mexico City either. I have a creamer from there, and it only says "Maona Loa" and not "The Maona Loa."

So, looking like Canada....

Could be from a Mauna Loa in Canada, as I have found a pair up here recently. But where in Canada? It's a large place.
