Not much today. Don't know what the last one is but it looks like a homedone glaze job.

The last one is a Pony Express Ku, once sold at Partay City as part of a 4-pack.

YES! An elusive mug from Partay City....I am the luckiest girl in the world!

and to think it was only $0.50! What a bargain!

That's a steal. I recently paid 99 cents for one at the Goodwill; twice as much because it was a kolecturz item.

Here's another one from the 4-pack - Kon-Stapatetiki.

Found a couple of mugs today upstate NY...so I guess they are out there. Just takes a lot of hunting. Some issues with one...but the other is primo.

Excellent find Craig!!

Oh yeah, do NOT wash the headhunter mug in the dishwasher and take care washing by hand. You do not want to wash the cold paint off.

here is something I stumbled across last weekend...

anybody know anything about these carvings?
OH and ...

a LATOUR Pineapple cup!

Tongan styled Hawaiian souvenir tikis

They're all over the place. I see maybe one or two a month in the wild priced from $3-40. Most commonly found in between $5-10.

Buzzy Out!

[ Edited by: Bay Park Buzzy 2009-04-28 15:35 ]

Mahalo for the info and the link!
This one is alot heavier than others that I have come across and never really thought to ask .
so the 3.99 that I paid for it was a good investment!

Vintage postcard...

I don't know where to post this... I searched for King's Tropical Inn and found nothing specific... Not Tiki but...

Found a few Westwood shots. Three different "Japan" markings on the bottoms.

Found a Witco Giraffe magazine holder at an antique store for $15, they thought it was ugly and were glad to see it go.... ha ha ha ha ... my first Witco... I am sooo excited

To find a tiki shirt at a thrift shop here among the corn fields is a rare treat. The thrift shops around here are mostly filled with "country accents", Van Halen tapes and maternity wear. So this shirt was a fun find. It's not vintage, it wasn't made in Hawaii, but the colors are bright, it has tiki figures; so for my $2.50, I'm doing the happy dance!

Great colors indeed! You might even have the matching mug for it :) :

Near as I can tell, I have 16 of those mugs to match!

One for each Tiki on the shirt? :)

Couple of postcards...

Trade Winds Motel, US I-75 at Exit 83, Forsyth, GA

The Beachcomber Motel, South Lake Tahoe

Pre-tiki bar in Pico Rivera, CA? Matchbook...

A few thrift finds from last weekend.

White Ginger Blossoms. Honolulu Symphony Orchestra

Kodak Hula Show c. 1956. Water damaged, but when I took out the record...

Clear red vinyl!

I don't have any color vinyl from the fifties...I didn't even know they made it in '56 to be honest.

I also found this cool little hurricane. I'll make this into a flickering candle lamp when I get down to the hardware store.

Weather is not cooperating with the attempt to hunt in the wild...

Today was the Lodi Street Fair and I left early as usual. Nearly turned around to go home because the rain was coming down hard. Saw the usual suspects lurking on tables...Harvey's green Sneaky Tiki mugs at $8.00 a piece, one lone Peanut mug from Trader Dick's, one three faced bucket, unmarked...Second Hand Rose shop had some Harvey's hula girl mugs, one bowl, Trader Dick's smaller surfing girl mugs, etc. Passed on all of them.

I did manage to find a couple of these, I didn't have them yet...

"Karate Punch" bucket mugs, with small red "Made In Japan" stickers on the bottom.

Another copy of "Holiday on those Magic Islands of Hawaii, Willie Alunuai and his Band".

"The Exotic Sounds Of...Arthur Lyman At The Crescendo".

And this little number...

A velvet painting by none other than Mr. Burke Tyree. Check out more pictures of it on the Velvet Paintings thread.

The Tyree set me back a whopping $10.00!

Later,

PTD

We picked up these 3 items at a local flea market last weekend. Paid a total of $30.

Another piece of Witco, a Maori totem and a Tonga war club.

Flea Market?...New York? Are you in NYC?

KK

T

Hey KK we're upstate in the Hudson Valley.. What made you think we were in NYC?

I'm in the Southern Tier and go tiki hunting almost everyday to thrift stores..antique shops...flea markets and never see anything quite that nice. A few mugs....some record albums...but nothing like what you found yet...I will keep hunting...:)

BK

Man, I've been getting skunked, lately, but not today!!!
First up, my only find from the past month, before today. A very nice tea-cup from the Tahiti in Dedham, Mass.

Next, a few surfers. I didn't have the surfer girl mug & both are a bit different.

A couple "usual suspects" although the Fu Manchu is a bit bigger & heavier than the one I already had.

3 Great local mugs.

A nice R70 & a great OMC Pointed-headdress mug. I've been outbid on fleabay for one of the OMC mugs several times. I was happy to fork over 8 bucks for it.

The flea/swap/yardsale season is heating up out here. Hopefully, I'll be having a lot more to post very soon!

Got these this weekend from a Craigslist posting. The seller's parents used to own a Chinese restaurant and she discovered lots of unopened boxes of Orchids of Hawaii mugs in their attic from the 70's and 80's.

L

Good score on all that old restaurant stock Gooneybird and nice amount of finds Big Kahuna. Glad to see the warmer weather is treatin' ya right!

Found quite a few things from over the weekend and today but after 3 pics my camera died. Oh well.

All but the Harvey's, jeweled peanut and Concave OMC moai came from the same Lodi street fair that PTD found his Tyree from. Others a stop at a new thrift I found this morning. Guy had a box of swizzles for only a few dollars but these were the ones I didn't have yet. I also really love that ashtray..or should I say ass-tray  It was only $1 because of the rain.

Liz, every time you say you're gonna take a break from collecting, you score more stuff! You've a knack for finding stuff when you're trying not to!

Thanks but do any of us REALLY ever take a break ? lol

That fair that both myself and PTD went to had the prospects of being pretty awesome but it was really miserable-wet and chilly. It was a good place to get stuff for super cheap however which I guess was a good trade off. Plus I was diggin under dealers tables because almost all the vendors were either covering up or packing up. All in the name of collecting!

Found the "Hawaiian Room" lp from the Hotel Lexington, NY, at a church rummage sale this weekend for 25 cents.

Nice one, Sabu... I can't help but smile when I find a truly seductive album cover among a pile of conservative religious records. I think, "Ah... so we've our little secrets after all!"

Thanks Kate! I uploaded it there as well.

Not bad for $5.00 . First Tiki Bob I have found and I am glad because its one of my favorite mugs. Made my morning.

Tourist tiki/Koa carved Hawaii beer stein/Tiki Bob:

Back of Bob:

CoCo Joe dish I didn't have (even though it seems common on here) and some other Koa carved mug with a chick's face:

It was $1.50 actually  I paid $5 for all the stuff I posted.
It was a good day to go thrifting!

Nice score Liz.I could use a Tiki Bobs also I don't have one in my collection.
You would never find one of those in So Cal.

Life is so UNFAIR! The great stuff some of you find (especially of late: leleliz) makes me sick! I am a victim of my birth I guess-- born where tiki just ain't. My BIG FIND this week : a Teidy Bear Cocktail mug. Sheez! I've tried to convince myself the bear is holding a tiki statue... but it's just a baby bear. I'm thinking of switching to collecting owls.

That's funny, I just found one of the Tiedy Bear mugs too. Almost didn't buy it, but I felt bad using my credit card at the thrift store for just the $1.99 hula girl mug.

Hi Tiki David,

You are now the proud owner of one of a set of Northwest Totem Pole mugs. I think there are three or four more if you want to complete the set.

Here's one of those on ebay right now

If anyone has a picture of what oil lamp should look like please post. I should be able to acquire a new shade though The piece that holds the oil seems to be broken at bottom. Thinking of trying to convert it to support a flicker bulb. We'll see. Thanks

T

Kind of dry around here but did get a few small things from the local flea markets.

First up, I was pretty stoked to get the Frank Schirman piece on the left side. It is one I have not seen locally before and had averted me on Ebay a few times so now I am glad to have one. And only $5!!
The center is a Treasure Craft mug which is not a rare mug but much harder to find here than the smaller handled ones. On the right a black lava King Kam statue by Coco Joe.

The above photo has two lighters in it. I like the brown ceramic one on the left. It is home made and signed on the bottom and dated 1966. The one on the right is quite old as well and is black lava. It is not marked. It came with a gold colored lighter but it should be chrome as the ring in the top of the lighter is chrome as well. Pretty cool pieces.

Happy Hunting!!
