:D :D Well last weekend we celebrated our anniversary on Monday after the Ohana at Lake George.
:o So how fitting that we should come across, not one but two honeymoon bowls? I love these and I'm wondering did they come in different sizes, small medium & large, or just slight variations in the molds?
Great decorations with the fish,

and love the jelly fish & sea weed/flowers

One measures 5 1/2" tall X 6 1/2" wide at the inside rims and the other one
measures 6" tall x 7" at the inside rim.

Now I guess we'll have to find a menu that shows it.. 8)

Garage Sale finds from the last 2 weekends:

Three large glass globe lights (paint insides, wrap in netting, convert to fish-float lamps)
Three actual vintage glass floats
1 Sneaky Tiki mug
4 Warehouse Rum Barrels
1 "Ports of Pleasure" lp by Les Baxter.

I have been on a skunk-a-thon lately.

To make matters a litte more fickled, I sold off some of my excess collectibles (toys, games and the like) at a community garage sale yesterday. For the heck of it, I took some tiki mugs out. Sold only two?? What is wrong the John Q. Public?

All I was able to scare up today was this TV coconut mug...

I did find an amazing military themed velvet though. Will post a picture on the velvet thread.

Later!

From a thrift in Cinci... anyone ever seen the brown vase thing before? It seems Westwood-y in style but I'm not familiar with it. No markings on the bottom.

This week's stuff:

A HIP God of Wisdom:

A couple made in China mugs:

Trader Vic's salt and pepper shakers

Ceramic version of the Polynesian girl head

And finally, a 14" jumbo CocoJoe's Hapawood Aloha Beauty:

It's a way different sculpt than the older lava version that I have:

I like the topless, short skirt version better.

Buzzy Out!

I've have a multi color version of this, it's a bottle and I also have 6 tiny shot mugs that goes with it. I'll try to post a pict.

I also have a multi version of this, it's a miniature Italian liquer bottle - but I can't remember what the drink is called...

Is there anyway to tell if this was used as a drinking vessel or if its just decorative?

It does appear old and its rather heavy but I cant find a marking on it besides it being crazed and dirty :

leleliz,
Just taking a guess,but....
with the 4 stands on the bottom
and the open area upturned as such...
i would venture to say that you scored

  1. a killer bowl for a Zombie
  2. a beautiful flower vase thingy!

SCORE!
don't you love lucky thrift shop days?

are you sure there isn't an F F on the bottom?

for FITZ and FLOYD

L

No David I cant find any markings...and I looked after seeing your post for that marking and there isnt one.

Oh well..i guess I will have to just assume the best :)

Oh thanks for that link Duane...so its seems pretty safe to assume that its "FF" marking was on a sticker.

Awesome!

This is one I found in my own house. I bought this great fish sculpture some time back. I thought it may had been done in Hawaii when I first got it. It is signed but I read the signature wrong when i first tried to look up info on the artist. Today I read it again, and it looks to be by Disney Artist Milt Kahl. Can't find any info on his non-Disney art. Any of you Disney/Tiki fans know? It's great! Pics kind of suck.

I found this at an estate sale last month, is it tiki?
I'm hoping it's PNG.

The nose loop is broken off.

It's 10" tall, and has hand tooling marks on the hollowed out back.

I'd say both PNG and tiki.
(And for those who don't think that PNG is tiki per se, I think they'd agree that just about anything PNG looks GREAT in any tiki bar.)

Nice find! Shame about the nose, but it's still great :)

On second thought, the fact that it's carved and PNG looking makes me like it even more than a traditional PNG [painted] mask. I have few small carved PNG statuettes in the same carving style and I love them.

This week's stuff:

A NIB Clay Art Cookie Jar:

Trader Vic's Coconut mug:

CocoJoe's Hang Loose magnet.

Vintage shell light that actually works:

If any of you recall, a couple weeks back I picked up some new display cases for all my crap. I've been moving, cleaning and arranging them since. Here's how most of it looks now.

The Oceanic tourist art section:

And my new Wall-O-Joe's:

I have to move all the hapawood stuff to the bottom and add one shelf to the center cabinet

Here are a few closeups of some of the shelves:

Since I'm sharing my collections,
I never really showed off my mug collection...
Here it is:

I've been collecting them for about four years now. I only collect and keep mugs that I don't pay for.

Buzzy Out!

Hmm...like you weren't thinking the same thing!

Buzzy - Love your Lava! The collection is enviable and those new shelves showcase it well.

That's a huge collection Buzzy. I'd like to know where the hell you find all that stuff. Whenever I search in the San Diego area, I rarely find anything. You seem to find great things on a weekly basis. I need to start invading your part of the county more. I never find a damn thing here in North County.

Ho Buzzy, that is a serious collection of lava and hapawood!!!! Love it, especially the lava bust of Duke, great piece!
Aloha,
:tiki:

Buzzy your collection is amazing. I remember seeing it a few years back but it wasn't this extensive. I like your display. Hope you get better soon, sorry to hear all the sad news.

Just one little guy I found last week. He looks kinda scared... or maybe he's just cold on this October morning.

Buzzy,

That is one truly amazing Coco Joe's collection and the display cabinets set the whole ensemble off quite well. The wood carvings are crazy sweet as well.

Is there any Coco Joe's you don't have?

BTW~you need a few more mugs!

Holy crap Buzzy ....time to open a museum .

scored a couple of vintage shirts today, both with tikis!

couple lucky trips to the value village

where is "POLYNESIAN IMPORTS" ?

Don't know where these came from... I've found two. They're ceramic, about six and a half inches tall. Think I'll stencil "RUM" on them.

I'm guessing it was in Edmonton, long gone no doubt. I've found two of these wooden tikis from there.

[ Edited by: Sweet Daddy Tiki 2009-10-08 12:44 ]

trio of libbey bamboo mugs for a 1$. all 3 of them have that circle on the back of them as seen on the center mug. im guessing that was the spot that bars would have their name put on right?

Today's finds...

Hapawood Coco Joe's Hawaii tiki.

I know, but it kinda looks tiki.

Pirate grog mug, marked "Imported by Trader Vic's" on the bottom.

Three vintage home movie reels, two from Marineland 1966 and one from Disneyland 1957. Can't wait to see if there is anything tiki on them.

One of my nicer finds lately is the plate commerating the "Kon Tiki" made by Stavangerflint in Norway. Never seen one like this before.

Later,

PTD

PTD,

Great Kon Tiki plate, I really like the looks of that one.

Duane-do you have something to view these with? I wanna see them!!! Some of us were talking about Marineland at VampiressRN's last night at the crawl! Didn't know you had these movies!!!

Maybe you'll do a screening for your friendly Sactown Ohana??

I'm feeling a little envy right now!!!

It was a good day for shirts.

I also got a nice set of shelves and some things to put on them.

I thought the shelves could be a little more tiki, so I picked up some tapa to add to them. Another project. Swell.

Tiki Kate, what is the garment on the left, in green? Is it a shirt? It looks like a 2 piece item. I am asking b/c it looks just like a shirt I just bought. One of those "so ugly that its beautiful" things, I couldnt believe my eyes, and now it looks like there are 2 of them!

It's a shirt.

These two are plaster, about 21 inches tall. Someone wrote "Hawaii" on the back but I'm not convinced they're tiki... old tourist items of some sort though.

Bought these wonderfully hideous tiki stools from a guy on Craigslist last week...They're ugly, but I love 'em.
I don't know anything about them. Anybody ever seen them before?

DAAAAAAMN Gooneybird, I can't tell you anything about the stools but I can say that metalflake upholstery ROCKS!!!
Aloha,
