Been awhile for me. Dog days of summer + a new job, has re-routed my thrift store shopping. This is my haul for July

A few of my goodies (not recent finds but haven't put them up here so ...)

I'm always intrigued by the Maori carvings and hope to have more soon to share here.

Great stuff on this page. I love the fingers on the last photo Alii and the still in the wood block carving.

Yesterday we went garage sailing and had some luck. We found this Coco Joes for a dime and a really good like helmet for 25 cents. The feathers number in the hundreds. We didn't own one so we were happy.

I wish I had brought a camera. The next home invited us in when we mentioned tikis. They had just built a big tiki hut in the back yard and had concrete tikis surrounding their pool. I invited them to join Tiki Central and I hope they do.

A real surprise was their Egyptian dining room. VampiressRn and we both have Egyptian rooms along with our tiki rooms. I guess there's something that makes them fit and maybe its fine art! Wendy

Those are bird claws. Not that many American Tiki carvers use the Manaia motifs, I noticed.

Nuts! I haven't found anything to buy in so long I'm not sure if I can still call myself a collector. Very happy for everyone else though. And that ain't gonna last as the bitterness set in. :wink:

Got these Tahitian pieces from KonaCat a couple of years back, if you've not been to his place here in Kona I highly recommend you look him up when you come to town. Within 3 paces inside his door I was giggling and breathless in disbelief of the size of his collection.
And here's a couple more of my Maori collection, I've steered away from filling my shelves with typical or touristy type pieces and look for more detailed and uniquely crafted artwork.

I've seen pix of huts on Yap that sorta look like this carving. I also have a "storyboard" from Yap that has some markings that are identical to those on the carving. Look at the close-up. It appears that it's a house of porn. Please chime in with your ideas.

Aloha Guys!!! Here is my Tiki find over the weekend. I scored this bitchin Tiki off one of my friends that goes by Captain Scott. He collects vintage surf stuff and picks up the occasional Tiki from time to time. He told me he found it at a swap meet. The guy that sold it to him said it belonged to his father. So this could very well be a mid-century find. There are no marks or nothing indicating its maker. It just has Tonga carved on the front base of the Tiki. This is wood. Not a mold and is heavy which indicates to me I found something good. I was thinking maybe his father carved this but that was not asked by Scott. Maybe some of you TCers know what I have or maybe you have seen one like it? In any case. I am excited to find this Tiki and will make a great edition to my Tiki room.

Nice finds Hang10. That Ku from the Aku Aku is awesome. My wife and I like Treasure Craft and that is a nice piece that you found. My question is about that T V ashtray. How do you tell vintage from repo? I have seen some in antique stores and would gladly pay the asking price cept I'm not sure of it's "pedigree" and I just hate getting fooled.

That is a really nice Ku Forgotten. I would love to have one like it. Not to rain on your parade but imho it's an airport Tiki (souvenir). That being said, I would be proud to have it in my collection.

Hi, I got this guy last week. I like his coloring and markings, although he does have an unfortunate, but hard to see, crack in his head.

Found this handled mug recently. It resembles a Westwood mug as well as a hobbyist and a GOTIKI mug pictured several years ago. However it appears to be a production mug and has a partial label on the bottom showing a winged horse. Can anyone help identify it? Mahalo.

That's interesting.

I would say it is a hobbyist mug based on the ears and the repeated pattern at the top and bottom. Perhaps the sticker was from the studio that had the kiln. I did some research for the logo but came up empty. Lots of logs with Pegasus in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Still a fun mug for the collection. :)

Looks like a made in Japan label, on the lower part of the label you can see a small n!

A planter for my yard, cast in concrete with a mold taken from an actual lava flow.

This is over 2' tall and very heavy!!

Did Mobil ever give away Tiki mugs with a full tank of gas? And if so, can they please start that promotion again? :)

Alii Tiki, Gecko made a bowl for us using that technique. It's very cool.

We went to an estate sale yesterday and here's what we found.

The tourist tiki and the right is super dense and heavy so we think it is old.

It also curves out in the back so it stands up without falling over.

We thought these have a similar look but the mask may not be tiki.
