Finds from the past month

Two g*d staffs. I poached these at a thrift store outside my normal hunting grounds.

Japanese drinking mugs

A set of six monkeypod mai tai mugs. "Mai tai" on the front and a pineapple and bottle on the sides.

Went thrifting yesterday for the first time in weeks. Had to prove to my Mom (who is here visiting) that tiki rains down on me when I am out about and no matter what I will find something. She doubted the skills.

1st stop yielded a small OMC bowl and tiki keychain. Not major finds but proved my point. Bonus...it was discount day for old people so my mom hooked me up with 20% off :) This stuff was like $0.80:

scored a carved Head Hunter today;

Found this after 10 years of casual (internet and ebay free) searching. They had six from the cultured pearl, but this one was screaming my name. Never thought I'd see one in person let alone own one ha. The bamboo mug in the back is from trade winds (Tulsa)

Not rare, but a classic nonetheless:

This book brings back memories of coming across the site of Jean Guiart's house when I first visited Nouméa in the 1980s. It was burnt down by an angry mob during the troubles there - in 1985, if my memory serves me well. Jean Guiart and his wife were not well-liked by local conservatives for their pro-Kanak sympathies. It was sad walking around the largely empty site (there was nothing left but the foundations), thinking about all the books, manuscripts, relics and works of art that must have gone up in smoke along with the house.

That 'little KU' is a United Air Lines fountain.

Took Mom to Antiques By The Bay in Alameda today....was not as tiki filled as usual but found this all for a total of $12 from various vendors. Nothing amazing but well within my small budget

The guy sellin the paper placemats gave me a huge earfull on tiki mugs and how they are so collectible now. Lordy!

That's interesting. I didn't know UA had fountains as part of their marketing material. Is this something that would have been used at a travel agency?

Here's our little stash we found today:

The Islander mug in front is taller and thinner than usual, and it's got nice light color. I like the Islander coconut mugs too!

The Peanut mug to the left is spectacular! It's the cleanest I've ever seen, looks brand new. Picked up a couple of menus too...

picked this guy up at our local Farmers Market this week. Looks like a souvenir one to me, and has the blue and gold japan sticker on the bottom. I have never seen him before in any book and even searched ooga-mooga high and low and still haven't seen another. Does anyone else know any more about him??

Awesome finds , I cannot fathom finding tiki mugs in the wild in Australia, Very very rare to happen, I have found 1 in 6/7 years.. Any way i find lots of different Tiki Type stuff, Heres this weekends haul :)
a couple of good sized tikis Tongan one on right is marked 1970, Would i be right in calling the one on the right a " pineapple head" ???

9 records 8 were a buck each the 9th was 50 cents.

and a good sized very old float approx 275mm diameter.

Binders, lots of binders. Can store everything from matchbooks up to 8.5 X 11 paper items. They keep things somewhat organized.

Good tip, DC, one used to be able to find all kinds of page inserts in office supply places, but no more!

Great shtuff, PTD, that Matson Line brochure looks more like a "How to dress stylishly on a Pacific Cruise"-guide than anything about the places they went to! :)
