Every answer only leads to more questions:
How many more missing links do I need before I can refer to them as the "chain?" :lol:
What are missing links called when they are found?
For it to be "missing", I assume at one time it was not missing. Therefore, what do you call a missing link that you do not have any knowledge of its prior existence-a theoretical link?
Now I'm looking for the Schirman/schirman version of this Polyart/schirman version. But, if schirman never made one after his association with polyart, then I'm looking for a theoretical link, not a missing link, and those links are harder to find.
Isn't there some sort of expert on this out there?

My wife got me these for Christmas this year from flatearthtrading.com
They we're like $60 for both, good quality, really vibrant colors. I love them, can't wait to get the lounge finished so I can put them up!

Hmmm...if they just would have left them in dark, monochrome wood, they might have been good "bad taste", I kinda like the flying V shape. But with that light wood, multi-colors and those white dots, they are simply bad bad taste...and easily identifiable as Asian import stuff....they kinda remind of the late late Witco blonde wood phase. I would give them a good coat of non-glossy dark brown!

See, no freak out, just cold, hard, unflinching art analysis. :D

What I like most about the guitars is that they "are" crap! :) We're just starting off with collecting, maybe I'm a little over-exited? :)

At an enormous early bird sale I found this 16 pound lawn tiki at the first booth and was elated until after 3 hours of dragging him down the parking lots I was crying uncle. Next time I bring the Uhaul.

It measures 14 inches and I have a similar green ceramic one that is much lighter.

I'm not out there hunting for the tiki goods much anymore because I just don't have that much room for any new stuff, but now and then ya just get the itch... Had a good weekend trolling for tiki here in town. :)

Two Trader Vics coffee based drink mugs, a lone TV shaker, a Hawaiian Inn paddle licker and a paddle sucker and an eyeless Daga tiki mug. In the back are a busty hula girl bottle holder in the original box and a ceramic nautilus shell similar to what they used at Trader Vics.

Here's a close up of the bottle holder and the nautilus shell. Sabu started a thread about the nautilus shell. Mine doesn't have the exact same paint pattern as the TV ones.

Also found a carved Asmat bowl from Dutch New Guinea, a Leeteg print and one of those black velvet souvenir pillow cases, in this case from New Zealand.

Here are the fruits of my last big hunt which was a few months ago. Since these pics were still in my camera, here ya go:

Three old floats:

Four Hawaiian Inn mugs, a Mai Kai postcard and two Tiki Gardens shot glasses.

A lamp who's base is a fake nautical lamp, an unopened plastic container of Hawaiian Navy Grog, and an empty Okolehao decanter.

Last weekend I spent a couple of hours browsing the Portobello Road flea market in London where I found this nifty hula-dancer glass inscribed "Honolulu Cheerio" lying in a dusty box. I paid the princely sum of 50p (~$1.00) for it.

Not sure where it's from, but I suspect its a Hawaiian souvenir glass that's been customized specifically for British tourists. Judging by the style of artwork, it looks like it's from the '50s.

I finally got The Book of Tiki!

I don't do the flea-ing and yard-sale-ing so I rarely have anything to report. But I haunt used booksellers online and I finally hit a deal on a new-condition copy for a scant $28.17, WITH shipping from England!

And it looks so nice next to Tiki Modern, another beautiful volume I treasure.

Marcus Pizzuti. He also designed & sculpted our old half-round Ku 8' Gods (think Tiki Oasis many years ago) & our full figure 8' Moai w/the Top Knots (Big Ol' Bash I) plus the 4'ers + our Island Gods multicolor 4-pack mugs & X-Eyes.

Since Tiki Farm is the topic of the moment; I saw this on eBay today - the seller says it's a Tiki Farm piece from 2002, but that's all the info he had. Any other insights or info on this guy?

these are all lamps i have come across over the years from KON-TIKI clevevland ,KAHIKI columbus and a couple from a flea market in the Fla. Keys.i have a couple more but they are being rebuilt.

While out tiki-hunting today my wife spotted this most bizarre incarnation of the Johnny Sens "Frankenstein" mug.

Then, later in the day, while wandering through a area flea market I noticed a guy about to purchase a "Voodoo Village" (old KC restaurant) plate. "RATS" (not really what I said to myself, but you get the gist). I asked if he knew anything about the place and to my surprise, he did; not only Voodoo Village but many other lost KC tiki establishments. I thought I knew ALL the tiki-philes in KC so I asked if he was ever on Tiki Central. Yes, he said. Me too, I said. We introduced ourselves with our TC names and to both our surprises we recognized each other! I had been skunked out of a Voodoo Village plate by none other than SQUID in town visiting the old 'hood for the first time in seven years! I went from feeling VERY unlucky to feeling VERY lucky in under 2 seconds! Squid, hope you enjoy your stay in the old hometown. It was great to meet you!

Okay, here is a few things I picked up last weekend.

An old Postcard from the Arizona Trader Vic's. Looks to be early-mid 1970's. Cool outside shot which shows the nice shape of the A-Frame. (There is one of these on Ebay right now with a low buy it now!!)

The other item is a postcard size menu from a Restaurant in Birch Bay, Washington called The Palms Supper Club. I actually haven't heard of this place before and was stoked to find out about it and that it was so close to our border here.
It list's some food along with some wine and yes, a few tropical drinks. A couple drinks are the "Exotica","Diamond Head","Jungle Flower" and the "Tiki". Cool little menu that also states on the back: "Enjoy Dining and Dancing to the Music of the "Beachcombers" The Swingingest Five Alive"!!! I would say it dates from the very early 1950's.

The next picture is of a old nautical Port Lamp that I was lucky to get. You can tell from the Vic's Rum bottle how big it actually is. It has no glass in it but I am okay with that as I will do a cool display in it!

The next picture is of a few more nautical items I picked up. Two glass floats, an old ships lamp, pair of port hole rims (perfect for my bar!) and an old brass propeller.

Went mug hunting at the Hawaii Collector's show yesterday afternoon - pretty slim pickings for such a large show (about 100 dealers), but I think I saw the master collector Freddie (House of Ku) there, so he may have already cleaned the place out. One dealer had better quality mugs (Trader Vic's, Islander, etc.), but she wanted $45 - $80, and $25 for a Tiki Lelani.

Got a Daga pineapple, Hilton Hawaiian Village Ali'i mug, Coco Joe's tiki, and a vinyl Don Ho that I had never seen before.

Disappointed at finding so little, I stopped by the Thrift Store on the way home:

Found a large Coco Joe's warrior, and three Hilton Hawaiian Village "Hukilau" mugs, as shown on this old drink menu:

That find saved the day.

  1. Curses, I thought I was under the Radar :) I got there a little more than a hour before and was about 30th in line. The good part about that is, Gecko is nowhere to be seen...Muwahahaha. After racing around scanning for Tiki items, at about the 20th stall , I find a "Black Coral" Frank Schirman figure and quickly hang onto it while I look around his booth. While I'm looking, the elderly Local man said to take 50% off the price tags because he was retiring and stopped collecting, choosing to travel instead. Nice guy! The show just opened about 15 min ago!




The best part is the price tag was $50 - 50% = :) .
The original price tag was still on the bottom.

Also found was a replica Marquesan weapon with a broken stone. Easy fix with a local river rock :) $15.


Next was this small Tiki made of fossilized Walrus bone. It looks like a Coco Joe design. The vendor is from the Big Island and usually has a booth and is a pretty nice guy. It was priced at $100+ and he said if I really wanted it, he would go down to $75.


Also found were these Hula wristbands made of raffia and braided cord. This vendor is a regular Swapmeet seller and let me have the 3 for $3. Probably gonna put these on one of the Tiki wrists or ankles. The Coco Joe with purple rhinestone was $3

The final item was a wooden Frank Schirman carving, a little over 12" tall. Asking price $125. The person manning the booth is also a Swapmeet regular, Vintage bottle collector Paul, who was sharing the booth with the Schirman owner. He said he'll talk to his friend and can came back with a $90 take it home price :)

Freddie - beautiful stuff; you collect things of amazing quality - that's why you're the master collector. I see you and Gecko at the Swap Meet and Flea Market occasionally - next time I'll say hi. One morning I saw Gecko buying one of his own mugs - I thought, hey no fair, go make yourself another one! Leave some for us! :)

Mahalo Koolau! Those were some pretty Schweet HHV/TC mugs you found. I'm only the Master of Collecting Dust :lol: Gecko made it to the show about 7:30 and was interested in the short Headress Ku. The vendor Margret wanted $500 or $600 for it and I was telling Gecko to offer her $350, mostly kidding and he was asking if I would buy it for that price. I said I would definitely buy it with his money for that amount :lol: For some reason, I get a guilty pleasure seeing him spend his money :) If it was anybody else she would have said No, I think she is fond of him. Hope to see you at the SwapMeet!
