Hey, Duane! That Tapa rocks! Been a nasty winter so far. I've already paid the plow guy $210.00 of my fun money. I just finished helping my knucklhead son with his homework & I don't have the energy to take pics of my finds. I'll do it tomorrow. I did manage 3 items today, so maybe my mojo is changing. |

They pop up on ebay fairly often; they don't fetch a particularly high price. |

Had some luck today at my favorite thrift today. One of those reversed/inside out printed barkcloth Hawaiian shirts by Liberty House Hawaii. Man this print is so loud that even in reverse it grabbed my attention right away! Not bad for $2.00. Close up to show the brightness A wood doll with “Bora Bora” carved into its back, a HIP Tiki, bottle openers, tiki coasters ( only $0.50 so why not), tin Hawaii dish and 4 metal Hawaii coasters (showing 2 here) I came across a few packs of vintage postcards—over 1000 total and got these Hawaii related ones (few of New Zealand also) mostly hotels, moneky pod trees, Aloha… oh and all of them are not written on except the large one and that has a date of 1966
Set of souvenir dolls in their package Betty & Robert Hawaiian Name mugs --one day I am sure I will find my name dang it!
Not a bad day nor a bad way to spend a couple bucks. Wish I could come across more mugs but I don't mind picking up all this other stuff :) [ Edited by: leleliz 2009-02-10 14:33 ] |

Hey nice find leleliz. The figure on the bottom of the photo is a Duk Duk dancer, Check out page 26 in Tiki Modern. The image was also used by Aloha Jhoe's in Palm springs way back when. |

Staredge- I thought maybe Disney too but there isnt any tags on it so who knows. Trav - yeah even though the sheet is not some vintage item the graphics are pretty well done (for what they are). I couldn't remember what those dancers were called so thanks for the heads up :) I am trying to keep my eyes open for any additional pieces from this set that may turn up. I think I want to cut out a few of the images, tea dye them so they look aged and then frame them in some bamboo frames I have. That should make them less cartoonish (or so I think) |

Well, it's been a crappy winter! I've wasted more time & gas traipsing around New England in search of anything Tiki, often coming home completely empty-handed. Here's what I have managed to find since November. |

I didn't actually find this. Someone mentioned that he had these, and I said, "Please please please sell me one." So I guess it sort of found me. Apparently, this is how the menus would arrive at a Trader Vic's location. They would receive the template and then send it to be printed with the names of the drinks and their prices.

Not so much my finds as my daughters picked these up for me yesterday on their way back from St. George Utah, via Las Vegas. This is a proud day for Psycho Tiki D as I think my daughters may actually be getting it... They thought Trader Vic's was too austere, but they loved Frankie's Tiki Room! Since the weather sucks, no hunting for me. I still got my tiki on though! Later, PTD |

Yes, all joking aside, I think what it really took for them was actually seeing "tiki" outside of my house to figure it out. The only way to do that is to go to a place like Frankie's or the like. The glass float lamp was a focal point for all three of them. They all commented on the fact the one in Frankie's was much smaller than mine...the artwork, tiki carvings, lighting and vibe at Frankie's tied everything together for them. They had just left TV and had this been the only place they had visited, the impact would have not been the same. Do they get enough to participate? I doubt any of the Evil Trio will go to the extremes I have, but I know now when I am gone they will appreciate what I leave behind enough to think about tiki and what it means/meant to me. I could be mistaken as well...one or more of the Evil Trio may actually convert to their Dad's dark side and pick up the tiki mantle. If not, there are always the grandchildren! Either way, this was a good start for all of them! Still admiring them for what they did for me. PTD |

Here's a tale of woe; of tiki finds found but not brought home. I've been walking past this guy in my local antique mall for over two years. Each time I figured I really couldn't afford him. As the years past I was confident that he would always be there for me when I was ready. Well, today he was gone. I hope somebody here got him. [ Edited by: SilverLine 2009-02-18 18:21 ] |

You all know PTD is lying...he must have bought those mugs online.....he's WAY too young to have daughters that could go to Frankie's!! :) Good haul, PTD!!! I'm headed there next month and will have to visit both TV's and Frankies!! Looks like others had a decent tiki hunting week, too! Hopefully I'll have something to report after my trip to the SF Bay Area this weekend!! :drink: Tacky |

Found a mug from Tiki Gardens i a thrift store i Stockholm. The 6th I have found during 10 years of intense search. Tiki-mugs are rare in ol' Sweden. The mug itself is not that pretty, but Tiki Garden was a cool place. Possibly the mug is rare, or at least rarely collected, it isn't featured on Ooga-Mooga (they do have a shot glass with the same print). Cheers! |

Slim pickn's latley. Found this tourist carving that I couldn't pass up, a couple of souvenir mugs and a mint condition Coco Joe's ashtray. The mask is a B-day gift from my mom, though not Tiki it is extremely old and primitive. I think it will go well in the shadows of the lounge. |
