I got this off of SF craigslist thanks to a heads up by psycho tiki d.
The artist is August Holland and the print is The Fire God aka the elusive 3rd print.
It has one small spot but I can't tell if it is a chip or foreign matter, the frame has
some scratches but that's an easy fix. I've seen this hanging in a Tiki Lounge somewhere
maybe F.I.

I'll give you $5.00 for it! Glad to help and glad you got it. There is an August Holland print at FI, but is the Pearls of Wisdom, not The Fire God. Enjoy it and give us a shot of it's final resting place when you get a chance.

And leleliz is right, I am Psycho Tiki D, you may have confused the the name with bigtikidude's!

Psycho Tiki D (I know I am and I am not bigtikidude)!

Nothing yesterday, skunkfest on the good ole Tiki Quest.

Don't usually go out on Saturday's. but tikihammer had family in town and I made myself scarce.

Today's finds...

Another "Tiki's Grill and Bar, Waikiki" beer glass.

For some reason, I keep seeing these "Creature" mugs lately. I guess I didn't realize this was #10 and #11 until I got home and counted them. Oops!

A couple of wood carvings, one Hawaiian and one Maori.

Some Coco Joes lava figures, the one on the left I have not seen before.

A couple of Aloha shirts!

A larger piece of tapa "cloth" folded in half. This is actually material fabric and not mulberry bark.

"Hawaiian Delights-Luke Leilani & His Hawaiian Delights and "Ray Coniff's Hawaiian Album".

Vintage Breakdown Bow, quiver and arrows, from Fiji. Bow slides together to make full size bow!

My favorite find today was this "The Lanai-San Mateo" ashtray.

Later,

PTD

Found this Kelbo's Smiley mug at a thrift store, while on a road trip. Amazing odds, considering I only go to any thrift about once every two months anymore.

Well, had some fun this weekend! Drove to Emeryville, CA on Saturday, went to Trader Vics for a cocktail, a lovely scorpion with a fresh gardenia, and to Forbidden Island (took a cab from our hotel so we could partake! Bought a mug from each:

oh, on the way we hit an antique mall and found these:

I really love the little green man (but looks like he was made for lovin')!! did he hold perfume? Absynth? I have no clue...

We got up bird early and hit the Alameda Antiques Faire. Found some nice things, found some outrageously priced things we didn't buy too! (sorry, no photos of those)

and the little magazine rack, perfect for Tiki Mags

All in all, not a bad haul. Some old, some new, If it's tiki, I like it :)

TikiMookie posted on 06/07/2009

Oops, forgot the best ones!

We didn't know these were different until we got home and looked closer. Thouht they both were Trader Vics...

I was so thrilled to see the second one was from Tiki Bob's in SF!!

The "non-tiki mug" looks like a tiki to me! See his nose & smile? Made me think of a cool retro version of Tiki Bob :)

An Australian Aborigine that looks like it came from the Australian version of The Dollar Tree, a nicely carved A-Frame house, and a Moai pendant. Slim pickens lately (Not the Country Singer) and the tiki finds are becoming tiki
style finds.

I paid just over $5 for him, that's probably part of why I'm so happy with him too! Love getting things for a good deal!

The Alameda Antique Fair was PACKED today with people but more importantly vendors. I have never seen so many people selling there...I was in heaven. Saw lots and lots of usual stuff, some Witcos which was a 1st (cheap!but I passed). Got all this for under $15 - oddly enough I was buying so much other stuff at amazing prices I was distracted from the tiki hunt. Any NorCal people should go next month--esp if the weather is good--the fair was jumping!

Vic I wish I would of known you were there today! I never see anyone I know --but then again I kinda get in the zone when I am shopping there and have tunnel vision

I paid $4 for each at 2 seperate tables -- I think they were priced at $8 and $6 but I negotiated when I purchased other things from the vendors as well.

I like the ass-tray . I found an ass-tray at the Lodi antique fest and posted a pic a few pages back. I have to say that yours is much cooler !

Other than pointing people towards helpful threads, it's been a long time between drinks for me here in "Collecting". I've just had a pretty amazing week by NZ standards, so thought I better share. It really does take some time to shoot and post all this stuff, so thanks to the regular contributors who keep this thread (probably my favourite) ticking over...

First, some older but still recent finds - there would be more but I couldn't figure out where I put them!

PNG bird man, Sepik I presume...

Crown Lynn butter(?) dish, one of a pair with an awesome full face moko design that's very hard to see because the two glaze colours are so close:

A very old looking clear glass float:

A large contemporary Koruru mask by my woodcarving tutor - traditionally it should be outside, but it's too valuable! So he sits just inside the front to door, keeping guard and greeting visitors. I'm not always a fan of painted tikis but I love this piece and the bright hues were what attracted me intially!

Now on to the weekend - we crossed the island for a family visit to the east coast and I had literally a few hours each day to get out hunting. My task was made easier by a family member who is a crazy pack-rat like me, and knows all the best places to look. He tipped me off to a tiki at a second hand clothing & junk store near where I was staying. Stoked to find this little guy when I got there:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/5041/4a2c93a1.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=68f9b5554abe1e1c047b56f742efb889

The next morning, after a big night and little sleep, I hit the markets. My man was out and about again too, and grabbed these for me just before someone else did:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/5041/4a2c9460.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=e807e429609d16a853ce37a4d47b199d
Mugs in the wild are pretty much non-existent here, and it seems that someone else always grabs them for me when I'm out looking - not that I'm complaining!

I did manage a few finds of my own at the market...

A nice postcard from 1971...

Some vinyl:

My first ever Martin Denny album! Overpriced and scratched but playable. I passed on a very cheap but pretty much destroyed copy of "Quiet Village" from the same seller. (PTD, you don't know how lucky you are!) The only other ones I've seen in recent times were about 15 bucks each with OK covers and totally buggered vinyl!

He had some more good stuff, love the font on this one:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/5041/4a2c95ea.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=ed8537fde98448122c7d83ee581848f7

This album I already had, but it was cheap and it's an excellent record. This band is/was actually local to the city I was in, and an uncle of mine was a drinking buddy of Nick Nicholson back in the 60s. My cousin has lots of info (he turned me on to these guys and we were talking about the band just the previous night!) so I may post something on them in "Music" if/when I get a chance...I think many of the music buffs here would enjoy their sound.

So, back home from the city again, and there's a box waiting for me on the doorstep just to finish the weekend on a high note!

Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/5041/4a2c99aa.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=9124e43b145ebda4e267e111eb579bb9

Witco in NZ - who would have thought? I have only ever seen one piece previously - an outrigger wall hanging with an orange background. I would have loved to buy it, but couldn't afford it at the time and the size (about 5' long) meant I wouldn't have been able to hang or even store it anywhere! These matching Kus are probably the highlight of the year for me so far and just go to show that anything is possible, even in a Poly-Pop starved locale like NZ! Kudos to the unknown punter who brought these back to NZ from wherever it was....

No just the US, Canada is a mythical country like Narnia or Oz or Luxemburg, its part of America like Scotland is in England, near London.

No seriously has anyone found Witco in Canada, I thought the thing about "Witco International" was that they had never really exported carvings outside of the US?

Thanks for the info Buzzy, no tag on mine and I should have looked closer at the fingers and toes.

Amazing finds by everyone lately, the main reason I love coming here!

Found three tourist carvings from New Zealand at Goodwill the other day. The small one on the right is called "Teko Teko" according to the label on the back.

How many visits to the Goodwill stores does it take to find one mug? For me... about 8. And when there's no mugs I start looking through the albums. Old cardboard can really stink. 40% off yesterday got me this orange Orchids for 60 cents. I'm happy.

Wow, Bongo, I wish I found something on average every 8 trips around here...that would be great! It has been really dry lately, although I did find my very first Leilanis a few weeks ago at a yard sale, and a six pack at that! Woo hoo!

Bongo you are NOT allowed to just post 1 find at a time.

UNLESS you post 1 new find everyday.

So ya better get to shopping son!

Ha! True, but I guess I have cleaned out everything within a 20 mile radius of my house, or it is just a dry spell. I also collect Fiestaware, which is even fewer and far between (for those who refuse to pay antique store prices).

I had a bunch of people ask to see how my flea market Orchids of Hawaii lamp turned out. Here you go.

I rewired it and reattached the bamboo. The rewiring took about twenty minutes. The bamboo took about two weeks, and I still didn't get it quite right. Despite that, I think it looks pretty nice with The Wall of Tiki Farm in the background.

And then I turned off the lights after I learned how to use all of the night shot features on my camera.

Awesome job on the lamp Tiki-Kate. If an intergalactic sea urchin ever visited our galaxy I bet that's exactly what its spaceship would look like.

I really need to! I am a hermit due to unreliable transportation. There was a time when the Salvation Army here had goodies galore and then they closed up shop (: Our Goodwill has gone down hill, they sell broken Target stuff, they often have dollar store stuff on their shelves marked $3, and they write all over the goods with permanent markers or wrap it all up in packing tape. For a while, they did not sell any second hand stuff at all, only the Target gems. Once in a while they have something good that is not overpriced, that's what keeps me going back!
