Slim pickins around here. Mrs. Fury found this recently...

Coco Palms Hotel in Waikiki?

Buzzy you always seem to post a lot of HIP and CoCo Joe's finds...how do you have them displayed?I have always wondered.

Here's an old post on my thread where I turned my first sunglass case into a CocoJoe's display case
Bottom of this page

Here's where I made the second one. This post shows the original case real well
Top of page

Here are the first two cases and a shelf on my then new tiki wall
Bottom of page

Since then, Ive added a couple hundred more pieces to the collection. To hold them I got two more cases for my living/carving room, to bring the total to four now. Here are the two newer ones:

I had to take this pcture dark because the doors were always in the way or making glare .

I also have another room with a couple hundred or so more on some shelves. there's another shelf you can't see to the right of all the stuff in the next picture. These pictures were taken today:

Another little shelf in the same room:

And a while ago I was dusting and put a bunch of my ashtrays in some boxes. I still haven't moved them back. They're in another room:

There are also a few dozen more tucked here and there in little stashes around the house.

Buzzy Out!

Lava whore  Aloha, Freddie

buzzy you hoard lava like some people hoard cats !!! :)

(or witco, tiki david)......:)

Thanks for the pics Buzzy. I didn't even think to search to see if you had ever posted them before.

I think you may have a CoCo Joe infestation on your hands!

DAMN! and I thought I had a lot of Coco Joes.
At least you've got most of your's displayed. Nice work.

Brimfield, MA July 09

Witco for my ever more accurately named Witco Room, 4 bar stools for my outside bar (just in time for my Aug 1 party) and a couple of really cool wall hangings.

Granite-- Love those wall hangings! Pickin's have been slim lately... but found this Coco Joe's today. He's nearly 11 inches tall. (#151, WINNER TIKI")

Hey, Granite! I bought some mugs from the woman that had that Witco bench. I really had no place for it. What did you think of the Hippo stool? Saw the wall hangings, too. Very cool, but, again, I had no place for them. I just bought some small stuff. I'll post my finds later. Very sparse show, a lot of vendors missing.

The Hippo looked to be in great shape, I'm just not really into those. I hesitated on the stool/bench too because I'm mainly interested in Tiki, but I've got this room I'm calling the Witco Room, so I figured I couldn't pass up a piece that I always liked the look of, even though it's not Tiki (it's so rare to find any around here, let alone two pieces). Those are the same folks I got that Witco Tiki Lamp from in May. We had three goals Yesterday, find bar stools, find some Witco, and maybe some wall hangings (although we really wanted Witco Musical instruments or Tiki) so when we found all three to a certain extent, I HAD to buy!
The lady told me she sold most of her Tiki stuff earlier, and I wondered who it was. :) (I knew Tikisgrl wasn't going 'til later in the week)

Not great mugs; a coupla Harvey's, an Al Harrington, an Orchids mug I didn't have & a pair of Treasure Craft S&Ps. I've got to get batteries for the camera. I'll post pics later.

T

So what you are saying is there is nothing left @ Brimfield, so I should just sleep in tomorrow?

I'm prolly going to the beach, instead. I've never seen that place so empty! Normally. I wouldn't have bought the stuff I did. I was getting desperate for something tiki. I did buy one neat item today from a vendor that saves stuff for me. I'll post it later.

Slim pickins' again at Brimfield. I did score a few mugs, a set of S&Ps, Maui tourist tiki, a swizzle form the Kowloon & a matchbook from the Outrigger Inn & a few albums. I searched the place for hours just to find this crap:

This was my best score. I'd like some help from everyone. Have you seen one like it? Any idea how old? I really dig it, regardless & the price wasn't bad.

She's very well made. The fit & finish is just awesome. I didn't know it was a nutcracker til the guy told me. This was from a vendor that keeps a lookout for Tiki stuff for me & I really appreciate his help.

The native girl nut cracker is a common tourist item -but rarely carved that well, usually just hacked wood. I have never seen one with such skirt detail, and I NEVER have come across one with its own stand! Cool find.

Thanks, BigBro! The stand is just about 18 inches tall & she is 14 1/2. I've seen the crappy tourist ones before & passed on them, but I couldn't pass on this one.

Nice score on the skull swizzles TikiDavid and those Hawaiian Cottage stirs are cool and creepy at the same time!!

Yeh Big Kahuna, cool find!!

Seen lot's of the nutcrackers but never a base. Nice one!! A few of the nutcrackers are found with those Monkey Pod Gift Shop labels on them that you have probably seen. Made in the Philippines, sold in Hawaii!!

While visiting my mom over the 4th of July weekend I saw this lamp in her guest room.

My grandparents had purchased this lamp on one of their many trips to Hawaii. The metal plate actually has my birth year on it.

The lamp is now mine. :)

SWEET! The only thing I get from my mom's house is career advice :P

I went shopping this morning.

I love these Kono Hawaii umbrellas.

does your mom know it's yours or is she gonna just notice it's "missing"? nice score either way.

Been a pretty busy week. First, 3 mugs I traded with my buddy. the one on the right is from the Kahiki:

Today, 2 mugs from my local haunt, $5.00 for both:

Hit a different flea-market today & scored some good stuff. 2 mugs for $5.00 each:

Coupla Orchids Volcano bowls, $5.00 each:

Very well-made shell lamp, $5.00:

A little Maori mask/plaque, $5.00:

The obligatory LP, $1.00:

A menu from the Hu Ke Lau in Columbus, OH. A little scruffy, but still cool:

Finally, a little TC porn . A gen-yoo-wine Orchids Of Hawaii catalog:

All in all, not a bad week!

L

Great finds as of late BK! I guess this makes up for all your bitchin!

You're just jealous! :P

I love the 'gen-yoo-wine' catalog. I literally laughed out loud and not the fake LOL. Did you get the 'gen-yoo-wine' from the movie '1941' where Holllis Wood was taken prisoner on a Japanese sub, and the Japanese were going through all of his personal effects and the prize of the Cracker Jack box was a compass? Funny.

Wow! Great week!

She knows I have it. :) I did feel a little guilty asking to give it a new home in my lounge but it really didn't fit her hippy farm / buffalo decor.

Rick,

Nice finds buddy! What was the original price for the seahorse lamp right page, bottom left hand corner?

Thanks,

PTD

Here are some scans I did of that catalog a while ago:

Orchids Catalogs

Buzzy Out!

Due to my employment sitch (as in lack thereof), I haven't been doing much thrifting or antiquing lately, but I picked up this nice Fireside Moai mug and a couple of carved Maori souvenir S&P shakers over the weekend in St. Paul at a very reasonable price.

That painting (or print?) is GREAT!

Those umbrellas from the KONO Hawaii in Santa Ana are a rare find too. Very nice.

Well, Duane. I really don't want to give you any misinformation, so send me the lamp, I'll inspect it, determine it's value & send it back, if it's worth shipping.

Okay,okay! $227.00

Tikiville, may I be so bold as to ask the price of your Frank Schirman? I saw a female bust last week, about 8"-10" tall priced at $420.00. The price completely blew me away. I didn't think these pieces went for anywhere near that price. If you don't wish to divulge, that's cool, but do you think $420.00 is way out of line for the piece I saw?

Thanks for the heads up , I gave away one to a close friend of a little girl kissing the cheek of a boy ( sentimental reasons) am I to assume I should have kept it ?

Today during my lunch break I decide to walk over to the local thrift store to see whats up.
BINGO! Scored a Don the Beachcomber coconut mug for .99 cents.

Here's a photo of the mug in situ (C'mon...take my lead and snap shots of your tiki finds as you find them!)

P.S. I didn't buy the yellow tiki vase/mug shown next to it. Made in China etc. If anybody really wants it bad, drop me a PM and I'll buy it for you, granted if its still on the shelf tomorrow.

He had a bunch of them, including a small female bust for $120.00 that I saw at another table for $20.00. I think he was smoking something. I know for a fact, he didn't sell any of these.

P.S.: TikiG, nice score!

Wow...and thanks!

I still have not seen a picture of the one I bought in either catalog that has been posted. Mine is six sided and has the sea grass top. Don't know if it was an earlier or later production?

Still, that was a bitchin find on the catalog, along with everything else found lately.

Tiki-Kate,

Who was the artist on your painting?? That screams cool as well!

Did you find that in Western Mass by any chance? I asked a dealer there & he wouldn't sell :0(

Must've been my charm!
