Bought these wonderfully hideous tiki stools from a guy on Craigslist last week...They're ugly, but I love 'em.
I don't know anything about them. Anybody ever seen them before?

It looks like they were inspired by this classic Witco bar stool:

Tiki Modern page 240/241

...but they look like fairly recent interpretations, with that "colorful" retro diner upholstery and all...

those stools are awesome this was my biggest mask find i posted on the tv site because i wasnt able to post on here. any one else see one of these this big before?

More from my 6:30 a.m. stint Sunday before the crawl and a couple of crawl items...

Two postcards from the Kon Tiki Sheraton-Mt Royal Hotel in Canada.

Swizzles and picks from Trader Vic's, Harvey's Lake Tahoe, Hawaiian Village and Surf Room at the Royal Hawaiian Honolulu.

Vintage Trader Vic's speckled fogcutter mug.

Vintage Samoan Trader Vic's fogcutter mug.

Petrogylph Daga mug from the Sheraton Royal Waikoloa, courtesy of bigbadtikidaddy and the sale.

"The Paradise Tumbler" courtesy of Matt the Cat and the sale.

Kon Tiki bowl from dan of danlovestikis.

Pisco Moai bottle.

Another nice tapa, I like the animal patterns on this one!

Later,

PTD

I managed to pick up a few items at a yard sale this weekend.

I also picked up a mid-century hifi cabinet which I will be fixing up.

Not too bad.

found these for 2 bucks a pop , not a bad deal !

Oh yeah? Well I found this Coco Joe fridge magnet at Salvation Army today, so there.

Hopefully I'm not jinxing this because it's not in my hot little hands yet but....

Thank you Ebay! I really love my "unusual early american pressed glass vase" !!!

I found this at a yard sale on Sunday and posted about it on our Tiki crawl thread
http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=32907&forum=17&start=90&92

It's costing twice as much to have it moved as I paid for it but I think I'm still getting a deal.

It needs a little restoration, the broken piece is included.

What do you think?

Darilyn

Wow!

aquired last night from a friend back from Vegas!

so much great stuff from FRANKIES.....this makes 6 of 8, 2 to go !

From today...

Vintage Hawaiian wood carved perfume bottle holder.

Bronze Tiki bottle opener with rhinestone eyes, marked Japan on the back.

Has anyone ever seen a boxed set of these Don The Beachcomber Mai Tai glasses? They sure are exotic!

Later!

PTD

Awesome set of glasses PTD! I've never seen that box before. I have a set of the glasses but I never knew they were from Don the Beachcomber.

Would you look at the size of those cans on that gal LOL !
Im just saying.

Nothing earthshattering, lately. Mostly the usual suapects.

I'll keep hunting.
FYI, I'm always interested in trades.

PS: Duane, those glasses are killer & so's the box. Hopefully, someday, I'll be able to give up my amateur status & go pro like you!

Hard to follow up on the Beachcomber glasses with orignial box!

Found these this week.

  1. Pineapple glass with lid, marked Orchids of Hawaii on bottom

  2. Vintage Mai Kai mug, from 1960's/1970's per the lady that sold it to me

  3. Carved tiki statue, no markings, (a heavy sucker for it's size). Anybody know of a manufacturer?

Thanks for the kudo's on the Beachcomber find...I had seen those glasses in Alameda without the box and could not pinpoint an orgin. Hopefully I will see them again next time I go.

A few items from today...

A ceramic Ku-Kaili-Moku Zenith New York Hanaki T.M. A46 Japan.

Always wondered if these were aquarium decorations until today when the Ku had a price sticker on the back from Capital Aquarium.

Kuo Wah Cafe Menu.

The Nipa Hut Menu Redwood City California.

Another Trader Vic's ashtray.

Not sure what these were used to serve, but they are marked "Trader Vics Made In USA" on the bottom.

Later!

PTD

New stuff:

Maori wood carving about 12" tall

HIP penholder and some Cocojoe's pendants:

CocoJoe fish:

Kona coffee mill resin cup:

PNG figure carving with a bunch of shells embedded in clay:

I think it's supposed to be a male figure holding a Mwei mask.

If it's so,then it's from the Iatmul people of the middle Sepik river region.

Buzzy Out!

I found a few cool things today.

I picked up some fish floats and a couple of sets of rum bottles with matching skull shots. Skulls aren't my thing, but I figured I could trade them for something at some point.

I finally found a chunky swag lamp that I could afford. I also found a great Islander matchbook. Ron-tiki gave me a copy of Tiki Style and the Sheraton swizzle. Thanks again, Ron. That was really nice of you.

I was shopping with a friend today, and on the way back to the car we found a box filled with at least 1000 match covers. The seller was asking a really low price for the whole box, so we split the cost and spent a fun-filled afternoon sorting through them all. Luckily, we didn't have to wrestle over any of them. There were at least two of almost everything we both wanted. :D Even though I ended up with several dozen cool tiki match covers, I think the one that I was the most excited about finding was the illusive Scam 9000.

PTD - there was a Nipa Hut at the Reef Inn in Reno Nevada in the 1960s. Your menu looks to be earlier than that. I wonder if the two locations were connected somehow.

I found a smaller one of those skull jugs today. I also have one of the large ones and a set of the shots like yours.

Here are my recent finds:

Kahiki coconut sugar jar, couple mugs and the skull jug with a Montreal souvenir sticker.

Parrots, Rasta-tiki, & a lighter.

Teapots. One is likely more of a totem pole design and is missing its top. The shell says Florida on the lid.

The teapot on the left looks like it was part of the Hawaiian Kai tea set.

Hey PTD,
Nice find on the Nipa Hut menu. Is there an address on it? I'd like to go see what's there now.
Aloha,
:tiki:

A customer of mine just sent this to me. I hadn't seen it before. Hope its not a repost.

Thanks a lot for the info. It seemed familiar, but I admit to not being convinced enough to do a search. The eyes are perhaps what confused me a bit to the style.

Mother-In-Law gave us this as an Anniversary gift...bless her dear old heart...does any one have any clue as to its creator or perhaps origin.....8)

T

well I got a turn table and sound system for behind the
'inside' Witco Tiki bar area,
so now I have to start looking for vinyl, these today

I found this today at the Antique Expo. It was marked $7.50 but the dealer let me have it for $7. Nice guy!! Steve Crane and Associates Coconut bowl.

Sputnik Housewares....Jetset Furnishings from the Atomic Age!

[ Edited by: sputnikmoss 2009-10-26 12:50 ]

Mostly tiki style items this week but you can never have too much.

A pair of outrigger canoes make good bathtub toys

Nudie Hawaiian cards for the gents

A fun porch light bulb cover that looks like a tiki bar hanging lamp

Cool stationary that’s relevant to me, when I was in the 6th grade at Aina Haina Elementary School each kid was given a case of these and told to sell them to their friends for school fund, they were soon replaced by overpriced candy bars.

Tiki pipe holder with Kristen pipe, what else would you keep in it?

And some pineapple flavored tobacco to make the illusion complete.

Saturdays Tiki w00t!

Slow day, but some finds...

Hawaiian Eye album.

Kauai dollar coin.

Items found in a scrapbook.

Grad Nite at Disneyland 1962 and 1964, noting the Tahitian Terrace is on the program in 1964.
These were from the same scrapbook as the other items, with more from the grad nites.

Found this cool wood carved bowl with four tikis. Does anyone know where this orginated from?

These jugs and shot glasses were once peddled as "Spirtit of Luau" sets in cheapo party supply catalogs, together with fish netting and two plastic leis. I have one on page 233 of the BOT:

Thanks, Sven. I knew I'd seen them somewhere before.

They've got WestPac stickers on the bottom. I know that WestPac "borrowed" other manufacturers designs for ceramic pieces that were often sold as boxed sets.

Considering they had a hit in 1963 at #94 "Baja" surf music all the way, it would have been way cool to see them play Disneyland.

Enjoy...

I have been to D-land a bazillion times,
I wanna know where the Oaks Tavern is.
too bad they were not playing at the Tomorroland Terrace though.

and the Astronauts did many vocal songs too,
so it wouldn't have been a all instro night.

Jeff(btd)

The Oaks Tavern was located in Frontierland close to Golden Horseshoe Review.

I use to go there to watch the show.
13 years old, drinkin' 5 to 6 sasparillas (spelled sarsaparilla?) and with Can Can girls.
I guess Walt Disney was my first fix! :)
