scored this cool myers rum mirror sign today. anyone know when these were made?

(not my picture, couldnt find my camera)

Just to show how persistence pays off I found these four Mauna Loa Detroit glasses at a place I never find anything but I kept going and today BINGO! Also picked up this vintage shirt in electric green. The pics don't do the color justice. Thanks.

This closeup is closer to the real color but still doesn't show how bright it really is.

I found this Tiki at an antique store last week for $20.00. No markings or stamps on it. It has a male on one side and a female on the other. If any one knows any info on this Tiki please let me know. Its about 15 inches tall, dark wood. 20 bucks seamed like a great deal to me.

Thanks hottiki!! :)

First edition, pre-tiki, of course. Nice collectable, nice read.

The most un-tiki Trader Vic item I found thus far...I know someone else found this recently but I cant find the post. Where did this come from?

It has Trader Vic written in the vase near the bottom edge (look close you can see the indentation kind of) and some sort of faded Asian stamp on the bottom

I said what the hell for $0.99

Great find. It's from Trader Vic's Japan. Does it have a quail on the other side or just the morning dove shown?

Felt sorry for this little guy... he got no eyes!

Nice find on the blind fish. I have an extra set of real looking fish eyes I don't need. Here's how they look. Alot better than the cheap googie eyes. PM me and I'll send them out to ya if your interested.

L

Yup it has a bird on the other side too.

Thanks for the info. Explains the Japanese character stamp on the underside.

Gotta send a shout out to leleliz...liz sent me an email about an estate sale that started this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. I had seen the pictures and didn't think I was going to go cuz I didn't see anything I was interested in from the pictures. She told me to watch the video, which didn't really change my mind much, but since I went to work late today and the sale was on my way home I stopped by.

I arrived exactly at 4:00 and found, no kidding, at least 60 people lined up outside. Should I stay or should I go? I knew out of all those people there in front of me someone was there for the tiki mugs. Reluctanly I decided to stay and waded through the swarm of people to where I thought the bar items would be found. As I pushed my way through the crowd, a woman passed me going the other way with a box and inside the box were all of the tiki items from the video...4 small Westwood shots, a black Moai mug, a PMP long limbed mug, etc. I rounded the corner and nothing tiki was left.

I looked through the other rooms, nothing of any interest to be found, save a small wood carved set of tiki salt and peppers. I decided to leave, but I my way out, I noticed the lady with the box of mugs sitting on the couch and talking to someone on her cell phone. As she spoke she was describing the mugs and some other things she had. I decided to sit in a chair next to her and as she finished asking the person on the phone what they wanted I asked her if I could have the ones she didn't want.

She kept the Black OMC Moai mug from The Tikis So San Gabriel and the four small Westwood shots. I ended up getting these...

This was the only thing she didn't have that was tiki.

Amber two faced Creature from the Black Lagoon mug with swizzles I have not gone through yet.

Three tiki bucket mug from The Tikis So Gabriel California (I did not have this one) and swizzles I have not gone through yet.

And something I have not seen before; an OMC bamboo mug marked with The Tikis So San Gabriel California. The only other bamboo mug I have seen like this one was from the Stockton Islander.

Thanks Liz!

Glad you stuck it out and managed to come away with some good stuff!

I am bummed I missed the sale but hey the "tag team tiki hunting method" worked out just fine!

Determination pays off PTD , never give up! Nice little score.

A few of things picked up today.

T

picked up a nice moai mug from The Islands, phoenix az, its black and about 7 inches tall, at an estate sale today. does anybody have an idea about how common it is and an average retail price for it. in any case its worth much more to me than the $1.50 that i paid for it. i think that she was using it as a small vase. Thanks, Ken

Today just 2 finds but worth the $5.49 I paid for 'em!

Hilton Hawaiian Vilage Dragon Mug and a pair of S&Ps from the Hawaii Kai :

Found at the same thrift that yielded the 8 Stockton Islander peanut men and the Tiki Bob salt and pepper shakers. Good day at a great thrift!

TT

I found three Tahitian Lanai bamboo mugs at an antique store, and bought all three for under $5. I’ve noticed though that the writing on each one is slightly different, as are the markings on the bottoms. Does anyone know if these were handmade?

Thanks,
Tam Tiki

Garage-Sale pickin's were poor this week. Just one lousy Hawaiian album to show for my troubles.

T

Oh What A Beautiful Moai.

Just a couple recent finds from the Ozarks no less . .

Got a pair of these Hong Kong Bar mugs in excellent condition!

And this odd little guy. There's a version of him in "Tiki Quest" page 62 but mine lacks the handle and has a rather odd top. He was a buck, so I figured I couldn't go wrong.

A puffer found its way to my door,
And added to my tiki decor.
But alas! He was blind!
'Til Trav sent eyes so sublime,
Now he's "Little Puffie Wonder" no more!

Thanks Uncle Trav! You are just too, too nice!

UT

Bongo, Thank you so much my friend. I'm glad they worked out for you. And I must say no one looks more excited about the new eyes than that fish. Thanks for posting the new look. Enjoy!

I found these Halloween day looking for some props for my costume. The store was 50% off everything all day .
I thought I would take a peek and see what I could find.If anybody knows the maker or where the peanut mugs
come from , I would appreciate it.The pineapple that holds tooth pick H’orderves looks like it's made from the
usual monkey pod .The green and brown mug looks like a hobbyist mug , but the weight of a better quality.
Has some neat petroglyphs that surround the mug.Kinda likin the unusual colors on the brown and green mug.

Aloha- Trader Billy

Nice finds 1961, The bisque style peanut mugs are old OMC. They come smooth and textured and some are marked from the Luau Hut, Hawaiian Inn or Bali Hai. The green mug is very nice. It has a hobbyist style glaze which I think makes it quite unique....very cool!

My wife brought home these three bottles, a gift from one of her clients who knew I liked Tikis.

All United Airlines, Hawaiian Open decanters. She brought home these two Suntory Royal ones from 1982 and 1986 and the Jim Beam Tiki from 1976 (Not pictured). All three are unopened. I can't drink Whiskey on account I brake out in handcuffs. A couple of friends sampled the beam and said it went down smooth and warmed them from the belly up.

Just when I thought I had every Tiki and Hawaiian related Jim Beam and UA whiskey
decanter ever produced, then whamo !The double tiki decanter is sweet, I don't think
I have ever seen that one before un-damaged and in good shape.

Not able to do any hunting last weekend on account of my anniversary and visitors from out-of-town, but the visitors gifted me with a couple of items...

Besides the Westwood, I didn't have the other ones!

Another smaller tortoise shell!

For a couple of sisters that don't know much about tiki, they did pretty good!

All United Airlines, Hawaiian Open decanters.

Those decanters are absolutely fantastic! And with the ads! How great it must be to get plastered from them while beholding these pieces of ceramic liquor container art!

Here is a photo from Sabu's files that shows two happy Hawaiian Open participants:

That's a great find! These were also used at Latitude 20.

I see more of these around here than anything else. But it helps scratch the itch.

Reyn Spooner (M)
I don't collect shirts but I liked this one. It's rayon and quite soft.

Decanter with 6 tiny shot glasses
I know I've seen this posted before. I don't recall who manufactures this thing.

Ruzic
I found this on my doorstep. :)

Wow! I reeeeally like that last find!

P.S.: I think Kenny should design Aloha shirts!

[ Edited by: bigbrotiki 2009-11-07 17:29 ]

I was fortunate to have first crack at the records at an estate sale this weekend.

They were owned by an ex-fireman who had good taste in music and kept his lps in mint condition too.

Today's finds...

Small Coco Joe's pendant.

Bag full o' matches, was able to see a couple of tiki ones in it!

Dinner menu from the S.S. President Cleveland, 1955.

Three PMP Bamboo mugs.

Two Stockton Islander Hula Girl mugs.

Here is one that eluded me until today...Stockton Islander Bumatay mug! Picked this one up with the two hula girl mugs for a grand total of $20.00!

Later!

PTD

An Islander Bumatay for less than $20 is definitely a cause to celebrate!

BK

Duane, that deal with the devil is gonna catch up to you someday!

Nice! I envy your hunting skills!

Here are some of the matchbooks I found today...

Some Hawaiian locales, along with a couple of Mark Thomas Inn and Tiburon Lodge ones!

Some tiki ones.

This one is pretty cool, I had not seen it before!

Lots of other unique ones, when I get the chance I'll post them in the matchbook thread!

When I left to go shopping this morning, I was hoping to find a mug, a matchbook and a dress. Here's what I ended up with.

I found a Tonga Room hurricane glass plus some salt and pepper shakers and some Sheraton Waikiki swizzles.

I always ask for a price when I see PNG masks. I couldn't resist this one. (He's less scary in person.)

I did find a dress, and then I found two more along with a Sandwich Islands jacket. Now I have to find someone who can fit into the jacket. (It's a pretty decent size.)

When I was walking the mask back to the car I found someone selling matchbooks. I was so happy to find the Kona Kove matchbook. I had just lost an auction on ebay a few weeks ago.

About a minute later, I found this. The last Vicious Virgin mug that I found had been painted gold. It's nice to have one with the original glaze.

After taking that load to the car, I took a different route and came across a piece of gravel art.

These are the stools that came with the Witco bar that I found after putting the moais in the car. I couldn't fit the bar into the Saturn, obviously. Ookoo and Krustiki were kind enough to load it into their van.

I think I'm done shopping for a while. :)
