This week's finds...

Not much this week, passed up the usual suspects and only purchased items I didn't have already.

Don The Beachcomber ashtray-Sahara Hotel Las Vegas Nevada.

Have not seen many of these and this has eluded me until today, Westwood tiki spice jars with the rack.

Unknown orgin of this metal tiki mask. 22" tall x 14" wide, extremely heavy. Purchased from a seller who in turn bought it from a collector who had it in storage for the past 35 years and the original owner claimed to have purchased this from a closed tiki bar in the Bay Area. Does anyone recogize this?

Later,

PTD

Sorry no scanner...
From September 30 1960 thru October 3 1960 I have these Matson Lines cruise newspapers "The Polynesian" and a letter from the Captain to his passengers.

The 4 newspapers were left on the doorsteps of each cabin ( I believe) and have info on the ship, things to know when traveling, info on the arrival and dos and donts

Then there is also an arrival paper that lays out the events for the day of their arrival to Honolulu.

1 letter from the Captain thanks the passengers for choosing Matson Lines and explains all about their voyage home and the food and parties that will go on.

The papers open once and are appx 12" by 9"

Pretty freakin' cool !

New stuff:

A Milo Wood Madame Pele carving by "Paul of Hawaii":

Maori letter opener:

Polyart King Kam:

Coco joe's warrior:

CCJ's Menehune stack:

Luau and Kon Tiki stirrer sticks

SeaWorld Coffee Cup:

Guam Tiki Head:

Tiki Mug Party Pack:

Tiki candles:

Buzzy Out!

Great week for me tiki collecting in Atlanta. Nice mug swap with a fellow TCer for this guy,. Super pleasant lunch talking tiki.

AND a 6 piece set of 3 strand pretzel rattan furniture in fair to very good condition for a paltry $150, pre-sanded and almost ready for staining.

Moving the furniture in is another kick in the arse needed to go from "cinder block room full of tiki collections and a bar" to "built out bar" which will be fun too.
Now I just need to re cover the cushions and stain the furniture to match the bar.

L

Tiki-Atari nice rattan score. I wish I knew how to sew..I would make a mint making cushions for everyone's rattan sets :)

Just a few for today:

leleliz,

Con Fuego! Nice score.

What's that blue cup up front left? Looks like the logo from the Polynesian in Seattle.

OC beach burn baby!!!

L

Always jealous of a DTB-good score!

Bongo - that explains the tags I found that said "If found please return to BB in IN"

Silverline the black one is by Imperial Imports stamped 1991-so not super old but pretty tall.

Someone made an offer within moments of me posting a pic.

If he bails there is someone else in line
If HE bails the I will see if you would like to make an offer.

:)

These are the mugs I've found so far this summer. I've only been collecting a short time, so I'm very happy with these, although I know none of them are particularly rare or special. I found them all at one particular thrift store in the area and they were all $2, except the salt shaker and the Malibu Moai, which were $0.59 each. I couldn't find the matching pepper shaker, so I just brought home the salt shaker. Any idea what it is? It looks like a monkey to me?! Also found the beautiful 2 tier table for $15 yesterday. Any idea what it is either, or who made it? Or how I can find another or 2? Mahalo! -Jones

All of my tiki finds:

Close up of the monkey shaker lol:

The table:

I've also found my share of "tiki" furniture and hawaiian shirts, maybe I'll take pictures of them and post them later!

[ Edited by: pennjones 2010-08-10 20:30 ]

A nice collection pennjones! I'm not aquainted with the shaker... it might be something unusual. (Someone else will have info on it.) The dark green Westwood mug in the center of your photo is one of my favorites! I have one and it's sits in a place of honor.

A few things today...

Nudie mug with a spanish writing "Pelliz Ca Me Los Cachettes!!" Loose translation: "I like to pinch the cheeks".

This kind of reminds me of a cannibal pot-has multiple petroglyph designs, made by DAFA Arts and Crafts Co. LTD.

Moonraker/Capt Charles peanut mug, Pacifica, California. I didn't have this yet.

Later,

PTD

Scored these Hawaii Kai mugs today..not great deals, but very fair prices

[ Edited by: hala_kahiki 2010-08-13 15:52 ]

Seen this mug often but never one with an "Imperial Imports Japan" sticker on bottom. Anyone have info?

Good finds lately everyone :)

Love that end table and the nudie mug !

Some great Friday the 13th scores.

Assortment of neato pieces:

Outrigger tourist piece about 24" long with paper sale and paddle.

1971 Tonga Productions wall hanging with paper center, mint. Nice big piece.

Thanks for looking,

Paul

I haven't really found much of anything the past few months. I think Buzzy finds everything in SD County. BUT.... I did find these few things last week. A Pub Tiki Mug, a tiki candle, a seahorse mug and an Aku Aku platter!

Am I the only one who frequently gets "Error connecting to the database!" when I try to look at this thread?

A

me too

me three!

Only on this thread, no others

That only happens when the thread is at the end of the current page and is ready to kick over to the next page. You just have to click the previous page number on the menu and you get right back to the active page.

A-Ha!!! You're a pretty fart smeller DC! (I mean smart feller :D )

Picked this up a few weeks ago for 30 bones. Anyone got an idea when it was made, all help greatly appreciated!

I might find everything, but I only buy the cheap stuff...

This week's cheap stuff:

Maori Hei-tiki key hook hanger:

Maori bottle/can opener:

I have a bolo tie to match it. Now all I need is the letter opener version and I'll have the complete set.

October 84 National Geographic with a couple articles on the maori:

A few pages of Maori artwork:

I looked through the entire run of late 70's and 80's looking for this issue, and it was the second to last one I sorted through.

I also stumbled upon the King K issue from Nov 83.

tiki page:

A national Geographic survey book on the Isles of The South Seas:

Random tiki and artifact pictures throughout:

And finally, the most interesting piece I found this week:

A QSL card from a shortwave guy on Easter Island:

This was in stack of thousands from all over the world that a ham radio guy collected over his lifetime of radio contacts. I was quickly thumbing through them when this one popped up about 4 into the first stack I searched. These cards were exchanged when two ham radio guys would make a contact. the card would denote the time and other details about the contact. After making the contact, the two radio operators would exchange personal cards through the mail as a sort of log/diary of contacts. I quick internet search found a few with tikis on them, like this one:

I almost drove down to Atlanta a few weeks ago and picked these up. Glad to see they went to a good home.

Here's a few things I found today at the local flea market
A plastic resin shrunken monkey head, a clay pottery Aztec looking "tiki", a Hawaiian souveneer tiki by "Hip Originals" and a green glass tiki.

I also found this combo book and album for $1, that apparently was meant to document ones Hawaiian vacation. it has lots of cool pics . Does anyone know anything about it? Here is the cover and a couple of the inside pages.

Then this evening I get a call from a friend. He collects Automobilia, (I do too , but thats a different forum). he attended an auction at an out of business car dealer and bought a few boxes of auto literature and inside was these items, a foreign album from Tahiti and an 18inch souveneer surf board from a 1979 Datsun convention

I have this same book..as do a few others I know. Only know the basics about it but still cool nonetheless :)

Hey, Buzzy, I've had this book for a while now and it never occurred to me to look under the jacket. It looks way better without it!

Here are my summer finds:

I found 7 yellow "Hing Wah Imports" mugs at a garage sale. Looks like I've got some fillers for future mug swaps! Also, a nice, little wooden moai with great details; Orchids R-79; Harvey's painted mug (in pretty good shape!); and this primitive pop-looking decanter. I'm sure I've seen this on here somewhere but couldn't find it. There are no markings on it and the cork has broken and fallen inside. I'm just curious so if anyone has info, let me know...

Nice! Thanks!

Some good stuff yard sales this weekend courtesy of Treasure Craft, Kauai Resort, Tahiti Airlines, The Hungry Tiki Coffee Shop, and some god awful monkey pod tropical floral arrangement.

Thrift store finds for today. Not Bad for six bucks in my book.
