A few finds up here in Minnesota. I was excited to finally add the McGuire's Tiki room ashtray to my collection. The album by Rod's Bel-Airs and The Stan Gunn Trio Plus One recorded live at McGuire's before it was the Tiki room was an unexpected bonus.

Went to a garage sale in San Francisco CA and found ALL of this (except for the display things, had those already).
You can see the terrific Japanese glass fishing float. Twisted Tiki's carving, and "The Scream" like tiki in this pic, as well as the 18 mugs!

Detailed mug shot of Tiki Farm Mai Kai decanter, Tiki Farm Suffering Bastard decanter, Squid's Sqorpion Squll Bowl, Sam's Shrunken Head, Green Goon, Smugglers Cove Barrel (the one that says Munktiki at the bottom despite being made by Tiki Farm!), Warehouse Rum Barrel, Ocean's 11 Warrior Mug, Jungle Boy and Forbidden Island mug.

Detail of Martin mug, Double Headed Marquesan, Kula Tiki mug, Jivaro Shrunken Head, Tiki Farm Lucky Tiki

Detail of Hawaii Kai Tea/Coffee set (this one doesn't say Hawaii Kai New York on the back?), a Moai Circus Punk, the tiki carving that looks kinda like "The Scream", and two mugs I cannot identify and am hoping to get help with.

Has anyone ever seen anything like these before? The blue one has no marking aside from "El Angel" written on the back, it looks to be hand painted. The other one only has the sig at the bottom. Any help identifying these would be very much appreciated!

Also, the Hawaii Kai tea/coffee set, did a company like OMC or Orchids make copies of these? Just wondering why it's not marked, couldn't find unmarked ones online anywhere...

Glad to see there are still a lot of good items in the wild. For me, this is the longest stretch i've gone through without finding a single thing.

Portland thrift shop finds:

I never get to post in this thread because I dont consider myself a collector, butt once in a while I score on loot without even trying. when i got home from work today at the japanese cultural center there were prizes waiting for me. Look-y at what I got!!!!

a menu from the Starlite room at Chi Chi, palm Springs no date

a Matson line farewell dinner menu from Friday Nov 1 1935
with autographs inside

and a Don the beachcombers menu from possibly 1941

Scored this awesome witco fountain this week..... anyone know anything about it ?? sven ?? ken ?? .....

A couple of recent finds:
Wall hanging seahorses from early 60's, wood and razor-sharp airbrushed metal.
Carved covered bowl with "Hawaii". S&P shakers and coconut monkey with shell teeth.

Siestaware set in white, Nutsy bank, Coco Joe's and HIP, a pair of Accoutrement moai, Benihana Safflower mugs, Hall coconut, assorted swizzles, matching Hawaii cruet and S&P set, and a light peach Sailboat TV light with aluminum sails. Now to learn rigging...

Large Kava ladle? Carving matches the standard oversize fork and spoon sets, paint by numbers, framed piece, TV LV wahine mug, moai mug, bamboo Hawaii trays, S&P sets, cannibal highball and shot, Hawaii figures on a boat.

[edited to add older finds]

Some more finds that I haven't posted:

Hand painted Flamingo tray, Kappa Sigma Droopy tiki, nudie rum barrel mug and S&P, conch S&P, Maori tiki, Hawaii lamppost S&P, nude figurine with straw hat (feels more like ceramic then Coco Joe resin...)

Felt like this should have it's own post:

THRILLED to see 500 pages of Tiki Finds, and even more thrilled to be able to post THIS in it! Found in an antique mall outside of Omaha. NOW I am a real Tiki Collector! :)

You came to Omaha and didn't call me or Potato for a meet up at the Mai Tai Lounge?

Shame! :)

Super find though!

Chris

Yeah, sorry about that! It was a family get-together for a 90-year-old cousin of my Dad's. But yes, we did all have drinks at the Mai Tai!

Next time . .

scored just a little bit of bamboo from this seller I found near where I live early this morning..... incredible stuff, all in one place. I didn't take it all. I have no place to store it nor do I have a booth or shop to sell it out of..... but I did score a couple bamboo wall hanging shelf units for my tiki mugs. there was no bar nor were there any tiki mugs, carvings etc. - just bamboo furniture.

Here is the items I got from the sale above.... I went back today to get the 2 chairs and three end tables.... I got the shelves yesterday.... The big shelf unit used to have a thatched roof on it, that's why there are 2 different heights on it. It's so the roof can angle down forward. The roof was no where to be found. probably dried up years ago and fell apart. Only 4 tiny nail holes exist in the top where it was attached. looks like I'll have to rebuild it.

Great rattan score! Would love that circular shelf set. I am sure you got a great price too!

Sadly this is all I found today while thrifting. Don't worry..the 1.99 price was written on the plastic wrap and it was half price day so it only cost me $0.98. ;o)

SandraDee... Nice find! I'd love to come across one of those!

i'm really starting to dislike your cousin... and texas for that matter. three super rare s/p shaker sets in one fell swoop....

horrible, horrible find.....

WOW! BooBen scores. Great finds. I haven't seen a cousin in years. maybe I should look them up.

i know we all have 100 of theses in our own collection. but i found one in the box with the orignal price tag on it .. kind of cool

might do a run of shirts with this logo next week.. would be cooky

Here are some tikis I found at a market in Austin, TX last month. The woman's deceased husband had collected various primitive wood carvings, but these were the only tikis she had with her. They were in their living room while they had them & she said her husband had thought they were from "The Easter Islands". So the seller didn't have a clue where they came from. They look like they were outside and mounted somewhere at some point.

Any thoughts as to origin of the carving style, etc??, as I haven't seen anything quite like these before.

H

Not the very same, but this carving comes from the Philippines

The Tapa cloth and war club are from a friend of Mrs. Fury. Her father was a General during WW2 and she said that the items were bought when the family was stationed in Samoa in 1941.

Added appeal when you've history to go long with items you add to your collection.

From the last few months:

Unknown restaurant platter

Not an earth shattering find, but made my day to find this small Dynasty bowl.

My happy find this week: A small Dynasty bowl.

A cool lamp and a very cool promotional Maori club given to first class passengers on the inaugural flight of Continental airlines route from Los Angeles to Auckland on the 1st of May, 1979.

Did Continental staff this flight with its Polynesian Pub?

That is very cool!

I went back to the old hunting rounds a couple times over the holidays and picked up this stuff:

Maori bolo tie and canoe bailer:

Pair of Treasure Craft dancers:

Treasure Craft pineapple menehune with toothpicks:

Cryin' Moai candle:

Sea world coffee cup:

Schirman Nani:

Giant Coco Joe's Alii Gold Lono:

Buzzy Out!

Found three this weekend: Bamboo mug from Kauai Resort, 50th State mug and a Tiki Farm shot.

S

Buzzy those toothpicks are a real gem of a find!

across one of these in a quite some time.Be back soon with more finds.
Aloha-Billy

Found this similar piece, different design, missing the surfer. Made by "Tedick's Creative Trophies and Gifts" in Pearl City, Hawaii.

Anyone else seen these before?

Also found this vintage Pan Am print by Blackie Kronfeld...

MH

Aside from the rough Witco bar I posted in a separate topic things are slim for finds in south Florida. I did find this carving on Sunday that seems to be a recent tourist piece from NZ.

Here's a lamp I picked up recently.....

...and here it is after i cleaned, patched and repainted it in a red color scheme. Also replaced the fiberglass shade with a red one as well as the plug, cord and socket. Now it is ready for the tiki room !!

Had a good day today, United Airlines Ski the West Menehune, Deep Sea Diver mug and a couple other cool items. I don't have the space for the Menehune, so he will be going on ebay tonight.

MH

Deep Sea Diver mug and a couple other cool items.

What is a deep sea diver mug? sounds intriguing...

OK,here's one for the 'tiki sleuths',I can't find anything.
the framing is of an older style.and the signature looks like
'McBride to me,I could be, and, most likely am wrong on that.
it's 14"x20"
anyone?anyone?

Tiki David, that thing is awesome! I can't offer any insight, but I can certainly say I'm jealous!

I found this yesterday as a garage sale, it reminded me of a tiki version of "The Thinker". Would anyone have some insight as to origin?

[ Edited by: FacesPlace 2012-01-16 10:19 ]

I got nothin' compared to others' cool finds. Here's a newish hula girl mug produced for Norwegian Cruiseline.

T

Some fun matchbooks and coolest of all, original chopsticks from Don the Beachcomber Hawaii...

just what I needed!

Just got home with this Craigslist find about an hour ago :)
I love the people you meet when doing this sometimes, the seller was way cool. I happened to have a Hollywood Regency style chair in the back of my car and she ended up buying it.

I got these about a month ago. Apparently, they're from a travel agency in Waikiki that went out of business. All three have matching frames and they're professionally done.

1940's silky rayon Aloha shirt with "Pulelehuas," butterfly pattern.

Thanks for lookin'!

Congratulations. It sure is fun to find tiki treasure. Yesterday was super for us. We went to an Estate Sale and I got all but one tiki that was there. Here are some fun photos of the home and our finds. Cheers, Wendy

Their living room. Too bad that we have no room for furniture.

A bedroom with tiki things for having a party.

Where I found the treasures.

Note the name on the jacket.

Find number one.

Find number two.

The name matched the jacket. I didn't notice until I got home. No I didn't buy the jacket.

Find number three.

The one I missed gone before I got to the tiki room. Solomon Island???

Cheers, Wendy
