Here are some of my favorite finds from the last six months. All from thrift stores here in Victoria BC. 32" hand carved, we named him Steve. Punch bowl (leaks) kinda Tiki... two half shots 50cents each :) I Ula Tavatava. I need to do some more research on this one.... Doesn't look like a tourist item to me, but I'm no Fijian war club expert! Ive found lots more nifty Tiki stuff, but its kind of a PITA to post pics here  [ Edited by: Dagg 2012-09-30 12:30 ] |

I don't stumble across much tiki stuff in my part of the world - more likely to come across genuine Maori carvings than vintage tiki chic - but somewhere along the way I came across this string of lights. Still waiting to find the perfect place for them. |

SCORE on those Hawaiian Hut pieces! ...now YOU have to open a local watering hole with them :) This weekend I will attend a re-dedication ceremony of the original Maori hut that inspired some of the pieces at the Hawaiian Hut: http://www.nzembassy.com/germany/news/rauru-celebrates-its-centenary-in-hamburg |

Hey Buzz That storyboard in your last pic is awesome! What are the dimensions? Provenance if known? Looks too good to be an airport souvenir. Just what's the story on this board? |

PTD, did you ever find the chip that was broken off the back of that Shag Moai? If I knew that was you buying it, I would have said hi. You sure picked up that box quickly when my wife made a comment about it. No worries, you were there first, we just wanted to compliment you on finding it and not try to grab it out of your hands. |

Cool Manchu, In my many days of Tiki hunting, I have had my share of shoulder hoppers reach in a literally snatch items out of my hands or pick up items I was inquiring about. I wish you would have said something, would have been nice to finally meet you. Never went back to look, the chip can be repaired and we did find a few of the pieces. The lady I bought it from dropped it out of the box and I think we were looking for it when you came up. Got it for a really good price! Nui'umi'umi, I usually keep at least two mugs, just in case one gets broken! Dagg, Thanks...I have another one, with seahorses, it is nice to have this set of matching ones. Big Kahuna, I should but probably won't. Ceilings just cannot support the weight. SandraDee, No rumbles unless I have you with me to back me up!

PTD, I am just giving you a hard time. I knew exactly why you reacted how you did. It's truly dog eat dog out there some times. :) I was super happy to know that a TC'er got it. It's funny, the place is so big, that I only saw the small bowl you bought and missed everything else that you found...unless you found them before I went by them. I picked up a Tiki Farm mug (since I don't know much about them and haven't researched it yet, I don't know which one), an August Holland Pearl of Wisdom, a Lelani Luau bucket mug, a bamboo frame, two John Kelly menus (the one with the woman in yellow and the one with the couple holding the fish) and a Trader Vic's Aloha coconut mug. |

Ok, so I found one good thing about living in New England. There isn't much competition out here for Tiki stuff & I think I spend (waste) the most time scouring the landscape for relics of Poly Pop days gone by! |

Cool, I know what you mean. It can be pretty competitive at Alameda and in other areas. We are extremely lucky to have venues to hunt for the stuff we like. Sounds like you found your share of treasures as well. Curious to see the Tiki Farm mug and the bucket mug though? I know the guy who I bought the bowl from. He had the Oasis mug as well. The other items were found along the way. Rick, There is so much low hanging fruit here in Nor Cal you could literally have an instant collection of Tiki in just one day. The difficult thing is finding the more unique items. And you have to be in the right place at just the right time. I find more my second or third time through than the first. PTD |

Pretty jealous of everybody's haul! Alas, mine are a few scrapings of ephemera. Some given, some in the wild and some, yes, from the internet. Nevertheless, some pretty cool stuff I thought I would share. A cool old die cut menu from Ken Young's Hula Hut in Hollywood. New to me and my guess is from the 40s. A Tiki Ti matchbook was a cool find! Also, a couple 8X10s pics from a Don the Beachcomber luau in Hawaii. An ebay find of a 1978 press archive picture from the Denver Post of the "new" Trader Vic's opening at the Hilton.
My favorite though has to be these great souvenir pictures of a husband and wife tourist couple at a Hawaiian luau. Somebody is not in the Aloha mood!

Not really a "Tiki Find", but a magazine that I found years ago and scanned. Someone, who I do not recall blew up the image and printed it out on thick paper. After many years, I found it rolled up in a tube and finally had it framed. It's FATE Magazine from 1955, featuring "Hawaii's Living Fire Goddess" It measures 13" x 19"
