Aloha TJ
Nice one
Are you going to start a post in home tiki bars for the new build out?
If so, can't wait to see it

Cheers

Worst sound ever, slurp of an empty tiki mug through my straw!!!

No
I just took pics as I was playing it on a wall
:)

Ahhhhhhhhhh
Another Witco safe n sound
:)
You know it will not cost a fortune when price tag says
"Wood guy"
:)

Cleaned up great

Found these in the wild here in Austin this weekend (where it is rare to find anything at all) Don't know if the sticks are original they say Japan on the back would love to know what they say on the front side.

C

Killer find Mockingbird! Now I can finally see where Chris Pastras got his "tiki time" graphic.

70s and 80s slides

:)

mike and marie what a great find.

Mockingbird in 20 years of collecting I've never seen those before. Wonderful.

hang10tiki you bring tikis back that might have bit the dust. Just think how many times those carvings have been re-created after being eaten by the giant bees. That's a terrific Witco find and it's perfect in your room.

This is one of the best threads on TC. Wendy

Advert on local digital rag..

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/glen-forrest/collectables/tribal-art-asmat-dayak-bartak-african-p-g-/1144913187

..just up the road from me - willing to help anyone interested.

p.s. I realise this post may be counter to the intent of this particular thread,
but most would probably agree there is some cool stuff among this collection,
disregarding the African junk.

Also, with postage costs as they are, I'd imagine only serious collectors would
be interested, and perhaps only here in Australia.

If anyone were interested though, I'd be willing to follow up - gratis.
..I also have a large quantity of packing peanuts I'd like to shift - also free. :D

My Brother TikiVato gifted me the Mermaid mug. It’s from Phycho Suzi’s Ports of Pleasure

So, I've been crazy busy working on the sets for the local high school play, but in my prop hunting I made a couple fun finds;

I love my Ports of Pleasure mug, it always draws my eye in the midst of all the others on the shelf. I have yet to make it back to actually have the drink that is served in it however.

4 oz glass

Wish I could find the Rum to try
I guess I would need a passport to find it

Intriguing Jon. Only 100 bucks a pop in New South Wale. Cool glass none the less.
Keep up the hunt-your finds are awesome!

Seemed like a slow winter for me out there in the wild. I found an avg of 2 things per week over the last 2 months. Going 4 days a week, that means I struck out half the time.

Wood stuff: Bali Tiki, Hawaii Tongan Tiki, Bora Bora slit gong drum, two Kava Kava men, Crude carved candle holder referenced from a coco joes piece

I made friends with the VW van hippie book seller guy over the years, so now he does all my book hunting for me. Here are all his recent finds that he sold to me:

3 small tapas

matches, Matson ashtray, and a little tiki charm

Palau storyboard

Maori stuff

Islander mug

Stirrer sticks

Buzzy Out!

T

When your hunting for coins you bring a METAL Detector. When hunting for Tiki you bring a BUZZY Detector (-:

David- :)
Buzz- like dat slit drum

That is some strange mustard. It's in powder form and says to mix with beer or white wine!

Hope chest- I like that it's a wide mug, holds 16 oz :)

From a vintage surfboard collector...

In the mid-60's surfing was booming, being driven mostly by the gidget movies.

Many new surfboard companies wanted to get a piece of the action, so they created "pop outs". Basically the boards were "popped out" of a mold and fiber glassed. Very little craftsmanship, more production oriented to meet the demands. These boards usually had a wooden strip down the middle on the top of the board to make them resemble a standard board of the day. Many were sold at Sears and other large retailers.

Here is one that i thought you might like to see....
(footnote: the tiki brand also made belly boards)

Nic mug Jon.Here’s my recent acquisition from Trader Sam’s-3rd edition Zombie mug

Lft to Rht, 1rst ed, 2nd and 3rd, I have the original somewhere but could not find it for the pic.

Got this TikiFarm Bastard at Oceanic Arts,

Thanks. With the frame it's 34 1/2 inches wide and 27 inches long.

Hasty Honarkar, owner of the Royal Hawaiian in Laguna Beach gifted my wife and I this mug. Mahalo Hasty!

Got this MunkTiki Puffer at a Goodwill over the weekend.

I added this to The Islander thread, but I'm putting it in Tiki Finds to show that there is still incredible finds out there. I paid $65.80 for a Vicious Virgin Bowl at an antique shop in Reno on Sunday. It said, "nudie dish" on the tag.

:o

Cavemoai that is such a wonderful find. Congratulations. Wendy

Finally got myself a proper Mai Tai glass via eBay, which also happens to bring together some of my favorite things: tiki, Don Ho, and Cinerama.

Yesterday I visited the Margaret Mead Hall of Pacific Peoples in the American Museum of Natural History in New York. She curated and set up the displays, and it was filled with truly amazing exhibits. Without going into details which you can look up elsewhere on the web and on the museum's web site, let's just say it was an amazing display. I can't even compare it to the Bishop Museum's collection - the two are entirely different in a number of ways.

One surprise immediate reaction I had in the gallery --- it is suprising how different the authentic artifacts are from Polynesian pop. And the craftsmanship was amazing.

I took some photos of some fun "tiki finds" at the museum shops. It seems like everyone who visits the exhibit gets their picture taken with the big moai in the room, and it's therefore become quite well known. It seems that's why the gift shop has moai souvenirs.

Moai fridge magnet.

Laser moai acrylic paperweight.

Mini moais.

And next to the mini moais I found chocoloate moais.

Huggable plush moais.

Moai pins.

Moai keyrings.

Me with the famous moai in the exhibit.

Today, May 21, 2017, is the final performance EVER of the Ringling Bros circus
and it will be streamed live and free from here on Long Island in New York.
Go to https://www.ringling.com/ for streaming information.
