I saw a figure like the white one in the middle with the round eyes yesterday. Can anyone tell me where it's from?

Haiti, or one of the other Caribbean islands close to it.

Look up "Taino wood carving" on google images

Made a stealth journey to the Kahiki Outback, looking for lost artefacts of the Great Midwestern Sapp-Morgan Dynasty. Did see a few native mugs labeled "No. 1" in one of the area shops. Most of the antique shops and thrift stores were devoid of even the slightest hint of the Polynesian pop era that once dominated the area, but we did hit the lucky jackpot of finding a number of beautiful tikiskip originals...

"Most of the antique shops and thrift stores were devoid"

There is a guy here who has at least a few stores call him when they get ANY tiki stuff so it never hits the floor.

That's kinda duchy I think.

I never find tiki here, It was great to see you guys again.
Hope to see you again soon.

BB

Hit up a town-wide yard sale this last weekend and scored a couple items. Wasn't expecting any tiki in such a tiny backwater, but just goes to show you can never overlook hunting opportunities.

Pair of mini bamboo easels.

Nice mask carving, first one I've seen in this area that's not buck-toothed and tricked out in ten different colors.

By "Nony"

Just as we were leaving town I saw this nice old metal torch leaning against a porch. Maybe not so primitive, but certainly more weather-hardy than its bamboo-pole cousins - and it looks suitable next to Mo' and the deck. $1!

And now we have fire!

(and yes, that is indeed a field of spearmint)

Quite. Where's the thrill of the hunt when you've got your "finds" spoon-fed to you? That's just hoarding.

Found these yesterday at a flea market and thrift store, respectively.

New stuff

Pointy Tahitian Tiki Stick

Here's my Pointy Tahitian Stick collection

Trio of OMC Moai: One unmarked, one from the Tikis with the phone number, and the brown one is from Trader Dicks

HIP King K profile

Some matchbooks

4' x 4' tapa

The Book of Bundi

Buzzy Out!

BB

Found at a local flea market that's been productive for me over the years.

Marwal chalkware bust:

Puka chandelier/mobile:

May see if I can't light this one up!

Buzz- nice sticks

BB

Couple of treasures unearthed this weekend, mostly Hawaiiana.

CocoJoe's "Lucky" Menehune (#258)

Souvenir spoon from '79

Sawyer's Model G View-Master, with accompanying reels including the 1959 Hawaii 3-reel set

Finally, this mask.

Randomly unearthed at a Cub Scout rummage sale. Have not been able to narrow down its origin. At times it looks like it's Asian, sometimes African, sometimes Indonesian. None of the above? At any rate it feels at home amongst the collection. The (faded) red cloth was a later addition, but one that's been with it for many years. The damage to the mouth looks old as well. Could see new life as a sconce?

Today was a good day.

Found another glass float. About 7 inches. Confusingly labeled as a "witches float."

My first piece of Frankoma tiki - locally sourced, even. T7 Coconut mug in Prairie Green.

Cool finds, everyone!
Bam Bam - I'm sure there must be a veiled Monty Python reference in the witches float. :)
Pickings have been pretty slim around here for the past 6 months or so. Finally broke the logjam few weeks ago:

Carved wall hangings - about 23" long. Need some clean-up.

Lampshade - about 15" diameter.

I had a rather productive day in Minneapolis yesterday and found a few things I'd been looking for:

L-to-R: Cocoa Joe's Pahu Puke Ku bookend, Cocoa Joe's tiki bottle opener, Tihati's Bora Bora'e bamboo mug from Hawaii.

Here's a shot of Pahu Puke keeping my arcane volumes of Tabu Tiki Knowledge upright.

In non-Tiki collecting, I also spotted a Tretchikoff "Blue Lady" print, nicely framed, but the seller wanted a ridiculous sum for it, so I passed.

New stuff

PNG guy i got from tikishaker

tahitian tiki slit gong drum

my current collection of slit drums, toeres, and a decorative ukulele from tahiti

Storyboad I got from hbtiki roger.

Pair of Guam pieces

I bought three of these, and got the other at the Reef last week

matchbook

Blury mini Maori mask photo not worth retaking

Buzzy out!

Witco and a small carving that looks familiar but I can't place it.

BB

Found a few items while traveling through NJ this weekend.

Orchids of Hawaii unnumbered matte black Ku mug (R-70 variant?), an unmarked Orchids R-72 lookalike with teeth (possibly by Bamboo of China), a slightly-stained paperback copy of Tiki Road Trip, and a set of Steve Crane Kon-Tiki shakers.

Some new stuff

Woven PNG mask made from a turtle shell

Cheap records: Surfers album was thrashed so i framed it. I got the Martin Denny because of the drum pic on the back. Probably wont listen to it...

bali hai matchbook

Pair of Danger girl comics with tikis on the covers

Pair of framed Mattson reprints

Set of 4 Fiji tapa printed material pieces

Some decor stock. 8 3 x 5 fine woven Samoan 'ie toga mats

7 x 15 foot fine woven back to back mat

Buzzy Out!

I founf this tiki por sale in our local second hand site. I actually had to ride to Belgium (30 minute) to pick him up. The lady bought it ones from the carver in Germany. Is marked on the back as KTA (krazy tiki art). His about 1,20 mts told.

Not "finds" but birthday gifts

The glasses have a slightly different design than the one I picked up at Oceanic Arts a couple of years ago.

I got that Tahitian Drum mug during my only TV visit and it's one of my favorites!

Found this guy at an antique store in Seattle earlier this summer. He's been kicking it by the koi pond ever since.

Pulled these out of Waikiki

Marked “International Market Place Waikiki” on the bottom
And
“Kau Kau Village” on the side

Worst sound ever, slurp of an empty tiki mug through my straw!!!

I found this summer in a flea market in France a vintage Marquesan woden tiki lamp with " Tahiti" incised on the base and a small marquesan tiki what looks like a tourist souvenir.

T

@ Fran!

That lamp is kliier. Awesome find

Scored a Nui Nui mug from Hawaiian Village Tampa this weekend. Found waaay up in northern Michigan. These mugs are hard to find with remnants of the original cold glaze paint intact so this was a good score.

Very nice Unka T.
Congrats!

BK

Great find, Trav! Nice to see you’re still at it!

This piece has been sitting in a pawn shop here for at least two years since i first saw it. I was finally able to talk him down to a price i was happy to pay. When i first saw it i was expecting it to be made out of resin so it was a pleasant surprise to find it was carved from wood.

A couple recent acquisitions...

Robbie-BoozeHound,
Really nice finds. Amazing detail on all three pieces.
Mahalo for sharing

S

I have nowhere whatsoever to put this but there was no way i was leaving it behind.
