BTW, when you rewire it, do yourself a favor and replace the bulb socket as well. Only $3 and well worth it. I just rewired one of mine this afternoon 8)

Pretty amazing what you can find in the Northeast. All of these things came from Maine, New Hampshire or Massachusetts. At one time we had a lot of Tiki bars in this area. And yes, Pea Soup Andersons's had a tiki mug, at least this one anyway.

Pretty amazing what you can find in the Northeast. All of these things came from Maine, New Hampshire or Massachusetts. At one time we had a lot of Tiki bars in this area. And yes, Pea Soup Andersons's had a tiki mug, at least this one anyway.

Just in case you don't know. Andersen's is just off of Rte 101 about 40 minutes north of Santa Barbara. Buellton is the "gateway" to Solvang a Danish town--yes, Danish town--in California. Andersen's is famous for its split pea soup.

I have no idea why a Danish soup restaurant has a tiki mug.

This outrigger (over 4 ft. in length) hung in Minnie's for over 50 years. It had over 50 years of dust on it too. I should have bottled it and put it up on e-bay.

Cleen, okay I'll stop. They broke my piggybank anyway. Besides you could always go for the new brightly colored Jimmy Buffet style paintings, ahem, (since most of the velvets are gone).....or the tikis I carved or the expertly mixed fresh fruity concoctions.

WHAT in heaven happened to the velvet nudes? They had a singular collection, it made the place! Is it really becoming devoid of authentic Polynesian pop like that? Someone here just lauded it as an "untouched, old style" Tiki bar...

BigBro, there was a break-in last year. It took the cops 30 minutes to respond. Fear won. Meaning, sell some stuff just in case. There are still some Tyree velvets remaining. If you didn't know, I'll announce it, Minnie's has been for sale for quite some time. No takers. It's old, old, old. Upgrading is expensive. But oh what a dream it could be.

The other thing about the outrigger is that the fine etchings shown in the image were never seen by anyone except the person who carved it cuz that side was hung tilted up towards the ceiling. Same with the Chinese musical instruments. It was so dark nobody even knew they were there hanging right above our heads.

Last weeks stuff:

A older set of wooden male and female tikis:

They're pretty big too. About 13" tall and 5" wide.

A male and female set of Trader Vics Menehunes, minus the sticks:

I saw a shoe box full of matches. I ran my hand across the top and out pop two old Bali Hai matchbooks. Before I dug through the rest, I asked how much for the matches. I ended up buying the whole box for $5. A couple stalls down, I find a bigger box and repeat the run of my hand through it to see what comes up recon pass. Immediately up pops a Trader Vic's BHills book. I ask how much and the guy says two bucks for the whole box. this was like a ream of paper size box half full. I take it, and spend the rest of the day digging.
The final tiki matchbook find tally:
Two Bali Hai matchbooks and a BHills Trader Vic's...

...and three Wan Qs. If Wan Qs sounds familar, it's because it was mentioned on pg 62 of BOT


At least there were some tiki matches in there. :roll:

We had mugs like these in my house growing up, and they came from a Japanese steakhouse in St. Louis. I think that the Benihana chain has a drink that comes with this as the souvenir glass. (We also had a cat and a geisha girl from the same place.)

Found this mismatched pair of salt & pepper shakers yesterday. Don't know anything about the little brown guy, but the tan one is Trader Vics, of course. I suppose these were easy to steal from TV's, and that's why we find more of them around than TV mugs?

The little brown guy is from Don the Beachcomber's, should be some illegible writing on the front and side base of the shaker.

Something I haven't seen before...




Next to the Islander mug, I spotted this with what appeared to be a shell with a lid. The lid has a hole in it for a straw. I turned it over to find a gold foil OMC sticker on the bottom and embossed on the bottom Otagari 1982. Anyone seen this before?

I have, I found two of them which i later sold to cheektiki, there more condiment holders than tiki mugs, the hole is for a spoon rather than a straw.

Aloha All, I received this little guy for a B-day present last night and was just wondering if maybe someone here may know anything about him.. He's about 6 1/2" tall, I think a plastic resin, heavy piece for the size, with a cutout on the top that looks like for a votif candle? No engrave markings but on the bottom in marker it has two initials in marker "TV"... I think my sis in law was thinking trader vics...she bought it a saver's store.. MAHALO !

Cool piece but not Trader Vics. I think you will find this mark a wax crayon "IV" used at Value Village to mark their prices on the items. This is used as a code for the price when the paper price labels are missing so the cashier knows how much to charge.

Found this framed hardwood tiki at the flea market today and bought it for my son. We would like to know something about it. It is about 20X24. There is writing on the back that includes "1958". Any info will be appreciated.

Salt & Pepper shakers, not sure what the thing on the right is but sort of tiki?

Last but not least the mugs... Green one is unmarked, the Kon Tiki one is from Bob Lee's Islander & the other is the Hawaiian Hut. Oh and a Maori plate the back has history/information.

One bucket Mug from Bill Lee's Bamboo Chopsticks and one bucket mug from one of my favorite bars - The Tonga Room! This Tonga Room bucket mug though is standard size and not the slim version. Last but not least, a cool little tea cup from Don the Beachcomber.
