Hey Buzzy, Saturday I saw the twin to the poi bowl/scoop you found at the local Goodwill. I flipped it over and saw a stamp, if I remember right, it was a date from 1965, but what really surprised me was a sticker that said "made in Kenya" ! The wood and carving looked straight out of the Philippines, any markings on yours?

It has half a sticker on the back that reads "Made in Philippines". The distributor's name is missing. Maybe some unscrupulous dealer once tried to up the exotic factor on yours and had an extra Kenya sticker lying around?

And, glad to know that one piece is PNG. It was amongst a big pile of random African carvings...

I also picked up a mini lizard skin drum that looked way out of place in a jeweler's display case:

I usually don't buy stuff that I can't identify, but a lizard skin mini drum was too cool to pass up, even if it turns out it came from Ugoslavia.

Anyone out there know where it's from?

If it helps, it looks similar in style and wood type to this alligator I got a few years back:

Does anyone know anything about the alligator's origin as well?

My unrefined eye thought it was Maori when I bought it. I now know that's definitely not the case.

Zombie glass from the Honolulu in Westboro, Mass.

A Momotaro mug from the Royal Hawaiian in Burlington, Mass. A search of this mug produced only 2 results, both from the TIki Hut in Billerica, Mass. Was this ugly thing used anywhere but Mass.? Mine has a nice, clean OMC sticker on the bottom. Just wondering.

This is everything I've found over the last several weeks. Instead of taking a pic of individual stuff, I just I would post one pic of my little, humble, collection. There is tiki in the "wilds" of Indiana! lol :wink: Man, I sure need a sweet bamboo shelf to put these on! I better start "hunting"...

Buzzy: The alligator carving and the finger drum are from the Trobriand Islands. They are part of PNG, so your hope was right.
The wood is Kwila with Mother of Pearl insets. The smooth finish on the wood comes from rubbing with a pig's tusk.

Hi.

Picked this up off of Craig'sList just now where the person selling it said it was an African mask, but it's Maori right?
Right??!!

Does Africa have a mask factory I don't know about where they carve masks in styles from around the world?

The sticker is off the back of course. I paid more than I normally would because it goes with my pole that I'm carving.

My brother Tikivato brought this stuff back from Reno for me. We have another brother who retired there. Occasionally, he'll find "stuff"for me or Tikivato. The mugs are common Trader Dick's. TV and I have most of the mugs put out by Trader Dicks-They're a dime a dozen up there. we're both reluctant to tell him to stop for fear we might miss out on a possible gem. For example -the genuine Tiki stone shown with the Mugs and the Ku. It's approx. 5" x 2 1/2". Looks to be made of polystone. The script is drilled out with a small bit. Who would wanna pass that up?

Here are my recent finds . Elvis was from an estate sale and the Hawaiian Open decanter was a thrift store (Savers) find. Elvis has a music box below his feet that plays "Blue Hawaii"

Today's finds at the local Savers. Seems the prices are rising-almost paid antique store rates for the ladies. THey look to be older as opposed to being recently manufactured and were mfg'd/distributed by "BIP Hawaii". The Mug made by "Lee' in Hawaii was only a few bucks and the coconut "warrior was not much more. I vowed years ago not to buy anymore coconut critters but dis one was different.

Found this "tiki torch" as I blasted outta Palm Springs this afternoon. I bought him cuz he reminded me of the Kelbos mug. When I compared the two at home -not even close. He's fiberglass and I know nothing else about him

My collection so far. I started about a year ago. I didn't realize finding tiki mugs and statues would be so hard. My wife and I hit thrift stores and antique malls fairly frequently and Hawaiian stuff is rare. Some of it is new commercial stuff, some of it is vintage, some of it is not even Hawaiian but I thought it was cool anyway.

Actually, that's my garage. It's supposed to be a man cave that's tiki themed. I still need to finish emptying out junk from the garage. I plan on covering the walls with bamboo. The tap tower is functioning. I think that given the cost of things, it might be a few years before it's finished.

What items would you not want to own? I'm guessing the fake tiki torches.

Actually, I cannot resist even the most remotely tiki items. Sometimes my remarks are tongue- in- cheek.Our children are grown (we're empty nesters) and my Tikiqueen has allowed me to convert an extra bedroom into a tiki room. The tiki room is full-layers and layers of finds and much stuff in boxes. I have a tiki bar outside (seats six) but most of my stuff is in boxes awaiting somewhere to be displayed. My wifes brothers just completed a huge wooden patio for us. Most of it is protected from the rain and sun so I gots me a clean slate to tikify. It's got the classic California look with one freaky touch on the outside. It has an "A-frame" facade facing the pool.As soon as the skylights are in place I intend to start posting pix in "home tiki bars".
I did not mean to come off as critical in any of my comments on your collection. I liked it all!

"Found"this Witco inspired carving at Don's Int. Markertplace today. It's the perfect finishing touch for this buffet/bar that I made last year. I guess I didn't really find it since Hottiki made me pay him for it. Since he carved it and Hottiki is a lot over six foot tall, I agreed that he should be compensated although I think I got the longer end of the sick. Thanks Hottiki,your art is amazing.

Aloha! I am working on a tiki bar in my home and I just found this table/cabinet in an antique store in Santa Barbara over the weekend. The cabinet looks like it will hold about ten bottles of rum. I think it is a great find! Has anyone seen another one or anything like it? Thanks!
