Finds from the wild:

L-R: postcard from Kona Kai Inn, Dumas, TX, Kona Kai swizzle, Al Harrington mug, Maori carving

Finds NOT from the wild:

Today's finds:

I found an instant reference library

...and this crappy made in China mug:

If you recognize this mug, and would like to know which insignificant variation it is, here it is next to the one I found a couple weeks ago.

Features are a little deeper on the new one and it's darker.

Wow! The bottom is different too!

I went to lunch at Islands with my mom today and "found" these.

Last week I found this, and since I couldn't find it anywhere else on TC, I'll post what I found out about it since then:

A reliable source told me it's the Tiki Farm Ocean's 11 handled Dental Mug (#BA004OE) and there were under 200 total produced.

Turned upside down it looks like a guy with a pierced---- about to----his own----. I think it's because he can.

Buzzy Out!

Great scores Buzz! Those "Oceanic Art" and "Art of The Pacific" books are two of my absolute favourites on my reference shelf. Brian Brake's photos (in the NZ one) are just incredible - the guy had a rare talent for photographing artifacts. It's worth a good chunk of change here too, as it's been OOP for so long. If anyone is interested, Reed's have republished many of his Maori art photos in this book

Only the mind of Buzzy could do what you did with that last pic. Thanks, I'll have that stuck in my head all day now

I have a single one very similar to these, but without the bowl-like top of the mug-part, and a matching wooden mug that goes along with it. Always thought it was a giant ladle for a huge punch bowl...

Bay Park,

You mean to tell me even the Ocean's 11 stuff is ending up in shops in California? Damn. We Texas Tikiphiles have NO chance whatsoever.

It only made it as far as the back of a truck at the swap meet before I got it. I bought a couple other things from the same vendor, and he asked me if I liked Hawaiian stuff too. I said yes and he started digging around in some boxes in the back of his truck. He pulled out four mugs, all of which he wanted $5 for. I almost passed because they were so expensive.

The rest of this weekends stuff:
A Schirman lava piece and a Hawaii pen holder:

Kealoha, marked c. Frank Schirman 1967

A Moari fish plate:

Signed by Ruihana, dated 1981.

The only thing that I found about Ruihana was that it was an artists cooperative in Rotorua

Buzzy Out!

Scored these today at an antique store..$5 for the pair. No markings below or behind, so it's kinda hard to place/date them. They're definitely not new though.

Found this yesterday at a local goodwill - I have no idea why I decided to dig through a stack of Bobby McGee's ceramic bathtubs - I guess this guy was calling out to be rescued...

Anybody have any info on this? I did a web search, and searched the forum, but to no avail...

The bottom is just marked Daga - I am familiar with their stuff, just never seen this particular style.

Thanks for any help...

K

Daga was/is in the restaurant supply business, so they made ceramic vessels in many shapes - not just tiki. I have Daga mugs shaped like a cactus, sleeping mexican, and an engine block, in addition to many small brown coffee mugs with a seeming limitless number of restaurant logos. They were very productive back in the day.

As you probably know, the Hale Koa is the military R&R hotel located at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki. I imagine that bathtub mug is just a knockoff of the Bobby McGee's mug, as Bobby McGee's was so unbelievable popular in the '70s. I have no idea what kind of drink was served in those mugs, or how they even got to your table - they look designed to slosh!

I need some help identifying these two buggers.

I picked them up at a thrift shop in Albuquerque.

While the designs are classic, I have never seen these colors before. They are marked on the side with "Shang Hee" but I couldn't find anything online about that name.

They also have flat bottoms.

If you have any idea of the origins of these guys, please let me know.

..sb

Ouuuch, take that away, it hurts my eyes.... :D

Obviously some cheap Fu joint's attempt to copy these Otagiri classics by making molds of the original mugs.

Did you see the Pub Tiki thread? The font on your shakers looks a lot like the one on the single shaker in that thread, which also has a link to this group of Pub Tiki items on ebay...

Same font again, and the toothpick holder tiki appears to be the same design as your shakers?

Those are amazing SBiM... I don't know anything about them but my favorite mugs are always the colorful fun ones! Heck, anyone can make a brown mug but you have to be awfully daring to go bright yellow & is that really purple or more blue?

Great find! Tikisgrl

Oh, it's purple.
I'll give you that one if you want it. I owe you!

Wow!! Thanks for your good eye! I love digging up clues about where stuff is from. More research ahead!

Which Goodwill did find those great scores at? I need to contact them to let them know they aren't cherypicking their stuff enough! The Goodwill stores in California know better than to put tiki anything out on their shelves!

Psycho Tiki D (I know I am and Goodwill in CA is Goodwill for Goodwill)!

ONe was 49c and one was 89c.

I think that the yellow one might be a Toby mug? Here's a link to my greenish one

Toby?

Yup.. identical. OTher than the signature. :)

Thanks!

Today I scored two of the frosted, short, Polynesian VIllage (Disney) tiki glasses @ 3.00 each (pre "polynesian resort" conversion, with the wee head-dress polynesian critter on the logo), and four Kona Kai swizzles (with the tiki that matches my big mug on it) as well as a "plausible" tiki mug.. not vintage, but a blue mug, with two bands around the bottom, and a bowl top.

Also scored about 30 vintage "other" swizzles, and a cutty-sark bar ad napkin holder.

I found this nicely carved Maori box today now I just have to figure out what to put in it.

put your stash in it, man. nice find.

Got skunked last couple of days, but managed a few things today. So here's all this weeks stuff:

I found another Moai tissue box cover and another Tiki farm Headhunter mug

It's been a good month for these two particular items in the wild

The same guy that had all the Maori carvings I bought a few weeks ago had this stuff today

A carved wooden Moari bolo tie and two Air New Zealand pendants, one of which is still in its original wrapper.

Here are the backs of the pendants and bolo tie

Here is the wording on the informative tag which came with the pendants:

And finally, a Coco Joes ashtray:

A couple of the weekend finds. Set of Disney s&p shakers, Don Beachcomber feature matches and an Enchanted Tikiroom post card.

its been a while for some finding posts but I thought I'd put these guys up and maybe get some help dating the Trader Vics Salt and Pepper shakers - Grey vers.

They appear to be smaller in size to more current orange S&Ps I bought at Trader Vics recently. These are marked from Japan while new ones are Taiwan. and finally the Letter S and Letter P are made out of holes on top, while the more recent shakers have S and P in the mold and three holes for Pepper and 2 for salt. Any help?

the stirrers / swizzles yellow is Contental to Hawaii with a pineapple and the blue moai tiki - I have a no clue???

I finally started taking some pictures of my tiki finds. I found this at the antique fair in Alameda earlier this month.

Swapmeet finds for Sunday
CCJ Hulagirl plaque, 3 Png carved napkin rings and a carved Monkeypod Leaf platter. Aloha, Freddie

While at home recovering from Tiki Kon the UPS man brought me this

1963 Kay Good of Hawaii ceramic punch bowl, 6 mugs, and ladle. The mugs are a touch bigger than a Harvey's bucket.

Other than mugs which I posted on Ooga-mooga, here are some recent thrift finds.

Scored these two masks & funky black stone Tiki at my favorite hunting grounds, a couple of weeks ago:

This past weekend, I scored this hand-carved Warrior Ship & this ultra cool bamboo print. I had been watching & debating over the ship for two months! I couldn't decide if I thought it was Tiki enough. Then, I saw a similar wall mount version on the wall at Tahiti Joe's in Vegas & I was lucky it was still there when I went back!
While I was there getting the ship, I spotted the print for 10 bucks! Had to have that too. The ship was $35.00 when I first saw it, but, when I went to get it, it was 30% off so I got it for $24.50. The artist did sign it on the other side.

I think Sharted a little when I saw the Tumbler pic.

Probably the best find yet. You'll have to talk story for us at some point.

Well done!
