My finds from today...

Two early Coco Joes lava tikis, two small Coco Joes Hapa Wood tikis, two black Moai mugs from the Leilani, Luau, Fresno CA, pair of old Trader Vics S&P shakers and a green OMC Moai mug.

PTD

Great finds. If you don't mind my asking, where did you find them? Thrift stores, garage sale, antique store, etc?

Thanks

Timmerk,

85% of what I find comes from the local flea market. 14% comes from antique shops/stores and maybe 1% from thrift stores. Occasionally I do find items on Craigslist, but not too often.

Beth,

Wow, great scores from you lately! Nice group of postcards there.

PTD

Hi I found these things today. Glasses from Trader Vics I think. The fork with the tiki is made of copper and brass very heavy. Don't know anything about it. Cheers! and Happy collecting,

Great score... ONE of those green glasses just sold on ebay for $76, at that rate you just scored about $450 worth of glasses!

BK

Hey, Beth. If you check page 249 of Tiki Finds, you'll see the plate from Pacific Hut that I found. My summer finds are on the way! Camera is finally working again!

T

an awesome plate from Pacific Hut, I guess there were 2 locations in Brockton & Burlington, Mass, but I never knew.:

Well now you know it was not a myth that this place really existed & I have the postcard to prove it!

Pictures soon can't wait so I can be jealous again!

Tikisgrl

BK

Okay, here goes! My summer finds! Paper First:
A Hawaiian International Cookbook, Hawaiian Party Book & a nice Trader Frank's Exotic Recipe Book.

Hawaiian travel brochure with a nice fold-out map & "Let's Have A Luau!" by Orchids of Hawaii complete with a blank order form!

Next, a nice pair of Coco Joe's Hula Girls:

I always manage to find something at the Hot Rod shows I sell at:

BK

Now, I must thank PTD for working out a trade with me! Here are the mugs he traded me:

Thanks again, PTD! I'll be in touch!

BK

My favorite hunting ground did not let me down this summer:
Complete Outrigger mug set in mint condition:

Nice King Humanahumana statue!

Some common mugs, some not so common, ( the one to the left of the pineapple says Mai Kai on the back):

More to come!

BK

More from my favorite spot:
I was psyched to score the Hawaiian Inn mug & the S&P's have an Orchids of Hawaii label on the bottom!

Now I need a virgin to sacrifice!

I guess this ceramic shell bowl isn't really Tiki, but it's going on the top of my bar to hold my Tiki matchbooks. It's probably my favorite find since the Polynesian Pigeon. The pix don't do it justice. The glaze is absolutely beautiful! Anyone seen anything like it? The only marking is 1124 in small raised numbers on the bottom.

BK

Last & certainly least, my measly Brimfield score:

I passed on a few over-priced mugs & Coco Joe's, as well as, a set of peanut S&P's. I did, however, get a lead on a nice rattan couch that would finish off my furniture hunt. If I get it, I'll be sure to post it! The rest of my Brimfield finds will be posted in Beyond Tiki Finds!
Oh! I almost forgot. I made a trade with a friend for this kool wooden fish dish. I don't know what it is or how old it is, but I really liked it so we worked a deal. Anybody have any thoughts?

HOK

The hut looks similar to ones I've seen on storyboards from Yap and Palau......Aloha, Freddie

Hey Kahuna,

Where did you find that Mystic Swami napkin holder!?!

I've been looking for one for years..

Nice scores!

Cheers!

Rick

BK

I included that in the pics for PTD's benefit. I noticed a similar one in some of hos pics. I must confess, I scored that on fleabay. Half of my room is Tiki & the other half is Hot Rod/Kustom Kulture/Diner! I'll post pics of the whole thing as cleanup & redecorating progress.

Got it right away, and by the way, nice finds for the summer you have there!

Not to go too far off topic, but I saw a Swami Fortune Teller a couple of months ago at the antique show for $35.00. The trick is to find them with their keys and paper fortunes...

One thing for certain, the Swami never lies...try and fool it sometime.

PTD

BK

Got the keys & a big stack of fortunes!

Not you just need this one.... but beware..

Sweet! Nice display too! Is that an original or repro. Either way, the answers are always the truth!

PTD

Nope, it's a repro from a guy who also made a Lost in Space robot. Looks easy to make...

Just a few items I got from my b-day:

Three Norwegian Cruise Line mugs and b-day cards.

Four PMP mugs and "Happiness is a Dry Martini" by Johnny Carson.

EB

Just checked ot a thrift-store in Little Rock, nothing found except this. But for 3 bucks its quite nice...

LT

Frankoma Widow Maker in Cinnamon from The Cultured Pearl, Tulsa OK.

Purchased this from an interesting fellow living in an area of Arkansas not too far from Tulsa. He told me he is a friend of the Synar family of Synar Pottery and met John Frank in 1957-58 when he (Mr. Frank) purchased Synar, which then became Gracetone Potteries.

LOL Tiki!

[ Edited by: LOL Tiki 2008-09-15 14:57 ]

No tiki to speak of except for some shots on the covers, but quite a haul on the music front today...

"Taboo" The Exotic Sounds of Arthur Lyman.

"Taboo II" The Exotic Sounds of Arthur Lyman.

"Bwana a" More Exotic Sounds of Arthur Lyman.

"Hawaiian Sunset" The Sounds of Arthur Lyman.

"Exotica" The Sounds of Martin Denny. Two more copies today.

"Exotica II" The Exciting Sounds of Martin Denny.

"Exotica III" The Exciting Sounds of Martin Denny.

"Romantica" The Lush and Exciting Sounds of Martin Denny.

Maritn Denny's Exotic Sounds From the "Silver Screen".

"Afro-Desia" The Exotic Sounds of Martin Denny.

Martin Denny's "Exotic Precussion".

Martin Denny "Latin Village".

I'll be back to post the Hawaiian and other Exotica soon!

PTD

Part two...

PTD

LT

Looks like you hit a mother-lode. That Thunderball album cover is great! Is it just my imagination or am I seeing the same one or two girls on all of the Martin Denny album covers?

Hey PTD, nice haul.
That Ports of Paradise pull out book is pretty nice... cool graphics and images. The album is nothin to write home about but the format of the album jacket and book make up for it.
Aloha,
:tiki:

I've been thinking of showing off all my album covers... I have about everything I've seen except White Goddess... that is my holy grail at least for now! Some day I'll find it at a goodwill store for 25 cents, I just know it!

Here is today's finds...

Tonga Lei Polynesian Restaurant, Malibu matches.

Funky painting wood carved tiki.

Yet another Stockton Islander earring mug, along with the Islander Moai bug-eyed mug and a PMP short handled mug.

Finally found the medium sized OMC Hula girl bowl. Saw two for $40.00 each and passed on them. This one was more in my price range. They look good together.

Moai salt and pepper shakers from Johnny Yee's Route 28, Cape Cod, Mass.

Skull mug from Tiki Bob's marked San Francisco on the bottom.

A nice velvet, but I need help with the signature?

Not sure of the origin of this piece? The paint is really dry and coming off by just touching it. Anyone know?

Thanks for stopping by!

PTD

It was a good day for shirts.

PTD

Err... PNG as in Papua New Guinea!

It's a beautiful piece, great find!

And great record scores too, I so rarely find any that I've pretty much stopped looking for nice covers/music I don't have yet.

Great shirts tiki kate! I especially like the one with the large scale print in greens, browns and gold with with big pineapple on it. The neon one really cracks me up! Very cool.

Wow PTD...nice record haul. (Ooooh, Thunderball sountrack...kewl.)

K

Found a little something in the vase section at the thrift store:

I couldn't believe it - I just kept saying "This is impossible", then noticed a woman next to me staring at me like I was a nut. Maybe I am.

I have never seen a Mauna Loa mug in person, but I knew what it was right away. In great condition, even still has the sticker on the bottom.

What is a Mauna Loa drum mug doing in a thrift store in Hawaii? Maybe my best wild find ever.

Felt the same way when I found my Polynesian Pigeon! Great score!

Everything I got this week was crap, but it was all real cheap!

This is my least favorite piece Cocojoe's ever made:

Keeping with the "Hawaiian lovers" theme, a Schirman plaque:

Real used float.

Hawaiian canvas giclee print

detail with a bunch of glare on it.

KC votive candle holder

A mug from a sorority party in '87

An omc bali hai with no lid and a chip on it:

At least it has the sticker...

One of these:

Buzzy Out!

Thanks Tikiwahine,

I was pretty sure it was a PNG, but was wondering if it was old and if there is a story behind the design.

The records seem to be everywhere right now. Not sure why, but this is an untapped area of collecting in my area for some reason.

Really nice score on the drum mug, the Aloha shirts and of course, Buzzy, nice finds!

Finally ran across one of these little Tiki Hibachis. Still has the interior cup and the grill rack.

The other things I found on this trip were all sort of travel education oriented. First are 5 different film strips in their cannisters. I remember our teachers back in elementary school would sometimes use these sort of things in class. I don't know if I have the proper slide projector to view these but I held them up to the light to make sure I had the right ones in each container.

I also found these two hardback books. They are from a series called Guided Tours of the World - a colorslide travel program by PANORAMA.

Here you can see the 2 slide panels and the record which accompanies each book. I have no idea what kind of viewer is required to see these slides but it hardly matters because each slide appears in the book as a print.
The South Seas book is narrated by George Sanders who I remember as Mr. Freeze of the Batman TV series in the 60's.
The Hawaii book is narrated by Arthur Godfrey.

Next I have a scan of the best 2 chapters in the South Seas book. Oh, these books are copyrighted 1960 and 1961 respectively.
