Great finds. If you don't mind my asking, where did you find them? Thrift stores, garage sale, antique store, etc? Thanks |

Timmerk, 85% of what I find comes from the local flea market. 14% comes from antique shops/stores and maybe 1% from thrift stores. Occasionally I do find items on Craigslist, but not too often. Beth, Wow, great scores from you lately! Nice group of postcards there. PTD |

Hi I found these things today. Glasses from Trader Vics I think. The fork with the tiki is made of copper and brass very heavy. Don't know anything about it. Cheers! and Happy collecting, |

Great score... ONE of those green glasses just sold on ebay for $76, at that rate you just scored about $450 worth of glasses! |

I included that in the pics for PTD's benefit. I noticed a similar one in some of hos pics. I must confess, I scored that on fleabay. Half of my room is Tiki & the other half is Hot Rod/Kustom Kulture/Diner! I'll post pics of the whole thing as cleanup & redecorating progress. [ Edited by: Big Kahuna 2008-09-09 19:05 ] |

Got it right away, and by the way, nice finds for the summer you have there! Not to go too far off topic, but I saw a Swami Fortune Teller a couple of months ago at the antique show for $35.00. The trick is to find them with their keys and paper fortunes... One thing for certain, the Swami never lies...try and fool it sometime. PTD |

Frankoma Widow Maker in Cinnamon from The Cultured Pearl, Tulsa OK. Purchased this from an interesting fellow living in an area of Arkansas not too far from Tulsa. He told me he is a friend of the Synar family of Synar Pottery and met John Frank in 1957-58 when he (Mr. Frank) purchased Synar, which then became Gracetone Potteries. . Found a little something in the vase section at the thrift store: I couldn't believe it - I just kept saying "This is impossible", then noticed a woman next to me staring at me like I was a nut. Maybe I am. I have never seen a Mauna Loa mug in person, but I knew what it was right away. In great condition, even still has the sticker on the bottom. What is a Mauna Loa drum mug doing in a thrift store in Hawaii? Maybe my best wild find ever. |

Thanks Tikiwahine, I was pretty sure it was a PNG, but was wondering if it was old and if there is a story behind the design. The records seem to be everywhere right now. Not sure why, but this is an untapped area of collecting in my area for some reason. Really nice score on the drum mug, the Aloha shirts and of course, Buzzy, nice finds! Finally ran across one of these little Tiki Hibachis. Still has the interior cup and the grill rack. The other things I found on this trip were all sort of travel education oriented. First are 5 different film strips in their cannisters. I remember our teachers back in elementary school would sometimes use these sort of things in class. I don't know if I have the proper slide projector to view these but I held them up to the light to make sure I had the right ones in each container. I also found these two hardback books. They are from a series called Guided Tours of the World - a colorslide travel program by PANORAMA. Here you can see the 2 slide panels and the record which accompanies each book. I have no idea what kind of viewer is required to see these slides but it hardly matters because each slide appears in the book as a print. Next I have a scan of the best 2 chapters in the South Seas book. Oh, these books are copyrighted 1960 and 1961 respectively. |
