While out thrifting today I got some pretty crappy news via my cellphone so I think this was the universe's way of saying it was sorry. The most kick ass score on 2 kick ass vintage shirts -- each were $3: A zip up/button up combo barkcloth by Iolani of Hawaii size L AND the single BEST shirt I have ever scored--Primo Beer by Hawaiian Holiday Sportswear. So freakin sweet. EDITED Because I forgot to post the shot of the back [ Edited by: leleliz 2009-06-12 16:24 ] |

Thanks. Nope I don't wear any of the shirts I find. I just like to collect them because I can find so many vintage ones super cheap. I believe the Primo Beer shirt is a large, although the size tag is missing from the shirt itself [ Edited by: leleliz 2009-06-12 16:27 ] |

I saw an ad for a tiki/retro yard sale on Craigslist. Once I got there I met the person having the yard sale and it was Sven Kirsten. An early Tiki Farm mug. A Crazy Al #18 mug (now my prized mug) A Witco hanging clock which needs a new mechanism. [ Edited by: geedavee 2009-06-13 12:09 ] |

A couple of finds today. First 2 stirs from Trader Vic's and the Castaways. Then my better finds, 2 menus from the Masten Lines cruises featuring prints by Louis Macouillard, 'New Zealand' and 'Samoa' respectively. The menus are from 1959 and 1966, and the colors are much more impressive them my lousy picture shows. |

I just saw one of these today without any text on the back (I've seen several different names on these in the past). Bec and I picked up two sweet rattan chairs on what was supposed to be a quick hop over to Portland Nursery - amazing how a small detour to find lunch put us over in the Hawthorne area. I still have to go back and pick up the second chair as they both wouldn't fit in the tiny car. |

Here are my finds from the first part of the year. I haven't posted since winter because we moved and one of the first things I had to pack up was the Tiki bar. (something about "de-cluttering"...) But then I haven't really found that much worth posting. Here's the good stuff: |

I have seen quite a few of these here on the West Coast but I have not seen any with material as a backing before. I do not think it is original but can't guarantee it. Welcome Ky-Tiki to TC! Good to have another BC'er on here! Mahalo, TabooDan |

Big Kahuna, Does the kon-tiki ports mugs you got have cubic zirconium eyes or it it some thing someone added? I just have not seen them with that added or still intacted before. I have had about 8 of those mugs and never seen one with that option. Awesome finds, that one is with out doubt my favorite bisque mug. |

Thank you, Bongo and TabooDan. I'm quite sure the fabric (heavy felt) isn't original but I do like the way it looks. Good info this one and the companion piece, Dan. Definitely something I'll be keeping an eye out for in my sojourns. |

Thank you, TabooDan! I like how the craftsman had some leeway in creating the piece, quite a number of small differences. And I definitely have to find the Ukulele player. |

They definitely don't look like something someone added. I have one without the rhinestones, but the eye sockets definitely look like something's missing. They probably made them both ways, maybe eliminating the rhinestones in later years to cut costs. |

Well let's see, I saw a Harvey's Sneaky Tiki bucket mug, a Trader Dick's peanut mug and a Quon-Quon coffee mug missing one rhinestone in it's eye, Martin Denny's Exotica and Quiet Village albums and since have more than I need, I passed on them. I did find this...

Found at one of the nastiest 'Thrift' stores I have ever been to. Not sure where most of the stuff came from, dumpsters possibly. Anyway found this, he's about 6 inches, no markings, looks older, or maybe it was the stress of sitting next to used, uncleaned, ashtrays (ewwwwww!) Any information would be helpful. |

I was thinking the same thing! Is that a tile transfer or did you buy the tile like that? And you are in clearwater? I lived in CLearwater for about 5 years off Drew St. Have you tried the thrifts off Central in St. Pete? Well they are more like junk/antique shops. You can usually find tiki stuff tucked in them if you have the time to look. |

Ha, no unfortunately it is not an original tile. My wife is obsessed with Atomic Starburst. So, to sate your appetites I will post a couple pictures of her vintage china collection. She has a cabinet full of the stuff. My wife and I are into all sorts of atomic age, vintage Florida kitsch, and old surfing stuff, as well as tiki. It seems odd trying to blend it all, but she has a great eye, and it seems to work. Please note the tiki mugs in picture one are recent additions, one is from Goodwill, the others are new, waiting for Fathers Day libations. Going to barbeque and make some Voo Doo Juice for my dad. And yes, I have been up and down Central Ave, in St. Pete. There is a great booth at one of the antique shops. Lots of furniture, a few decent mugs (a bit overpriced imho), and some various Hawiiana, and Florida kitsch. My wife is laughing at me because my Tiki find didn't get his props. Please forgive me if these pictures stray from Tiki finds, I don't want this going into an Atomic Kitchen discussion. BACK TO TIKI!!! |
