Whoa!!!
The Singapore Sling mug!!! You are one lucky guy!!! I have only seen it once in my life, in Mexico City, and I bought it of course, so, congratulations! I am happy you found it! a real Latin tiki collector!

Thanks Zeta, it's a unique mug for sure!

This week's stuff:

Hawaiian souvineer Tonga style wood tiki

It's real skinny:

A PNG ancestral tablet.It'ss about 25" tall

Unmarked little black tiki

I got most of those mugs when I was vending next to this guy while he had his 1/2 price tiki Mug sale at the Hula Girls Show/Tonga Hut parking lot sale on Sunday:

I just couldn't resist a good bargain!
And , I tripled my mug collection in one smooth transaction! I think I can join OOga Mooga now...

Matt took me to SF this weekend for my birthday and we found a few things. Picked up the TV 75th Anniversary mug in Emeryville, CA. (and had a scorpion) Went antiquing and found a few others.

We stayed overnight in the city, walked to the Fairmont Hotel and had dinner at the Tonga Room. It's so beautiful. It looks like they cleaned it up nicely, unfortunately, the food was just so so (too sweet and bland) and I had a pineapple daiquiri which was ok. I ordered a mai tai with dinner and it was so bad I had to send it back!! Tasted like bad medicine... very disappointing.

Then we took some hair raising cab rides (I'm serious, they go at least 70 MPH flying down the hills of San Francisco - Think of the movie "Bullet" with Steve McQueen).

Made it safely to Smuggler's Cove, really fun place. I had a Test Pilot and Matt had the Smuggler Cove Rum Barrel and a painkiller. The bartender, Melissa, was a bar tending marvel! We ended the night at Bourbon & Branch, a 1920's style speakeasy, that requires a password to gain entrance, and some very talented bartenders.

(Our last cab ride to the hotel was unbelievable. Somehow we arrived unharmed. We stepped out and Matt leaned in to pay him and he was asleep, snoring. Matt had to wake him up to pay him. Have you ever heard of a narcoleptic cab driver?) Be careful in the city :)

Note to Duane:

I found the Harvey's Bowl at Midway!

This week's stuff:

I think this is my first found in the wild tiki stirrer stick:

So now that I've started my stirrer stick collection, how many more do I need until I have them all?

Kapu-Kai and Outrigger postcards:

New Zealand Maori napkins with a couple tikis and a club on them

Moai tissue dispenser:

I traded some of my matchbook doubles I got a couple weeks ago for these:

Buzzy Out!

Ok Ohana......What is this?

I know I have seen it before, but, I no can find. And yes, I realize that it is a lamp.

BOT? Nope! Google Images? Nope! Ebay history? Nope!

Is it even Tiki? I thought it more of an Aztec influence, but, wanted it anyways.

It looks native american; specifically like a hopi or zuni kachina: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopi_Kachina_dolls

Don't see them that big that often, mostly carved wood under 12".

Yes, now that looks like a match.

Clearly this is the origin of your lamp, but be warned, it is cursed....Brahahahahahahah....

Melody,

Happiest of birthdays to a fellow Aries and it sounds like you had an amazing time on your adventure. It appears you hit all the appropriate SF locales and the sleeping cab driver just adds to the fun.

Thanks for the heads-up on Midway...I usually find a few things there as well.

PTD

Found a new antique/thrift store today....made some good scores:

a bar stool for $8.00

a set of PMP bamboo mugs for $10

a fu manchu for $4

and a hula wahine for $4

It is nice to find something upstate ny.....and when you do they usually have no idea what they are selling....it is usually marked as a vase.

Orchids R-3 mug with jeweled eyes

Stand-up table card from the Tapa Room at the Hawaiian Village and a Kodak Hula show postcard

Love that table card. Have you ever posted pics of that cool home bar of yours? You should.

Yeah, it was a steal at $0.20 too! Here's a close-up:

Yes, I posted my bar photos quite a long time ago. I should probably repost to the new home-bar forum though:

This weeks stuff:

I was overjoyed to get this CocoJoe's plaque today. I didn't have it yet, and it was only $8!

This got me all happy and giddy when I stumbled upon it yesterday

He has a knot in his right eye that looks like a pupil

I'd been hoping to get one of these some day. The crack on his arm is only on the shoulder. It's still attached at the hand and was never broken off there. There's another small hairline crack in the back as well. The seller wanted $7 for it, I pointed out the cracks and countered with $5 and we had a deal.

Guam ashtray that looks like the HIP one:

Mugs:
Trader Dicks and Harveys

Daga Al harrington and UCSD cancer fundraiser mug from last year's Longboard Invitational

Daga bamboo mugs from the Fogcutter

PNG mini mask

Bali hai and Kona kai matches

Another of Cook's journeys book. This one had a few good tiki and art pictures it in, and of those, a few were not common stock ones most other books like this use

I bought it just because it had this picture in it

And finally, a Tonga after shower lotion tiki bottle by Amway:

So when did Amway get in on the whole Tiki devolution/revival thing?

Buzzy Out!

I hit the outdoor flea market today and picked up a few things...CHEAP....
$1 each for the sharks jaws and the carved wooden mugs marked "Made in the Philippines...$1.50 for the Hula girl still in the box and 25 and 50 cents each for the Orchids of Hawaii Tiki and the black tiki candle holder marked:
"Tiki Isles Enterprises, Longwood, Fla.

And I got a rubber rat that appears to be stealing treats from the "pee-nut" bowl.

original box.I should have kept it .

Really great finds for KY, I have a hard time finding anything here. I usually have much better luck digging up Kahiki stuff in southern Ohio.

Great finds PTD. The Moai mug looks like Beauce ware.

Are you going to taste the Okolehau? I would (that's just me).

L

Duane I have that same unmarked Moai mug.

All I found today was 10 freakin Harvey's bucket mugs.....lordy!

Liz,

I know what you mean. Today I passed on buying four Harvey's bucket mugs, two Harvey's hula girl mugs, two different Westwood mugs, two Leilani mugs, one larger Coco Joe's hula girl (the guy wanted $25.00) and a Jim Beam Hawaii State bottle, since I already have them.

This was my only find today...

A cement garden tiki.

Later,

PTD

I found a pair of identical twins today. No markings except "Taiwan" on the bottom. Oh! and these dudes have a serious case of man-boobs.

USAF, Ha, ha! Those are not men. Better to say your wahine twins have serious facial non-atractiveness.

T

Had good day of hunting today.

2 Witco pieces (my first 2..I've finally popped my Witco cherry....now it's open season !) ), a few Coco Joes, and and some odd Trader Vics glasses....

Witco Sailboat, and tiki

Interesting Coco Joes ashtray and Lighter set, bottle opener, and a HIP Tiki.

Trader Vics Glasses that I've never seen before...set of 5.

Monstera Leaf Ashtray (says "Aloha Hawaii" on it)

A very satisfying day of Tiki finds.

T

All off this stuff was from 1 garage sale, which is rare here in Vegas

Well, I had thought of that but dismissed it as not probable ...Im new to the tiki collecting , So is there a history of ugly women tiki's? Obviously the 2 that I bought are not old, but there must be some history of them, afterall who would think it profitable to make and market ugly women mugs?

They are modern copies of Orchids Of Hawaii mugs.
I sent one out in my last 'mug swap' package.

Here are my first finds of the "busy season":

Bookends (I think); tourist or home-carved tiki; cool ice bucket

Fitz & Floyd Nautilus; Trader Vic's Hawaii sea horse

Set of 3 medium-sized floats

Here's an interesting one. Looks homemade, and cheaply done at that. However, on the base is this inscription:

Could this be a genuine artifact from Edmonton's Tiki Tiki? Any locals remember them carrying any mugs like this? I'll post it on the Tiki Tiki thread, too.

Nice finds up that way Brandomoai!!

It's been slim pickings here in Denver for the last few weeks.

But today I did find these...

A R-72 mug that I didn't have, Esquivel's Other Worlds, Other Sounds and a Triton's Trumpet Shell that has the tip knocked off.
I knew all those years of Trombone lessons would come in handy some day...

[ Edited by: Beach Bum Scott 2010-04-21 13:43 ]

Found some great stuff over the weekend, but I'll limit to posting my favorite:

Says "Hawaii 1967" in sharpie. I don't know if it's authentic, or how rare these are, but I was stoked! (and only $10!)

Scott,
That isn't a Triton's Trumpet Shell. It is a Florida Horse Conch. It is a great shell to have, specially that size.

What is the story on the Haunted Mansion piece? Looks interesting!

PTD

PTD- The Haunted Mansion piece is a puzzle box. There are several steps to slide open the side of the box, the lid comes off, the other side slides open and there is a drawer in the bottom. There are a couple of different sizes. In addition, there is a Walt Disney World version with a different graphic on the front. The box dates from the early 1970s.
