Thanks guys! In the past year I have had ambivalent feelings about posting anything. Seems like there are the few that are trying to "own" TC and along with what seems like so many others, it has left a bad juju keeping me from wanting to participate. So many people on other social media boards make fun of this board, which really used to be fun and informative. As you can see from my posts (many) most have been documentation of the things I have found, asking questions or information about places I have learned about. Unforunately I have not found a better alternative site to share on, so if anyone knows of another one kindly steer me there. So I am sticking my toe in the water again. I have learned so much here and I am sure there is so much more to garner in the future. Time and time again I have to remind myself that much like high school there are bullies here you have to either ignore or face head on. But it does get tiresome. Again, thanks for looking and the positive comments. It does make the hours and money spent worth that much more. PTD |

Great finds psycho. I've been keeping an eye out for some of those for a long time. Especially the nautilus mug. I've seen tons of others that are identical, but have legs. |

Duane I 100% agree with your TC observation and appreciate you stating the obvious. You know that thred..where are the original TCers today? Well most are tired of the postings of many ruined by the long winded diatribes of a few so why not post elsewhere. Its great to see you sharing your finds on here however...even if we are in real life friends you find better stuff then most--ya bastard  |

I just wanted to say that although I've only posted once before on this particular thread I do check it often and love seeing everyone's finds. Sadly, I have never seen any tiki items in the "wild" here in NJ so I don't have anything to post. But maybe I'll do better during this year's yard sale season. You niver know, right? I've checked garage sales, the Salvation Army, a flea market and some rummage type sales. Nada. Sigh. Congrats to those of you who score these amazing finds. I am most jealous!! |

Gooneybird, I dig it too.
Lori, it just takes time. Many items I thought I'd never find here in Indiana, turned up in my lap. Keep at it. "When the collector is ready, the tiki will be there!" (Or something like that.) :) |

New to this thread. I've had the tiki bug a long time just didn't know it till recently. Here is a little ivy tiki my mom had for years that I now own, the Ku is Kool: My wife's boss gave her this black craved Lono tiki and she in turn gave it to me. They were in retail and this was a sample item. It's 25in tall and it has sat in our living room for years. We do have tropical decor: My black SUV has white tiki stickers all over the back (no photo). Here are some tiki decanters which I'm fond of: and a closer shot of these little shakers which I'm also fond of. One set from Trader Vics one set from Steve Crane and the other set unknown: Tiki Movies & Tiki TV @ southseascinema.org [ Edited by: creativenative 2013-02-25 03:39 ] |

This week's stuff: This PNG mask is spot on for the one in the OA catalog, but it's two feet instead of the listed catalog length of 3 feet: Maori Waka: (looks like a repainted) Maori mask. It also used to have a leather hanging strap Barrow Maori art boook DTBC and Tradewinds matchbooks Two Schirman's and an unmarked Schirmanesque piece: Coco Joe's lot. Didn't think I had the letter opener, so I as required, I bought both. Cement Marq tiki: This tiki was too unique to pass on: It has a dual sided carved feature thing going on: Abstract pattern on back: Harvey's Sail away and a Latitude 20 Torrance Omc mug Beachbum Burt's glass: I also got a large set of Philipino Ku fork/spoon to refashion as a gate handle. Welcome back PTD! |

Storyboard carving of a what appears to be a man tied to a stake. Huts on stilts, large chickens, palm trees, people holding weapons and tropical birds are all deeply carved into the wood. |

Looking at the original that this guy was based on, I can't help but feel that the carver was making a point in portraying him as such a chubster :) In Tiki-carving the head, as the seat of mana, was usually oversized, sometimes 1/3 of the whole figure. That's why Tikis with naturalistic, normal head-to-body proportions look slightly wrong, often. It also gives Tikis a kinship with caricatures and cartoons that inspired many mid-century Tiki artists. |

Nice John, I saw that one but had to pass since I need to fix the ones I already have :) That one is in excellent condition. Here's my score - no markings, but I've seen it in some Don the Beachcomber menus: It's a little smaller than my other scorpion bowls: Here's the one I mentioned, in a DTB menu:

Nice find DAGG... :) Well I told the Buzz I never find matches and it started raining. Wife found this HEAVY Moai while I was at work. Then she sent me this photo I froze and asked for more pics... What a wife... I still have to dust if off, but it looks great. I know, I know, not a Tiki, but I like it and I will pretend there is a Moai inside at the wheel The best part..................................... only $4.00 :) :) :) And I have to put it together right Worst sound ever, slurp of an empty tiki mug through my straw!!!
