Any one notice the new Tiki Farm mug by Thor Thordarson looks remarkably like the crazy doll from the Trilogy of Terror horror film? Coincidence? |

Popped into an estate sales this morning looking for furniture. Came out with two Kahika moai mugs. This is in Austin, TX mind you. Nothing else tiki or Ohio related in the house. Probably not of interest to many here, but they also had a plethora of Alex Chilton/Big Star/Boxtops records that didn't at all suit the mostly 70s electric blues record collection. Weird sale. Happy me. The one on the right must be from an earlier mold. Much better detail.

I have one ceramic port and one ceramic starboard mug marked Trader Vic’s. Inexplicably, one is quite larger than the other. |

Interesting. I didn't realize there were ceramic versions. I'm not a big bourbon fan, so I've only had a Port Light at Vic's once, and it came in the glass version. My barback doesn't have an inch of room left, and my mug shelves aren't tall enough to accommodate it, so I had to put the decanter on a bench where I normally keep my tiki carvings. Unfortunately, the black side kind of disappears in the low-light, so I'll have to come up with some way to illuminate it. |

Amazingly awesome or terribly tacky? Can't decide but for ten bucks I couldn't resist picking it up. |

Not awesome, not tacky, not tiki. But it is pretty cool and would fit in nice in the right setting. |

This is one of two things I've found lately that came with the internal discussion of...what is it? is it polynesian, african, marquesan? With the final answer being ... I don't give a crap. Its cool, I like it, and it was a $1. |

Digging thru matchbooks today I found.... No big deal, a sandwich place in Topeka Kansas.... until you turn it over.... Trader Dicks in Kansas? A private club?.... sounds super cool. I searched on here for info, found nothing about it.... except this, which shows the same matchbook.. http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=38017&forum=5&hilite=private%20club%20kansas [ Edited by: ErichTroudt 2014-11-20 11:38 ] |

hang10tiki you can laugh a whole bunch. I scrolled down to the lid and then searched the house for a magnifying glass to read the lid. After I squinted a whole bunch and got it read I scrolled further and found that you had enlarged it. My new motto scroll first and always. What a unique find. Wendy |

If google it, you'll find that the "Lionel Barrymore's outstanding waterfront etchings" on the card backs are pretty generic fishermen's village stuff, and have nothing to do with Kon-Tiki or Tiki. But I have that box too, and I love the Polynesian Pop poetry of the text in the lid…I tried to quote it in my Beachcomber chapter, but did not have enough space. And remember! : |

Hang10 - is this a Disney Polynesian Village glass? I found one like this that had also been painted. Mine is green. It has some paint spatter on the bottom, which led me to believe it had been painted by someone else along the way. Ideas? thanks! |

Very, very cool Ex! If it were mine (I can dream) I would carefully clean it and leave it as it is. The pic at bottom rht looks Witco to my untrained eye. No opinion on the rest of the bar. Let’s see what others think. Congrats! [ Edited by: nui 'umi 'umi 2014-12-08 22:28 ] |

That's definitely Witco - In fact, the same bar was used as a hostess stand long ago at the legendary Chin Tiki in Detroit; This photo was posted by Sven in the Chin Tiki thread over in "Locating Tiki..." ...Looks like the same one to me! Where did you find yours, out of curiosity? It looks like a great piece! --Pete |
