54 year’s plus Trader Vic’s/Polinesio cow hide shield. Approx. 18” x 2'

Recent stuff:

I think it's from Palau storyboard. Measures 18 x 30" Story seems to be sexual in nature

The woven rope frame wasn't original to the piece so off it came. Under were some inlays. Here it is after I cleaned it with beeswax orange oil

I have one wall in my room that Ive left undecorated because I didn't have a nice centerpiece to start with. NOw I have my centerpiece.

22" Mwei mask. This was in a pile of crappy cost plus African looking carvings.

PNG carving

Ceramic Kava kava couple

Tiki face slit drum

Tiki letter opener carved from shell. marked Tahiti on back

I love this thread. Congratulations guys that's wonderful finds. Wendy

David-

Forgive me Jon . I did not realize that it was a decanter. I was still experiencing jet lag and rum stupor when I posed the question.

Buzzy - Thanks for all you contribute here. You sure are a wealth of knowledge.

Hang10-you lucked out bud. First off, they actually had one of the Hula Hula mugs available when you went. I have been there several times when they were out. It's been hit and miss. Besides that, it is really thin with regards to tiki here. I look fairly often and don't ever seem to come across much. Can I ask where you actually found those decanters? Didn't happen to be that antique shop around the corner from Hula Hula? I am always looking for places to comb up here.

Speaking of combing...I found this at the local Goodwill the other day for $15. No signature or markings...and the bottom isn't the flattest...but the details look similar to the Easter Island Moai. It's about 22" tall, the mug is in the picture to give and idea of scale. Pretty fun to find this at Goodwill. If anyone has any ideas bout it, please pipe in.

RV That’s a nice piece. Is it carved from oak?
Cheers

No problem-here's what I know about those.
I met a guy from Chile with a pretty sweet Moai collection a few years ago. These carvings came up and from what I remember is that they are made in Chile for the tourist trade, from whatever local stock is. He said they carve them there for local tourist shops and send them out to Rapa Nui as well. All kinds of variations of those. Yours is one of the nicer ones, imo. I have maybe a dozen different ones and maybe 4-5 match your wood type exactly.

T

my haul from this Saturday...

I'm especially happy with the pointy chins, the detail is very crisp.I know people look down on the Benihanas, but it shows the scale of the floats, which I got for $20 and $10, a steal around here. I was happy about the Randotti skull, but was sad because I watched a woman grab the full sized one with the snake wrapped around it before I could get to the table... And it was only $15. Ah well, you win some you loose some. Considering I paid $10 for one mug and $5 each for the rest, I'm not gonna complain...

Great finds u guys

Nice Score Teadoir. Check out Uncle Trav’s post on the Tepco Pointy chin mug below.
Cheers

Buzzy-your spot on. Thanks for the info.

I forgot, I also picked up this guy on the same outing

Hey TD, mine is approx, 15”tall. It’s heavy but the inside looks like plaster. It has been painted a couple of times and as you can see in my pix, mine has a different base. No markings anywhere on mine.
Cheers

Picked up at a yard sale today. They had a lot of different menu’s etc. that they wanted to sell as a “lot", But I was able to purchase just these two plus a MCM napkin from a restaurant in LA. Can’t tell which TV’s the Bar appetizer book/menu is from and judging by the prices in the Minnie’s menu it’s fairly recent.
Cheers

Checked out my neighbors yard sale as they were closing up. Got the album and a book with a 1950 copyright. The book was originally published in 1938-the author was at the time curator at the Bishop Museum. You might recognize the Ku sketch on the cover as the magnificent Ku that is housed at the museum. Most of the illustrations in the book are of items currently in the museum. My Hats off to them for taking such good care of so many priceless items.

full set of Crane Cannibals! I believe these are from the Kon Tiki in Chicago. These are grail pieces for me; have wanted some cannibals for a loooong time! Sorry for lousy pic.

WHOA! Great score, Buddha!

These 3 are featherweight so I know they are not Cocojoe’s. I think that the first two words within the circle on the label are “Guam" and “territory".They are resin and one of em is bowed over so much he falls over easily. Although they have classic Hawaiian/Ku bodies’ the heads are grotesque imho.

Snagged this whalebone piece at tiki marketplace awhile back. CeCe loved it. About 6” tall.

Wow that comb is so special. This thread just goes to prove you can never have it all. There's so much out there it's overwhelming.

I found this for Dan. On the back it has written in ink Easter Island March 1978. We were married in May of 1978 so this was a fun find. Wendy

Rare as hen's teeth.

Okay here is the story. A storage locker was put on Kijiji Alberta last weekend. All stuff from the Edmonton Beachcomber which closed in the late seventies or early 80's.
Full of chairs, tables, some mugs, table lamps, and fish floats. Oh and four big Tikis. I took what I could afford but there are still 3 very cool and vintage tikis left for someone.
When I found out I said to myself I must be having a great dream, this does not happen. A virtual time capsule. Everything was dirty but in good shape. The mugs are in mint shape wrapped in newspaper from 1975

The 2 Tikis here are 6 feet tall and weight around 400 lbs

Kilaueakyd, great find-congrats! I have a concrete copy of that Ku in your 1rst pic. I’ll post it later gotta go batten up the hatches on my tiki lounge-might rain and forecasts of the dreaded “El Nino” this year tell me I’d better stop procrastinating.

Found these at a thrift/antique store that is never open when i'm out that way but surprisingly yesterday it was. Unfortunately both the ears are broken on the PNG piece (it is extremely rare to find any PNG pieces here that aren't damaged in some way) but it is a good size and was a reasonable price. I love how it still has the fumigation certificate on the back of it but sadly all the information has faded from it so i have no way of knowing exactly how hold it is. I'm guessing 70's.

I also found this, something i've been hoping to find for a while now. I'm not sure if this was ever designed to work or is just an ornamental piece but i'm happy for it to just be a display piece, although i will change the rope on it.

Nice finds Robbie! What’s wrong with the rope? Doncha like bright white?
Cheers,
David

Robbie, congratulations on some great finds.

We went on a day trip to Sebastopol and Napa and found some treasures.

Back home I photographed all our new tiki treasures. We had also found this Tahitian tiki mounted on a rock stand. They probably were paired up by the owner and not the carver.

On the bottom of the bookends there was this sticker.

On the bottom of the tiki was this note.

Wendy, Nice finds. Luv dem bookends.
Cheers
