Looks like a barrel kinda day. I picked up a rare Bob's rum barrel from the Mauna Loa Detroit that is stone cold mint!! Also two Hawaii Kai Ku mugs and a Tonga Room mug. And all for $15.

And this older heavy miniature diver's helmet. I may put a patina on it and wire it up for a hanging lamp.

I recently came across some 2.5 foot tall carved tikis that had the name "Gordon" carved at the base as a signature. Does anyone know anything about the artist?

Dixon, I don't know what those are, but nice find!

Thanks David. Yep, it definitely looks like it would have held a spear at some point. I wish it came with it. I guess i'll just put a swizzle stick in there instead.

Been a while since I’ve found anything remotely tiki. Stopped at a late afternoon yard sale and snagged this 18”x 28” print and the crude storyboard. Crude because it is not as nicely detailed as the that others I own. Seller gave me the mini spoon and fork.

here's some stuff i picked up today, plus a set of 4 plastic tiki torches, never used, with poles and witco shield, plastic pineapple light shades at an estate sale last weekend.

Those two brown Tikis are from Orchids, that shield is a late O.A. creation, and those Tiki torches I have never seen before! Really weird design…and in yellow plastic? Did you keep the newspaper wrapping, that could be a clue to their age.

The paper was dated 1968

I have photos if the original box they came in from another tiki collector. Theirs are green instead of yellow. They look like the genie on the zombie village menu. I'll
Post pics of the green ones later today.

just picked up one of these leilani rum displays - these are used on the walls of tiki ti, which is where i first saw them years ago. never knew what they were from until i discovered this complete one.

An interesting interpretation - I saw it more as a "Don't tread on me" sort of anti-colonialist statement...

It's unusual to see this on a piece of mid-century furniture: it's the sort of ironic detail you see in carvings on the walls of medieval European churches - it's very clever.

The wooden panel pictured above clearly places the tiki on the British side.

The Maori, at least, could see the writing on the wall and petitioned the British Crown to establish a colony,
ostensibly to keep the French out... also the American whalers who were treating the place as a massive whore-house.

Imagine if this were not so. At the time, the fledgling colony of New South Wales was desperately struggling for survival,
and the British were extremely reluctant to extend themselves further.

If NSW had failed, the French would certainly have seized control both of New Zealand AND Australia -
at least on the Eastern seaboard, with possibly the Dutch [or others] here in the West.

Fast forward a hundred years or so:
Both France and the Netherlands were occupied by Nazi Germany - which was allied to Imperial Japan.

If the British had failed in New South Wales and the Maori had not pleaded for a British colony there - and France had taken control -
the outcome of the Second World War might have been completely different -

because the Japanese might then have had a wide open door to this whole region.

I don't think the crest in question is an expresson of split English/French colonial duality. The fleur de lis has been a part of English heraldry since the Middle Ages (not surprisingly as most of the English aristocracy were the descendants of Norman invaders).

As an example, here is Henry IV of England's coat of arms (1399-1413):

So I think it's just a cheeky tiki clawing his way out from under the English yoke. :)

But I believe THIS is closer to the British Coat of Arms at the time the Maori petitioned the Crown to establish a British colony in New Zealand:
