BTW "What kind of impression did you leave on her?" Not a single mark. She was young, just a sprout. I didn't touch her. I don't care what she told you. [ Edited by Will carve on 2023-09-24 05:48:52 ] |

Here's a good reason not to sleep on Parrothead estate sales. The clown tiki may be a turnoff, but it distracts the Tommy Bahama crowd so that we can turn up interesting finds. At said estate sale The Wife was able to muscle her way through the crowd and come away with these glass floats, a cork line, nifty dress and other stuffs: I had been unable to accompany her, but the following day we returned together fully expecting the place to be completely picked over. Wrong. We found more cork lines, a bunch of buoys that'd been overlooked by everyone plus... ...a replica whaling harpoon shoved into a corner, completely forgotten by everyone. It didn't even have a price marked. I asked how much and the estate sale lady looked at it with distaste and said "$12." With the second day discount I got it for $8. It's only a replica (aluminum toggle) but even replicas go for a lot on Ebay. I've wanted one for years and now I've got one. Yay me! |

Thanks, Mike! We didn't start hitting estate sales until maybe two years ago and I keep forgetting this thread is here. I shall try to do better in the future! |

Time to catch up on my aloha shirt finds from the past few months. I found this one at an Oceanside thrift store before Tiki Oasis. Much like my previous Hilo Hattie find, this doesn't fit, either, even though it says it's a large (could it be a ladies L? It doesn't look like a ladies cut....) Got this at a "higher end" thrift store in Fort Collins in September. This one fits. And then I was very excited to snatch up this one for $2.50 at one of the local shops in December. |

Trying mobile app here goes... Finding anything here in Eastern Canada is a bit of a treat. Marquesan "Ukarere". No idea of age. Will need a bit of work, but I might just get it to display condition as opposed to playable. ps heh major mobile upload struggles... should have gotten a child to do it...

I found these five fine fellows hanging out at Goodwill yesterday and convinced them to come join my others. At $1.99 each for 2 Orchids of Hawaii, a Tiki Farm, an unknown Ku, and a lowly DW... for me it was a steal. When I find a whole group, I always hope someone's wife/significant other/soon to be ex didn't just go and donate them!! [ Edited by Holofernes on 2024-07-09 07:12:12 ] |

@Hamo, Denver proper is a wasteland for tiki items in my experience, but the ring 'burbs (especially ARC stores) have been very good to me. |

I really like the arc stores. I did find a Maui luau coconut mug at the Littleton arc, and the tiki I finally found was at the Loveland one. I need to take a day just to come down to thrift around. |

I found these two conch shell lamps while out thrifting the past few weeks. I think they'd look great on a bar or on shelving behind a bar? Both had nightmarishly decayed electrical cords - the one on the right is probably from around the late forties or mid 50's based on the plug style. [ Edited by Holofernes on 2024-08-31 11:45:55 ] |

These vintage shell lights are always fun to find, Holofernes. You're right about the cords on the older ones--they can be sketchy as all get-out. Fortunately, they're fairly straightforward to replace. |
