Today's finds: ...and this crappy made in China mug: I went to lunch at Islands with my mom today and "found" these. Last week I found this, and since I couldn't find it anywhere else on TC, I'll post what I found out about it since then: Buzzy Out! |

Great scores Buzz! Those "Oceanic Art" and "Art of The Pacific" books are two of my absolute favourites on my reference shelf. Brian Brake's photos (in the NZ one) are just incredible - the guy had a rare talent for photographing artifacts. It's worth a good chunk of change here too, as it's been OOP for so long. If anyone is interested, Reed's have republished many of his Maori art photos in this book Only the mind of Buzzy could do what you did with that last pic. Thanks, I'll have that stuck in my head all day now  |

I have a single one very similar to these, but without the bowl-like top of the mug-part, and a matching wooden mug that goes along with it. Always thought it was a giant ladle for a huge punch bowl... |

Bay Park, You mean to tell me even the Ocean's 11 stuff is ending up in shops in California? Damn. We Texas Tikiphiles have NO chance whatsoever. |

It only made it as far as the back of a truck at the swap meet before I got it. I bought a couple other things from the same vendor, and he asked me if I liked Hawaiian stuff too. I said yes and he started digging around in some boxes in the back of his truck. He pulled out four mugs, all of which he wanted $5 for. I almost passed because they were so expensive. The rest of this weekends stuff: Kealoha, marked c. Frank Schirman 1967 A Moari fish plate: Buzzy Out! |

Scored these today at an antique store..$5 for the pair. No markings below or behind, so it's kinda hard to place/date them. They're definitely not new though. |

Found this yesterday at a local goodwill - I have no idea why I decided to dig through a stack of Bobby McGee's ceramic bathtubs - I guess this guy was calling out to be rescued... Anybody have any info on this? I did a web search, and searched the forum, but to no avail... The bottom is just marked Daga - I am familiar with their stuff, just never seen this particular style. Thanks for any help... |

Daga was/is in the restaurant supply business, so they made ceramic vessels in many shapes - not just tiki. I have Daga mugs shaped like a cactus, sleeping mexican, and an engine block, in addition to many small brown coffee mugs with a seeming limitless number of restaurant logos. They were very productive back in the day. As you probably know, the Hale Koa is the military R&R hotel located at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki. I imagine that bathtub mug is just a knockoff of the Bobby McGee's mug, as Bobby McGee's was so unbelievable popular in the '70s. I have no idea what kind of drink was served in those mugs, or how they even got to your table - they look designed to slosh! |

I need some help identifying these two buggers. I picked them up at a thrift shop in Albuquerque. While the designs are classic, I have never seen these colors before. They are marked on the side with "Shang Hee" but I couldn't find anything online about that name. They also have flat bottoms. If you have any idea of the origins of these guys, please let me know. ..sb |

Ouuuch, take that away, it hurts my eyes.... :D Obviously some cheap Fu joint's attempt to copy these Otagiri classics by making molds of the original mugs. |

Those are amazing SBiM... I don't know anything about them but my favorite mugs are always the colorful fun ones! Heck, anyone can make a brown mug but you have to be awfully daring to go bright yellow & is that really purple or more blue? Great find! Tikisgrl |

SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE! Second trip in two weeks to a Goodwill near me.. and today I find... The one is a Kona Kai (says on the back) and has the whole OMC ring on the bottom, and the lotus sticker. Not sure what the other (moai) is.. no name, no markings.. it was gladed and fired on a tripod, other than that, not much! Anyone? GOt two bigarsed monkey-pod bowls too.. one leaf shaped, one peanut shaped. |

Today I scored two of the frosted, short, Polynesian VIllage (Disney) tiki glasses @ 3.00 each (pre "polynesian resort" conversion, with the wee head-dress polynesian critter on the logo), and four Kona Kai swizzles (with the tiki that matches my big mug on it) as well as a "plausible" tiki mug.. not vintage, but a blue mug, with two bands around the bottom, and a bowl top. Also scored about 30 vintage "other" swizzles, and a cutty-sark bar ad napkin holder. |

While at home recovering from Tiki Kon the UPS man brought me this
1963 Kay Good of Hawaii ceramic punch bowl, 6 mugs, and ladle. The mugs are a touch bigger than a Harvey's bucket. Other than mugs which I posted on Ooga-mooga, here are some recent thrift finds.
