I found this while buying some (non tiki) things for my patio on craigslist. Inside the doorway I saw this and asked if it was for sale. The guy I bought it from didn't have much information on it other than his mother gave it to him. I plan on hanging it in my tiki bar, Does anyone know anything about it?

It's a Fijian Sali Club! Nice score. Basement Kahuna and Tikimecula have carved a bunch of these.

The Down Under Bar was located in the Coffee Shop in the Ala Moana shopping center in Hawaii and was owned by Spencecliff Restaurants. It is no longer there.

Was a great Time at Trader Vic's Atlanta. We got a great deal on the two Luau plates and they threw in a green starboard and a wad of swizzles. The two bottles of lemon hart were just a bonus! THANKS JON!

I added these pieces today,
The Coco Joes "Keiki" came from a thrift store.
The nude figurine is ceramic and was given to me by a friend, he said it was given to him over 20 years ago as a White Elephant X-mas gift. Its been sitting on a shelf in his garage and his wife has been nagging him to throw it away.
I was thrilled to give it a new home in my bar.

My finds are so very modest compared to you all. But I do enjoy the hunt all the same. This guy is about 16 inches tall and made of plaster of some kind. A home craft I think.

Now this dagger(?); I can't tell if it was carved by some Boy Scout in Indiana, or a native in Bora Bora. I'm thinkin' it's not very old though.

I rarely pass when I find this type of vintage Hawaiian piece,however I did because of the
amount of damage that you can't see on the back of one of the arms , and it was missing
the female mate.This had a date on the back dated 1954 w/ mfg name .This is part
of a set of end tables without the glass .Thought I would post anyway.Rarely found in the wild .

PTD that's a slow day? We went under the freeway Sunday guessing that you had been there and left because it was 1PM. We didn't expect to find anything that late in the day but we were surprised!

A few random finds of which the 7 seas postcard was kindly shared with me by Dustycanyon. The Mauna Loa menu has really great graphics on the cover but unfortunately not the drink menu.

Here's a close up of the S and P shakers. No markings and both of them have two holes on top - the darker one had pepper in it and lighter one salt.

Looks pretty primitive and no idea where they came from. Picked up here in LA so they might be Spurlin (the Los Angeles Islander?) or who knows. If anybody has an idea where these came from, please help!

Slow day again, not much time to go out, but if you want to see a really cool bamboo bar I picked up today for a friend, check out the rattan thread.

Today's finds...



Harvey's Lake Tahoe Sneaky Tiki green, Islander Stockton Surfer Girl (yes, another one)! and a crossed armed tiki mug, along with a Kahiki pick. I have been looking for the Harvey's block letter version of this mug for the past six years in the wild. In my opinion, the hardest one to find. The other version is the cursive "Harvey's", way more common.




Dinner menu and Easter Sunday Special menu from The Castaway at Coyote Point in San Mateo CA. Menus are slightly larger than my scanner.


Matchbooks from the Kahiki, Kona Inn, Kailua and the green version of the Hawaiian Village Hotel in Waikiki.



Nice feature matchbook from The Outrigger in Seattle Washington.

I just picked up an interesting pair of sand art plaques, one marked "Primitive Mask" and the other "Primitive Shield," on the reverse in printed letters, so I am thinking they were commercially produced. The mask is very much in the Abelam (New Guinea) style, so I thought they were a fun find, though I would love to know what company might have made them. Any ideas?

Found this statue of unknown origins at the Women's Assistance League thriftshop today for $6.00..no markings on the bottom at all. Together with these lovely tall green plastic pineapples I picked up at Goodwill this week for .99 cents each, they make a lovely tableau for on top the entertainment center..:)

It's been ages since I found any good finds in Bangkok.

First up a unmarked unpainted Fu Man Chu, from the same stall that provides other unmarked generic tiki mugs I've found in Bangkok.

A two foot tall PNG mask that I discovered at secret flea market. Since this rather cool vintage market is virtually undiscovered by Farangs, prices quoted to foreigners are ludicrous ($115 for a Coco Joes) so I had a Thai friend do the haggling while I hid. The seller claimed he'd brought it back from Africa 20 years ago and wanted 3000 baht for it (but that 500 baht would go to the Temple so they could buy land for poor people) but my friend managed to haggle for 30 minutes, in which time a 9foot spear was added to the deal (which I managed to phone her to remove from the deal as I don't have room for it)and she finally got the mask and a paper weight of Mount Fuji for 2700 baht and that 1000 baht would go to the temple.

So perhaps I didn't get that much of a saving but the seller, my friend and myself did gain some merit in the eyes of Buddha, and I did avoid the whole Farang price fiasco where I would have been quoted a 10,000 baht price.

Here is all I have found in the last few months. Taboo is the first thrift store record I have found where the records is in better condition than the sleeve. Glass fish float is molded with four hash marks.

teak Moai in EXCELLENT shape about 14 inches tall, solid and heavy

some great "hear,see,speak no evil" monkeys

who can live without large tiki carved wooden cutlery? Not me. A little dinged up, but perhaps someone can help me out with some advise on how to spruce them up.

4 nice bowls, pineapple and round teak dishes. GREAT find at a rock bottom price.

This post was moved over from the Door Pull thread in case it was missed.

I found these carved wooden Tiki door handles at the JADE TIKI Restaurant in Bloomfield Hills, MI which recently closed. It took a crow bar, a hacksaw and about an hour's effort to get them off the doors. They are about 35 years old and stand 13 inches tall. Can anyone tell from the style who might have carved them? Thanks.
