Actually that bust is a Lefton bust. Legos tend to have those marble looking eyes I believe. Also I just found that same bust in a thrift and its even marked on the bottom "Lefton". Big Kahuna has found a few also. |

It was another good weekend for shirts. I even found two dresses. I also picked up some great fabric from 1995, a Hilton Hawaiian Village bag and one of those airbrushed mask mugs that I obsess over. |

Always looks impressive when you hand all the shirts together like that! I am on the lookout for one of those airbrushed mugs myself. Its just something about them that is super appealing ! |

No It's clearly marked Lego, and the eyes are Marble-like. |

Companies like Lefton and Lego emulated each other, and both made their wares in Japan to make it cost-effective for post-war US consumers. They sometimes made similar molds and used similar graphics to meet market tastes. |

Personally never heard of Lefton. My others are a Marwal, and a cheap handpainted ceramic job. |

Lefton was a huge company that made all types of ceramic Knick-Knacks, especially Christmas stuff. That sure looks like a Lefton Logo. I suppose what I think is an f & t could be a lower case g, but it would a have to be elevated. I don't have a magnifying glass to check mine & all of my other Lefton stuff is Christmas & packed away. Maybe I'll dig further just to satisfy my own curiosity. Regardless, that's a great piece. Well that explains why 2 of the same bust are each marked differently since mine looks identical and is marked "Lefton". |

Well I guess if someone added more letters it would look like Lefton. [ Edited by: insanetikiers 2009-05-13 03:28 ] |

I agree with Rick...having a conversation and discussing something on here is no need for someone to go off on them . Its a forum and the main purpose for most of us is escapism and second to that is learning. Good golly. Sorry if our multiple comments over your bust rubbed you the wrong way but I for one am glad to know more information on that particular find of mine because I had not seen very many posted here. (oh and by the way I am a girl too-but I am not sure what that means) ANYWAYS.....far as the THEME of this thread here are a few things- Vintage 1960s Barkcloth Hawaiian Dress - $2.50: Really great book on Mysteries of The Ancient WOrld with a whole chapter devoted to Easter Island. GREAT read on that . Wish we had a thread of just books--anyone into that ? Here are some pics :
Really enjoying the book---pretty fascinating stuff. |

Hey, Surf! I think you need a Polynesian Bust 12-step program. You're right! I found one today with the foil label intact that clearly says Lego. I thought mine said Lefton, but I guess it's kinda distorted on the felt. I wasn't sure, that's why I was pondering out loud. Unfortunately, someone got offended. I sleep with the Lego one on the right side of my pillow & the Marwal one on the left. How 'bout you? |

Hmmm..mine doesn't have a foil sticker..just white writing. Not like I REALLY care but first Bill you need a 12 step program for addiction to busts (not those busts Tipsy!) and second what the heck ever. If I am wrong and mine is a Lego instead of a Lefton do I really care? Nah. I bought mine for super cheap in A+ condition and that is all that keeps me going! Mine isn't made of ceramic though or chalkware but a heavy molded plastic so if this is the norm than I give in and Lego my Eggo ! BY the way .....I really enjoy the friendly info/fact banter about items such as these. I feel like no matter who is "right" I learn so much from everyone esp. in instances like this :) Duane glad to see you found some stuff in Paris. Always good to get some international collecting in :) (Big Kahuna I didnt even see that you had said something about a 12 step program ! lol..guess we think alike!) Rick, You are smokin' on fire with those finds. If you are up for some more trades, you know where to find me! Slow day, over 100 degrees here today, went to the flea early and left early to go to Swanbergs and the Pacific Rim Festival. All I found was this...

OK! Today wasn't a total loss! I scored this kool Ku statue. Not sure what he's made of. He's heavier than the Hapa or Lava statues. The logo on the bottom appears to be DCP. It also says Made In Hawaii. Any info on this guy, kids? |

That looks like it may have been a master used to create molds for CoCo Joe's or HIP pieces. You've had some amazing finds this week! About all I ever find around here are army's of Benihana mugs. The Typee book is beautiful! The Kahlua Hut mug is, what seems to be, a less common version with the name near the center (as opposed to the bottom) and without the long hair and beads. Regarding the CoCo Joe's piece; personally, I'd keep it wrapped. |

Spent the day thrift store shopping and this is what I came home with... Some Tiki and some not but going in the basement bar... A couple Coco Joe's with the labels on the back telling what they are, the flat one is a pen holder someone took off the pen part but it will look better hanging on the wall anyway and a little tiki . |
