Found a pair yesterday at my favorite Goodwill store.

My friend Fishsticks was offered some old shop equipment from a cow orker of his. They were clearing out some uncle's possessions and when there amid the cast offs Fishsticks saw this tiki. The uncle, who did quite a bit of woodworking, had made it and the family had no interest in it so it went home with Fishsticks.

I think it's a really swell home craft piece, I'd guess it was made following a how-to plan in a book or pamphlet. As best as I could tell it's made from a solid piece of wood, all the detail done with basic cuts. The eyes are the only section glued on. (I think it reminds me of that particular bar tool set from Japan but I didn't feel like tracking down the images for comparison.)

I couldn't recall where I had seem images of the set. I thought there was a post on TC about it recently.

I own B.O.T. and Tiki Modern and I have recommended both books (with your name as the author) to so many absolute strangers that should you ever sign a copy of one of your books for me I would like the inscription to read "Thanks for all the hard work!"

How gratifying to hear, woofter, many Mahalos! You are absolved, and now can merely be chided for not yet having completely internalized every page of Tiki Modern, and each of its 700 images! :D

Found a few red Trader Vic Port Light glasses this weekend. Too bad they didn't have any green ones. (After I posted this I got quite a few requests to sell these, so I'm reposting under tiki marketplace.)

I have this exact same lamp! Found it in a thrift store for $10. Mine had a metal female bowler figurine mounted on the flat front piece. I immediately removed it. Truly a fantastic lamp that melds polynesia with Atomic/mid-century lines.

That's a real heartbreaker. I would use 5 min. epoxy, but now it's just a display mug, ya dig?

Luckily, that's a pretty clean break. You'll be able to fix it enough to display it. Were either of those moai mugs labelled? OMC sticker? Restaurant marking? They're not common finds in these here parts!

Here are my finds from the last couple of weeks:

"Poolside Pineapple" mug from The New Frontier, Vegas; 3 Don Ho Polynesian Palace glasses; Tiki bottle opener; and Tiki Farm/Crazy Al Ono Lono mug. The last two were gifts from friends who went to Hawaii earlier in the year. I was curious about this cheap-looking mug from the Frontier (when did they ever have tiki mugs!?) so I did a little research on this Poolside Pineapple company. Turns out they're a Vegas-based novelty drinkware distributor. Looks like they did all of Kahunaville's mugs and glasses, including the volcano which is actually not a bad mug. They also do a lot of the oversized, plastic "yard" vessels and that sort of thing. So far, it doesn't look like anyone's put up any info on TC (probaby because they're just a small step up from Party City products) but I've seen at least one other person who found one of their mugs and asked what they're all about. I also found my first black velvet. At least, it was the first I thought was suitable for my bar (I see mostly cute animal paintings or mountain/lake landscapes, but the occasional tall ship has tempted me more than once). Plus, it was only $5.99 and it's pretty big - about 2'x4'. Not quite worthy of the black velvet thread, though.

I have one very similar; my [taller] shade part has corner and horizontal bars (no inside vertical), and instead of the polka dot panel to the right, it has a round "globe" map of the islands floating above Diamondhead. And to the left of and "behind" the shorter, more S-curved palm tree, it has a "tapa" panel (in inlaid wood) in a long, bar form.

Mine too came with a doohickey on the flat surface to the left - a knob. Like, a chest-of-drawers knob. (?)
I replaced it with a monkeypod wood little Ku (the wood matches exactly). Your comment about the bowling figurine now causes me to think someone replaced something else with the stupid knob.

But mine I paid handsomely for, you lucky bastards both; I forked over $100 to an antique store on Magazine Street in New Orleans a few years ago. I just loved it too much and I'd never seen anything like it before (and until now - you lucky free-or-$10 bastards!). Besides my actual bar itself, it's the most I've ever spent on a single tiki item. But I don't regret one cent, so for me it was worth it. Ya gotta do that: "Is it worth that much to ME?" and if the answer is yes, ya gotta do it.

But usually, I'm the cheapest SOB out there..... (E.g., I will pay no more than $20 for any Witco - because that's what I've paid for the two great masks I've found!)
