I would like to "find" a Smokin' Joe Flask by Von Franco/TikiFarm. I've totally struck out on Ooga-mooga (two guys say they're selling but never return mail) and ebay. Anyone out there want to sell one? |

I was working away in Wales this week, so decided to hit a few Charity shops and Junk stores whilst in the area. It paid off... Island Magic by the Kontikis. Nice art cover featuring stylized Islands, Dolphins and Outriggers. A great write up about the authenticity (or lack of) of the tracks on the album, and a final paragraph which sums up Poly Pop for me - "Call it escapism, if you like, a sort of wish-fulfilment. 1965 UK compilation of Martin Dennys 20 'Hawaiian Hits' Raffia picture frame. A little TLC and this should look great. |

Scored this awesome carved tiki by Billy the Crud at a raffle at Frankie's Tiki Room last night. It's about 18 inches tall. My only other carved tiki is about 8 inches, so this is a nice addition to the home tiki bar! Had a great time too. If you travel to Las Vegas, Frankie's is a must. |

Awesome day at the boring library. Our library is ususally pretty bad, very small not a good selection and it tends to be disorganized. Looking through the cart of free books donated and they are not keeping... I find a hardback copy of Aku-Aku with slip cover 1958 4th edition. Still Overjoyed getting in the car, my excellent wife hands me a copy of "headhunting in the samoan islands, 1st printing" that i totally over looked. Excellent day. |

See folks, going to your local library is a good thing! On the internet you would have had to pay for these books. I think you mean "Headhunting in the Solomon Islands". Samoans didn't do that. But then again, this is Polynesian pop, so hey. I am fascinated by that book's popularity! Not to diminish your find, but in the 90s, when I was researching the BOT, that was THE book I found one or more copies of in every Used Books store. I really would like to find out more about the impact of the book in its own time, I bet LIFE Magazine did an article on it, the equivalent of being on Oprah today. It recently inspired two women to follow the original author and artist's tracks: http://explore.wingsworldquest.org/Papua_New_Guinea_Solomon_Islands_Melanesia_Exp |

Just scored a huge collection of Hawaiian Eye items from a collector of "77 Sunset Strip": Includes head shots and bios from the studio in 1962, the board game, some production cast sheets, quite a few behind-the-scenes photos from an episode, a lenticular button, the book, the album, a Poncie Ponce album, a carved logo and a large replica of the signature tiki!! |

Finally after years of searching for a vintage jacket in the wild I found this one. Made by Sandwich Isles in British Hong Kong in the 1960's. A fantastic print and color with mother of pearl inlaid buttons and it fits perfect. |

Big score for me yesterday from a group of antique stores south of Lansing, Michigan. Not as unique as what others are finding lately... but dang it, I've been searching for the tiki Treasure Craft S&P's forever it seems like! ($3) The three large Westwoods were just $7 for all three. I also bought another swag lamp, not in the picture. The little Westwoods cost me $2.50 each and the Fu Manchu was $8, which is high, I think, but it's marked Orchids of Hawaii, R-82, Japan. |

Quite right, bigbrotiki Headhunting in the Solomon Islands: Around the Coral Sea, thats the one! The Aku-aku has a personal note written by people who gave it to Tom Underwood as a gift. Tom was a very good friend of my father and did a lot of good for the people and artists here in cherokee. So both these finds turned out to be very personal for me. |
