Wow Tikisgrl, nice finds. I had the exact same idea today!
But I only went to one Goodwill and came up empty.

Actually, as I was telling the world where I found these I realized I miscounted. I actually found these at the fifth Salvation Army of the day! Just in case anyone is wondering where their nearest store is on the East Coast or elsewhere here is a nice link:

Find a Salvation Army Store

It's all about being in the right place at the right time! Yesterday was my day I guess? Happy hunting everyone!

First genuine "in-the-wild" Coco Joe's find, scored at a local garage/estate sale yesterday. I've taken the pen holder off and cleaned it up to hang on the wall next to my other CJ's desk piece.

I was just saying to myself a few days ago that it had been a long time since I had found one of those wooden philipino Ku mugs.

Then I found two. And a late model CocoJoes 109 Lono, tagless.

And some real cheap non- vintage glass floats with cork rings

Buzzy Out!

I've been to my local Salvation Army store probably 30 times without a tiki find (excluding exotica records), but finally I got lucky recently when I spotted this on a shelf...

And last week, on a brief trip to Vegas, I found this one for cheap...

A lovely bunch of coconuts.

Today's crap:

A KC tiki tealight

A not KC/ chiefly Chinese made tiki magnet

A Hawaiian style outrigger with a tapa cloth sail

I think this is the assembled version of the one Tikicar found last month in the original box

From tikicar's post:

Buzzy Out!

[ Edited by: Bay Park Buzzy 2007-11-25 14:50 ]

Hey Buzzy. Your outrigger appears to made by the same company as the one I have. Anekona Hawaii. The kit came with a kool little book on the history of the outrigger .Nice find.

OH NO!! outrriger showdown!

Hey thanks for posting UncleTrav. It looks like yours is a more complex version of mine, and the box looks like an older version than the one Tikicar found. The hull shape is the same on all of them, as well as the sails, so I think these were all from the same manufacturer.
I lost the showdown because I don't have the box or book. :(
Buzzy Out!

My current hall from assorted charity stores and jumble sales of Orkney..

one tall Tiki and a peedie tiki with a slot in the top probably a place-card holder.

two Maori dolls, both with the tiny hai-tikis around there necks.

Hula girl decanter marked "Exclusive Drloll (or Driall its a bit blurred) MADE IN ITALY)

Green Parrot mug with a big H and PENANG on both sides, marked Penang on the bottom as well.
I've checked and penang is a city in Malaysia but is also the name of a cocktail, anybody recognize where this mug came from?

I was skunked today by Buzzy :P "DAAAAMNN YOUUU BUUZZZYYYYY!!!" With my fist in the air and teeth clinched in disdain.

Hey AtomicTonyTiki,

How about that SkullSplitter? Maybe when you come out this way you could sneek a cask on the plane.

A couple of old finds. The spatula has a very curved handle.

Gotta love congas.

Skullsplitter was the first "real ale" I ever drank, but back then in 1991 skullsplitter came in little bottles and was 30 proof, which is crazy strong for an ale, but then they changed the recipe once they sold it outside of the island.

A couple of good scores this weekend, first although not technically tiki, a picture of a ginger plant painted on glass that lights up to illuminate the plant, it weighs a ton.

Then I found a coconut mug from The Cinerama in Hawaii adorned with tikis. This made my week since I had one of these years ago that got destroyed during a move, it's nice to have it back again.

I love the Salvation Army!!!!

Just the plate came from Sally's, the rest are Flea Market & Antique finds. I think matches & swizzles are a complete no no @ Sally's I've never seen any.

I struck tiki gold at an estate sale today. They claimed these candle lamps were from Trader Vic's circa 1960's. They are in pretty dilapidated shape. They hold candles, and the inner tube is fiberglass. There is also a fiberglass interior for the lamp shades. They are burnt and cracked in places.

My question is: Can anyone verify that these are authentic Trader Vic's lamps? And, if so, any idea of their value? Also, are they worth trying to restore? Or just finding new hardware and lamp shades?

Thanks!!!

UT

Damn nice find Billbot!!! No one man needs two of those so I'll take one of your hands. Just pull'n yer chain. Those look like Trader Vic's to me. It's the same tiki used on some of the menu covers. Strange that Vic's never used the "peanut man" mug design for their own drinks, as far as I know. If they were mine I would just clean them up with a damp cloth. Maybe a couple of new shades maybe something from Tiki Skip. I'd keep them as candles too. I kind like the old used look, kinda shows that they made it this far. Great find . Post some more pic's when you decide what to do with them.

The rain stopped, the clouds parted, and the sun came out today. Great day to go hunting.

Found a United Royal Hawaiian menu:

Some mugs from the Accoutrements 2001 line

and the Accoutrements 2001 and 2002 line

and finally Tiki Farm Al Evans mug and a Daga surfer

I also got the wooden center part of a trophy or something. It has a Frank Schirmann piece(or a less detailed knockoff) affixed to it:

I took a couple other pieces I had lying around and reconstructed the trophy to what I believe to be its original state:

It was a tiki Hawaiian warrior Oahu map trophy.

Buzzy Out!

So I don't know were to post this, but HELP!!!. My wife, stole my August Holland "pearls of wisdom" from my tiki office and put it in our bedroom...arrhhhh. Now the perfect wall sits bare, so I have no choice but to find one of the other 2 "harder" to find prints. Anyone...help............ (please) :)

yep, those are vics alright..i still have one. got directly off the table at trader vics chicago.(no, i didn't steal it).

they would put a plastic jar with a wick and some oil in it and those would be the table lights(you can still buy these from a restaurant supply store)...the fiberglass plastic tube slid over it and the shade just rested on top. i sold one on ebay a couple years back..don't remmeber what it sold for exactly but it was about $300 bucks or so...you could probably get the same today, but they have to be in really good condition..no chips or breaks in the wood....the burnt shade doesn't help either.

on a side note...before trader vics closed in the palmer house chicago, they did have many new resin tiki lamps that were modeled directly from these vintage lamps you got here, only they were all consistent in size since they came from a mold and were not individually carved. they were real nice and clean lookin, using the same peanut man maori design. i never got to purchase one before they closed. I guess traders remakes them for some of their bars...you will probably see tham on the tables again when they reopen here next year....

We had a summer of a tiki drought and found nothing then suddenly the last month and a half have been very good!

This is the back of a Hinano shirt from Goodwill($2), brand new with tags. I actually got the books for free from a friend, I was very excited to get the Leeteg book. Also got the Last Gasp Leeteg book for $7 (not pictured). various hawaiian tikis ($2 each) and a Monterey tiki mug $7 (thrift stores are catching on to us) and Kahiki mug $2.

Mugs from Goodwill $3 each. And matchbook from ebay $4.

And finally, while about to leave an crappy toy show I found a huge bag of matchbooks. Nearly passed out when I pulled out a Tiki Bob's. Others gotten, Don the Beachcomer, Aloha Jhoes and Trader Sams and some other neat San Francisco ones. The whole lot cost me $3 total.

between the Leeteg book and the matchbooks I doubt I will have any more finds until march!

Nice finds Tiare, especially the Tiki Bob's and Trad'r Sam matchbooks!
Aloha,
:tiki:

Couple of finds as I've been doing some Christmas shopping. The first is a wind-up musical coconut by Rainbow Crafts. Made from a real coconut shell, it plays "Beyond the Reef".

The second is a "magazine" or pamphlet promoting a Cinerama production, South Seas Adventure. I am not aquainted with Cinerama, but will be when I get through reading the 12 pages. The copy dates it as 1958.

Finally a haul, after a unspeakable dry spell here in Ventura

Black guy from the Tiki's Monterey Park gold OMG sticker but the name on the bottom almost looks hand done

the smaller guys are peanut style tumbles

Recent finds in the past month:

Two Trader Dick's surfer girl mugs.
A Bosko Kumu mug.
A very nice Trader Vic's fogcutter mug dated 1984.
A Trader Vic's Port Light glass.

All except the Port Light glass were found in various thrifts, and the Port Light was found in an antique store.

Since nothing has happened here for awhile, I thought I would post my recent finds. First is a new wood tiki made in china of course but 25cents so I had to save him, then the plastic peanut man, found 6 at goodwill, last but not least is a find for uncle trav to check out that I found in the Grand Turks a couple of weeks ago, he has a brother that I may uncork tonight. Have a good one.

I came across a black lava Okolehao bottle at Value Village today. I pondered whether it was worth the $25 they were asking because 1. I already have one, and 2. like my first one, this one didn't have the ashtray/base. I didn't think about it for long - I decided that it was probably still a good deal and I wanted it. Then when I was waiting in line I saw a shopping cart on the other side of the till that was empty except for the missing base. I grabbed it, of course. The cashier said that someone tried to buy it because they thought it was an ashtray!

I found the Westwood Spice set of 6 during lunch today for 10 bucks. The bottoms are marked Japan.

I found this cool Tiki Bar at an antique store in Tarpon Springs FL last weekend.

UrlScheib, Great find! how much did you pay and did it come with stools?

S

Nice Bar! Here is a find from a yard sale. This tiki is from Korea, the woman having the sale who's husband passed away, was a professor of Korean studies at the university and was given this by a student many years ago. This is made of some indiginous wood from Korea and I have appropriately named this guy "Kim Cheeki".

Very cool, Su-Tiki!

Today's stuff:

A big old candle. It's 9" tall and about 5" wide. I gladly paid $1.

I always wanted one of these. Grabbed it for $1, but I had to promise the guy that I wasn't buying it for the booze inside.

This hula girl plays music and spins. Cheap, but not one dollar.

This is proof that I will pretty much buy anything for $1:

I love dollar day!

It cost $360 including delivery - No stools however.

I got this for 1$ at an antique mall today:

Is that a stir stick or a paddle?

( and what is it photo'd on? nice grain!)

I found these cool vintage tiki things at a thrift store for 1.00 each~ anyone know where they might have originated from? The mask is heavy wood, and the little guy is light wood with a metal holder of some sort on top of his flat head (he also sports another ummmm, head~ as pictured)

The mask at top is most likely Jamaican by the look of the style and carve.

As usual, some really great finds by everyone lately!

Some of my recent purchases...

FI green mugs...

Which I still believe would look very good with a lid!

Large Trader Vic's Three Moai Scorpion bowl.

Tiki Farm Skull mug.

Kona Club Oakland CA mai tai glass.

2002 Tiki Farm mug from the now defunct Hulilau Island Grill in Sacramento.

And, the elusive "Blue Hawaii" moai mug made by OMC (who really knows where this is from)?

Happy New Year to you all,

Psycho Tiki D (I know I am and I look forward to next year's finds)!

I found this bowl in an LA thrift store a few days ago. Anyone seen this one before? Nothing on Ooga Mooga. It features 3 round-headed tikis supporting a large roundish bowl. The tikis and the outside of the bowl are rough and unfinished. The inside of the bowl has a brown glaze. This bowl is large at approximately 9" wide (tiki to tiki), with each tiki at about 5 1/2" high. Sitting next to a similarly designed Orchids of Hawaii bowl, it is MUCH larger.

The bottom reads "Kahala Hilton, Terra-Ceramics, Hawaii" and is not dated.

The Arkiva Tropika website shows a menu for the Hala Terrace at the Kahala Hilton in Honolulu. The menu has a drawing of a rum punch served in "The Menehune Bowl" (for $1.80!) that may represent this bowl. I couldn't find anything on Terra-Ceramics.

I assume this bowl is from the 60's or 70's but maybe it's more recent?

Great score ScarabaTiki! I have not seen that piece, let alone any other piece from the Kahala Hilton (now the Mandarin Oriental). Interestingly enough, I have a couple pieces from the Hilton Hawaiian Village which have a similar glaze and inscription on the bottom. Perhaps Terra-Ceramics made mugs and bowls for both Hilton locations.
Aloha,
:tiki:
