Hi All! My first post in this forum. I keep meaning to post my occasional tiki finds, but if I don't do it right away it never happens! LOL

So, I just scored this awesome mint condition Orchids of Hawaii R-82 mug for $1.99 today at a local resale shop. YES!! Tiki is pretty rare in Houston, but it does happen. :)

The rainbow is the old school University Of Hawaii logo.

Hello, was wondering if this forum could help me identify a sculpture I was given from my grandmothers estate. Family story was that it is from a famous hawaiian carver. I remember her having it for the last 40 years. But the actual age after that is unknown.looks to be carved from a 6 inch by 6 inch block of wood. Not sure of the wood but it is not to heavy. It is about 18 inches tall. There is a name possibly on the back. Picture shows letters. T r d o e t Thanks for any info.

Picked up this 7'3" half-log today. Kind of a love-it-or-hate-it piece, as most of my friends and neighbors seemed aghast. Lots of splits and nasty wood putty all over. There are 4 holes in each side with bolts going through it - apparently to keep it from splitting any more. So I dubbed it "Frankenstein" for now; also because the carved references are from various 'parts' of Asia and Hawaii.

The more I looked at it the more I had to have this thing. There's no history, except that it's from Yucaipa, it's hardwood and couldn't have been easy to carve this much detail. It was someone's labor of love. Maybe someone on acid?

From a distance it looks fairly simple, but as I got closer the detail kept drawing me in - like falling into a Mandelbrot set. Trippy.

I like some of this fella’s work.That said, I didn’t feel this rated a new tread so hopefully "tiki finds" is a good place to post a few pics of the mug I bought from Alex , a pic of one of his flyers and a pic of a “shield Alex made with a sheet, some bamboo and some paint. Also a lot of creativity. He and his wife had a booth at the Aloha Festival (Santa Fe Springs.Ca.)

Found these at the Goodwill today. I've got no idea who sets the prices there... only paid 59 cents each for them. The mugs I've gotten there before are usually in the %2.49 to $3 range (the notorious Benehana Geisha mugs still there for %3.99).

Backs are marked "Aloha from Johnstone Supply".

Johnstone Supply is a chain of A/C and Refrigeration parts and equipment supplies. I imagine these were some sort of give-a-way to contractors who used their equipment and supplies.

I did look on Ooga-Mooga to see what mugs these were. Put "Tiki Farm" in the searchbox and looked through all 12 pages....couldn't find it. Soooo.....am I just looking in the wrong place? Or do I have a yet to be submitted design? Better yet, maybe I have a design made just for Johnstone Supply made in limited numbers (I know...wishful thinking)?

In order to display the bracelets and necklaces you would need to open and close the clasp to hang them on the display.
It's probably why they're no longer used. People were too lazy to operate the mechanism and they probably just laid the jewelry all over the display.

You could re-purpose the display as a bar towel rack.

This is a jewelry rack you can buy on Amazon. It has a better design because you can lift the bars off of their supports for easier access to your jewelry, but essentially it's the same thing you've got.

Went by an estate sale today and found this this neat heavy canvas print. The sellers dad bought it while stationed in Hawaii in the late 40's-early 50's. It's pretty big, too heavy to be a table cloth.

What would you use it for?

I'll probably end up framing it. I paid a lot for it (I think) 50.00, the colors are nice and bright, and I liked the size. These pictures are off the craigslist ad, I have it in the garage "airing" out.

Printed fabrics like that were commonly sold as souvenirs. Silks were common in the 50s, but if that piece was produced during the war when quality materials were scarce, it might explain the coarser material. Is there any sort of date on it?

Along with my tiki matchbook collection, I also have a lot(maybe 20) of other topical collections I look for on occasion. One is Indians, another is pinups/nudes. A couple additions to those collections are in here too. I really like the loco Redskin with the tomahawk and scalp in his hand! Images like this reminds me when some hippie chicks in my college Native American classes were all pissed of at the Atlanta Braves logo.

I passed on a Lono and KU from this maker that were with the new one because I'm out of space for Hawaiian stuff right now :( What else by this company is out there? I've seen a few(5?) that I don't have on ebay over the years. Seems they go a little out of my budget...I think I heard they are/were available at the Bishop Museum gift shop.

Gotta thin the herd at Oasis this year to make room for future acquisitions...What's gonna have to go?

Tahitian/Marquesan pole. Has shallow peg holes plugged on the top and bottom, so was made to be 'stacked'.

Only info I have is that it came from an estate sale outside of DC.

Did OA make these poles? Could it have come from the DC Vic's? Vic's is the only place I've seen these, but what do the experts say? Thanks for any helpful info!

Found this at a Huntington Beach Goodwill Thurs, Afternoon. I seem to recall that TikiFarm was selling similar ones a couple of years ago. ??? Btw, that’s a ceramic piece adhered to the shaker-not a decal.

Yes, they are machine-carved from OA. I had a set (still have one) that were painted. They ARE pretty awesome!

Here's a curious little guy I found yesterday. The markings on the bottom end with "Tremain." Artist piece? It's heavy cast plaster or similar, and was made to hang on a wall. Any ideas?

From his headdress I'm guessing maybe it's supposed to be Lono? Or just a generic tiki. I'd say tourist piece, but who cares? As long as you like it! :)

Yes, That is one of those wood carved Hawaiian Tourist Tikis
all of us collect them, many are vintage from the 50s & 60s
but can be new, also.

The quality can range from very nice to mass produced, but it probably
came from a gift store or airport shop in Hawaii
They look nice in groups
