Found this guy last weekend at a flea market in Atlanta. Feels/looks like he has some age to him. Know nothing about him.

A couple of cool weekend finds. This is the first mug I have found from the Latitude 20 and it's a long way from home.

Second find was an awesome full size replica toggle-iron harpoon. This thing is cool and I'll be putting it in the home bar. I'm not sure if I should leave the wood all worn looking or put on a coat of amber shellac.

When I go out hunting, I usually hit my Mapmywalk app to track how far I walk around looking on each trip. I just got the first half of 2014 summary:

55 workouts, 149.43 miles, 3.39 days

I probably have 5 more trips at least I erased because I drove off without stopping the app, and another 5 or so where I forgot to track it. Other than that, that's how much time and ground I covered the first 6 months of 2014,ooking for tiki crap.

A little over 5 miles trekked for these this week:

Daga Kuaui Resort, westwood jigger, and a new green maori shot mug

I used to see these all the time. Not so much anymore...

Unmarked resin Tahitian hula girl. Hope it's not KC...

Never seen it before.

As you are probably aware we lost a member of our Tiki Ohana in Sacramento a couple months ago. I purchased this shelve to display the mugs I purchased from his family. I will post some pictures soon, once I have a chance to make some adjustments to my collection. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to own part of Steve's collection.

Aloha Steve,

Pickin's have been mighty slim here. I was going to pass up this homebrew mug (marked on the bottom "2012 Jenn"....sorry to embarrass you on a worldwide scale.), but figured I'd go ahead and conduct the "Age-Old Polynesian ritual of sacrificing a couple dead presidents to the Almighty Polynesian God of Buffoonery" and see if the adoption of this poor mis-glazed fellow would appease the gods into releasing a few more treasures into the wild.

recently was clued in to this fabulous rattan score at a local shop - the photo shows a portion of what was there. There was quite a bit more, including rattan ashtray stands, plant stands and a killer 4 piece turquoise upholstered pie shaped ottoman set. chairs were $50, sofas were $75. no cushions.

was lucky to get out there asap before it was all snapped up. - someone else got the plant stands, ashtrays and turquoise ottoman set, but we managed to get these 2 chairs (our brown cushions), an ottoman for $15 and the end table (seen in the pic with the 2 basket style chairs) which was thrown in for free because we bought to chairs.

there remaining stuff was bought quickly and one of the buyers has a bunch of it listed on ebay right now for over $1000.

BK,

Great scores as usual. Those Lanai mugs are from the restaurant that was started by Monte Proser in New York city that later became the famous Hawaii Kai. I have menu, which you can see here

Found these in an antique store while driving through Florida. I'm sure the Lemon Hart and Lambs rum bottles are not that old but the Chartreuse and Wray & Nephew look like they could be. It's a shame there is no way of knowing exactly how old they are.

The Chartreuse has an old tax label across the top, any info on it? I've lived in Florida for 30 years, can't remember there ever being a tax label on any bottles that I've seen (maybe it's a county or city tax.....). Used to see them on bottles my parents bought in Kansas back in the '70s, dunno if they still put them on the bottles there anymore.

Of course, after I post, I find this online with plenty of info on dating bottles. Tax stamp was manditory before '85, so it's that old. Lots of other info that can probably help narrow it down.

Thanks David and thanks for the info and link howlinowl.

Based on the information from the link you provided it appears the Chartreuse bottle is definitely pre 1970's as the measurement on the bottle says 1/16 PINT. The tax label is hard to read. I could only make out the first half of the stamp on it until i read the back of the bottle which says the U.S. distributor was Schieffelin, then the tax label became clear.

Schieffelin & Co. New York, N.Y.

After googling that name i found these links;

While dusting some of my mugs I came across this little brown tiki mug. No markings on it and I don’t have a clue as to how I came to own it. It’s smaller then most mugs and appears to be the work of a hobbyist.

Finally posting here. Here are some recent "finds" i.e. purchases.

While taking pics of the old South Seas restaurant (cool Samoan Poly Pop architecture), near the airport in Honolulu (now a Kia car dealership), I decided to go down the road to La Mariana tiki restaurant. I have not been there for at least a year. The place was packed on a Thursday afternoon and it looked cleaned up. Anyway after acquiring about their standard tiki mug at the bar, a waitress said, to me, to go ask the manager at the front to open the gift shop for you. What gift shop? I've been here for years and I never known of a gift shop. For some reason you have to ask the manger to get in but no one knows about the shop so no one asks. Here's what I've bought:

Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/75931/53c8c785.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=69a3097f05afef62634f6fabfeec7d03
One of two versions of the coffee mug has a tiki handle, I bought that one.
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/75931/53c8c7a2.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=09fee44570b1efec9fbfd434ab3980c8
Also bought a tee-shirt (one of many). I bought this one, the tiki version of course.
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/75931/53c8c7ec.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=1ea1ebf8430ac29788d957c557be1c14
Some mugs, like the standard one at the bar, come in different colors. These standard mugs are not available in the shop only at the bar. Don't ask me why.

A week later, last Sunday, I went to the summer's Collector's Show in Honolulu. Besides some South Seas movie lobby cards, some common mugs and the cheap old Kikkerland moai plastic pepper grinder, I bought this framed tiki. I love it and one of a few highlighted pieces that will go in my future tiki bar.

Finally I bought these tiki socks last month at Tommy Bahamas located at Ala Moana Shopping Center. They also had a cool Kon tiki tee shirt ($$$) but both items are hidden in a drawer and you have to ask for tiki stuff or you'll also never know about them. What's up with all this hiding tiki?

Hope this helps other hunters for tiki, in Hawaii anyway.

It's marked with a patent number and "hand carved in hawaii monkey pod" on the bottom.
I figured booze came inside...
Somebody has been using it as a candle holder and the wax dicked up the finish...

Man Buzzy, you know everything... Lol

Now what's up with the giant hula girl? Never seen one that big or heavy... Bookend? Or just a big statue?

Here's the patent page from for it one of the 3 TC threads on Tiki Patents:

It had a glass dipper that came out of the head and the body had a perfume jar in it. The jar was loose, I assumed so you could switch fragrances. The one I had, the bottle was marked with a printed sticker that had the perfume's name.

One of my favorite all time pieces is the hapawood sister version of her:

Don't know if they were intended as bookends, but most of the Jumbo HIPS had much smaller matching versions in the more standard sizes as well. There's a set of dancers and drummers by them that are pretty tall.
I think the tallest I've seen so far is this Coco Joes:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/53cc81be.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=883380f8617c1d11eae934c6b14a8835

HIP made a few Jumbo sized tikis too. Here is a couple I have:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/53cc81d1.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=b22808bdb37a8bc024821f245c262a0d

At some point or another, pretty much any tiki with a flat back will be listed as a bookend on ebay. HIP did sell several smaller pieces as sets of two, with stickers that described them as bookends. I would think if the big ones were intended as bookends, the tags would denote that.

Thanks for answering my questions... I appreciate it. I've collected this junk for 20 years and still am constantly learning stuff.

I was so happy about the original Trader Vics Mai Tai Joe decanter for $3.00 that I didn't give much thought to that little wooden perfume guy... I just knew I couldn't pass him up for a $1.00

The whole time I was thinking "great, now I gotta go home, get the wax off him and see if there are online instructions on how to refinish Monkeypod wood"....
