Very good.

Tiki central members have always tended to yell "bootleg" or "homemade" every time they see something they have never seen before. Congrats to aquarj and the others who actually did some research and digging before just yelling fake based on their "knowledge".

Congrats nui' umi' umi...I've collected 20+ years and never found one in the wild.

Mahalo Randy,Eric, Buzzy, TikiComa, and Uncle T. I had no idea there were so many variants. Will my collecting ever end?
Cheers

New stuff:

Easter Island Make-make crown- God of the rain 18" x 8"

Harvey's OMC stickered bowl

Another variant of this War God sculpt to add to the collection:

Buzzy Out!

David- nice one
Buzz- like that Easter Island piece

Speaking of DTB barrels
Do you guys think the one I found on Oahu
was just washed 1000 times? No color on it.
Just white

Here's the ooga one and mine

Found at a thrift this morning. Harvey’s bucket mugs are fairly common in So Cal, more so in northern Cal. The shaker is a Grey Goose promo-I grab em when I see em. Savers is having a 50 percent off veterans day sale.
Cheers

I've never seen one with that much brown on it with that font style labeling either.

I think it's a knockoff!

Love that Easter Island piece Buzzy.

I scored a few things today. First are these two carvings. The Rarotongan was a surprise find and there was a maori carving next to it but i left that behind as i didn't like it very much and i also didn't think it was worth what they were asking. The maori wall hanging on the right, although i think is quite ugly, was something different that i've never seen before and was a good size for the price.

Now my real score was a pair of these chairs. Daisy approved them right away. They're no nine band Paul Frankl's but i think they are awesome and are surprisingly comfortable, And i got them for an absolute steal, $50AUS for the pair which works out at around $36US. I'll make some new cushion covers for them and need to glue down the wrapping that has come apart that hides the join around the base (you can't see it in this pic) but other than that they are in great condition. I'd like to know how old they are. I'm thinking 70's.

Went to the antique mall on Monday. Was delighted to find some stuff from the Beachcomber (Edmonton). I bought this table lamp and mug:

I passed on this 1920's REO Speedwagon (in running condition, apparently):

Value Village was having their 50% off sale today, and while my wife was off checking saris and things, I found these two knick-knacks... An officer of the Queen with the inscription "Bols" and "Made in Holland" inscribed on the bottom, and my first Tiki souvenir mug from a place I've never been to. Since I've never been there, I have no particular attachment to it, if anyone has been looking for one of these mugs to buy or swap.

EDIT: I did some more digging and found out that the figure is an empty gin bottle from Bols, manufactured by Zenith, and looks like a Royal Bahamas Police officer.

Amazing photos of The Palace

A few thing found this Summer/Fall:

TreasureCraft ashtray and finally found a black Harveys mug in the wild. The paint is in nice shape too!

The lady I got the mug from had used it to keep her long fireplace matches in. I figured that explained the striker patch glued on the back. Has anyone else has seen this done on a mug before?

Always hoped to find one of these banks.

Some matchbooks

And these two awesome vintage United Airlines wall posters. Now to get them framed.

8ft- I saw that last poster on an episode in season 5

I posted this in my thread in the 'other crafts' section but thought i'd post it here too. A ships wheel i found in a thrifstore with what looks like an Eastern European diorama in it which i removed and then tikified.

And today i found this. I've wanted a really big PNG mask for a while now but they are always really expensive and/or damaged so i was happy with this find. It wasn't until i got home that i noticed there is a little bit of damage above each eye but it really is hardly noticable. Unless i find something for an absolute bargain, this will probably be the last PNG piece i'll buy, now that i have this bad boy. Approx 27" tall and 20" wide.

I found a few nice things this week

27" Marquesan club. Heavy sucker. Set me back a mere $20!

22" Bora Boraslit drum. It has a cool profile of Bora Bora carved on one side. Hula dancer on the other

21" Tahitian tiki dagger thingy

11" Kavakava man on a stand

Found these at a thrift Saturday afternoon. I was pretty sure the Moai was made by Libbey even before I turned it around and looked at the front. I have several of their snaggletoothed mugs in various colors and Libbey’s glaze’s are distinctive and easy to spot. Haven’t seen the Moai before-I like the clean lines. The bobblehead has “freaky Tiki”inscribed on the base.

Went to Disneyland a few days ago and got all of these. I really love the Halloween mugs wasn't sure I would like them.

Picked up this vintage four piece five band pretzel sofa in San Anselmo on the way to Sonoma this morning.

They also had this vintage coffee table.

I asked if they had any tiki mugs and I was able to pick up these vintage mugs from the Tonga Room, The Islander and pre release Forbidden Island mugs.

Vato- nice peanut
I don't have that 1

Saw this today at the Tommy Bahama store
Smaller than my other copy
$9.95

And this at an antique store

Here are my 3 versions

New Tahitian pieces are:Two Paddles, one giant at over 5 feet long. An Adze, a panel carving, smalldagger and a tiki pipe! Also a Palau storyboard.

For some reason all my photos stick sideways like  this. Ill post more details later when I figure it out. I just upgraded to windows 10 and no matter what I do vertical pics end up like that on TC....

Here is the last two weeks worth of stuff:

Long club on top is 5 feet 4 inches.

My wallet hurts!

Good!!! I'm sure i'm not the only one who is extremely envious of all your amazing finds but i must say it is very satisfying to know that at least you aren't necessarily getting them all for a bargain also. :P

I've never seen any of these on my journeys before so it was quite a surprise to find two yesterday within the space of a couple of hours.

T

HAHA, GROG double posted again! OK Buzzy here's one you didn't get!
It's mine! All Mine!
Swizzle I've always loved those Maori canoes, nice find's.

Let's se what you think. In my opinion, it wsnt any particular item that was pricey, it was the bulk of it coming in the span of 7 days that killed me...

What I paid, all in US dollars, no tax:

(left to right in photo above)
Vertical Paddle on far left $50
Largest Horizontal Paddle on top $125
Club on left $20
Adze on top of horizontal row $50
Tiki pipe $15
Tiki dagger $15
Tiki dagger $15
Tahitian panel $50
Kava Kava man $20
Slit drum $20
Storyboard $25

Today's stuff

Maori club $2
Storyboard $40 couldn't get him to budge on that price

$447 for that whole lot

The ONLY thing I didn't think was a total outright bargain was the 5 foot $125 paddle.
The pipe, daggers, and kava kava man were about where they should be for swap meet stuff.
Everything else I feel like I stole at those prices.

Buzzy Out!

I think EVERYTHING there is/was a good price but i guess that's more coming from my perspective of never really seeing anything like any one of those pieces here in Australia at all, and if i did i can assure you the asking price would be a lot higher than the prices you paid.

Your $447 spend, which is a lot to spend in one week, is just over $600AUS and i could never see myself spending that much in one week, but having said that, if i stumbled upon so many great pieces i probably would just because i'd be kicking myself for not buying it when i had the chance, knowing that the odds of finding so much cool stuff at once is very unlikely to happen here.

For the record, the large PNG mask i posted on the previous page i paid $200AUS (talked down to $230), about $145US, and the reason why i bought it was because it's a great size, in very good condition, and the VERY few times i've seen something similar for sale it's been at least two, if not three times the price. What would something like that sell for over there?

I'd say that 98% of all 'Tiki' stuff we see here in Australia is a combination of either tacky tourist New Zealand souvenirs, like the boats i posted today ($20 and $11.25), or PNG pieces that are usually very expensive, or damaged, usually both.

UT

I almost felt dirty pulling out the twenty dollar bill to buy these.

Uncle Trav, we'll give you a $20 for them if it will make you feel better! Marie says we'll even make you deliver them so you'll feel real good!

Kahiki souvenir pendant and mug from The Top, which is a place every Kahikiphile should visit at least twice!

LOL thanks guys !!! I'm not really feeling bad enough for a road trip. Thanks for the offer though :D :D it just goes to show that Michigan can still surprise a guy with some good finds.

It sure can, and as can be seen in Tipsy's latest Illinois estate posts, there's good stuff there too -- Ohio hasn't been bad either -- this little swath of the Midwest still has plenty of tiki gold!

Look at what I found at the Tonga Hut Tiki Wonderland event this afternoon, I am stoked.

I posted the storyboard and Maori piece I got this week on the last page. I found a handful of tiki related matchbooks in a giant lot I bought to end the weekend.

The bark masks and roof panels are for sale near me. Can anyone comment on approximate age and value? Thanks

Uku, your pix only show some cool masks. I dunno if anyone can tell you much about them. Are they painted and carved or just painted? Dimensions? how bout some side views.
The bottom one in the middle looks like it’s carved and is PNG. You can’t give too much info-I ‘m sure you’ll get plenny help from some very knowledgeable folks here on TC.
Good luck

Nui

Here are more pics. The two roof panels are about 45 inches tall. All items are supposedly made from sago bark and about 30 years old. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
