Wow Buzzy. My collection of maori pieces is getting pretty large but it looks like i have a ways to go before i catch up to you.

These are all my finds over the past month (roughly in order of when i found them).

Cool mini ships lantern.

A few wooden maori carvings, a pair of S&P shakers and a book on New Zealand which has some great photos in it. A carved wood and bamboo wind chime and a Coco Joe's pen holder. (That had some discolouration on it you can just see in the top photo. I actually had some brown shoe dye which matched the colour and covered it up beautifully).

A mug, small PNG carving with a boars tooth and shells and a Hawaii shot glass.

These were some pretty exciting finds. I went out to an area that i hadn't been to in a long time to check out the thrift stores and in the very first one i found the Treasure Craft piece for a bargain. I found the male dancer when i was in the U.S. last year so now i just need to find the girl. (It has actually been broken and repaired but you can barely notice it. I didn't see it myself until i got home). About three doors down in the front window of another store i found the bottle opener and then the moai from another store in a different suburb. I thought it was one of the plastic aquarium ornaments when i first saw it on the shelf but it seems to be made out of hebel (aerated concrete).

These two were actually bought online. The bookends had been on eBay and i was keeping my eye on them but they were a little more than what i really wanted to pay. Now ironically, the night before i found the bottle opener pictured above i had saved all the photos of the tiki pieces that that company, Sovereign Woodware, had made into a folder and thought to myself, "I have three different pieces of theirs -out of 21- but there is no way i will ever find everything they ever made". And then the next day i found the bottle opener. After that i came home and bought the bookends right away, so that makes 5/21. Still a long way to go but it's a start.

A ceramic barrel mug with handle (i actually found a larger version a few months ago that is exactly the same). A couple more wooden maori carvings. A carved wooden Ku cup and a bamboo bangle. I have been looking for some bamboo bangles forever and typically, when i finally find one it doesn't fit me.

A beat up pair of large carved spoon and fork for a bargain. Has three full tikis on it and a face - the most i've ever seen.

And after hitting twelve thrift stores today i only found ONE thing, but it at least it was something very cool.

SwiZ- dats a good month my friend

Sent you a PM stevekh.

Cheers hang10. I think i've cleaned out my side of the city. Going to have find some new places to hit.

Still watch this thread and am always pleased with seeing everyone's finds. I am still hunting and finding new items to add to my collection and have been busy, but this was a pretty good week, so I thought I would share.

Tiki Farm gold toothed Goof and Ken Ruzic Pingo,

Marq stone Tiki.

Now I have a pair.

Treasure Craft Tiki salt and peppers and a HIP Tiki paperweight.

Trader Vic's Suffering Bastard decanter.

Unusual California 1960's Tiki lighter, cannot make out the manufacturer.

Kona Kai salt and pepper.

A pair of Tiki Bob's Maori mugs.

Treasure Craft Tiki Wall plaque.

Treasure Craft Moai.

Bumatay style carved Kava bowl, never seen one like this before?

1970's velvet painting brought back from soldier from Vietnam war.

This I found a couple months back. Sasha B candle holder similar to my Aloha Joes but painted gold. Anyone know how to remove paint without damaging the finish underneath?

Yep, it was, indeed a good week!

Later,

PTD

Is there such a thing as a steering wheel cover that's made to look like bamboo?

This ISN'T one (I don't think) but it's what gave me the idea:

S

picked these 3 mugs over the weekend - another frankoma coconut along with an old trader vic's fogcutter mug

PsychoTikiD- :o :o :o

S

Put a deposit on this awesome PNG piece a few weeks ago and picked it up yesterday. 32" tall. It does have a large chunk missing at the back of the base which you cannot see looking at it front on (if i had taken the pic from the other side you'd see it) but other than some, what look like insect holes, and a couple of cracks on the back which are just from the wood drying over time, it's in great condition for what i think was a good price. Any large PNG carvings that I've ever come across are always damaged in some way and a few i saw a long time ago in a shop that is now gone, they were museum quality and the prices reflected that, so I'm pretty happy with this find.

Found this Doug Horne/tiki Farm mug at a thrift today. 1rst mug find in a long time. The detail is much crisper than the one I bought brand new in ‘07

BallParkBuzzy you really got Dan's attention with all those records. He loves records as much as tikis.

I can't believe all the great stuff on the last two pages. You are all major hunter gatherers.

Congratulations on all the finds. Wendy

Dat’s a lot less den I spent for mine.

Good Evening all!
It's been a while since I've posted anything, but I was gifted something and I think it's pretty cool, I hope you will too. Provenance wise we know it was purchased in 1978 by my friend's former boss for a luau party at a Swinge-uuhh.... "Adult Social Club" :wink:, where it stayed and presided over the hot tub area until the club closed for good in July of 2015. Sadly something during the last party it was knocked over and the top broke off (I've got the piece, don't worry) The act of fixing it will probably get a thread of it's own. Anyway, without further ado;

Thanks for looking

T R, Nice tiki-nice story.

Travner, as a huge Indy fan, I have to ask: is your handle a nod related to Marion's father, or just a coincidence?
Cheers!

What's that guy made of?

Never mind,
I hadn't made it to creating yet.
I'm sure glue would be fine to repair it.
Most likely it would break else where be for
the glue would give out.

Why yes indeed it is sir, well done! It is also my handle over on the Indy Gear/ COW forum if you ever happen to be in that neighborhood.
Good to meet you and be met!
Cheers Indeed!

It's a super dense poly foam of some sort, similar to Great Stuff expanding foam insulation or what happens when you get Gorilla Glue really wet, which for a mass produced item makes sense when you think about it. You used to be able to get high quality Halloween decorations made along the same principal about 15 years ago or so that would actually hold up to weather and reuse. Believe me it's not that way anymore!
It actually has a little heft to it as well, more than you'd think knowing it's painted foam. I wonder if they have the base weighted somehow?

H

Nice piece Travis, looks great even when its broken on top.

Thanks. Hopefully it won't look like that for long

Score...

Hello again.
I picked these up at a thrift store the day I was gifted the tiki above, with everything going on I hadn't had a chance to post it. Noticed the torches peeking out from under a stack of stuff that hadn't been priced yet. Tahitian drink and dinner menus with a note shoved inside documenting someone's relationship to Gene. I figured I better post these before they get packed away. Enjoy

BB

It only took driving across two states, but I've finally found my first tiki mugs!
A pair of Orchids of Hawaii leilani style mugs from the Hawaiian Inn.

Other finds from the trip to Northern IN:

A Coco Joe's "Bathing Pele" ashtray & pipe holder.

A small hula girl figure by Coco Joe.

A reclining Menehune by Polystone.

And a pair of matchbooks from Kon Tiki Ports in the Chicago Sheraton.

All in all, a good weekend.

Found some Buzzy stuff
:)

I think this is one of my first posts in this part of tiki central, if not my actual first, lol. I don't find much in the wild here in New Jersey. But.....

I scored a HUGE puffer for $40 down in Cape May this weekend. He's not a light but he's really big, I'd say approximately 15" in diameter. I'm stoked. No pictures because he's safe in a cardboard box and taped up. He's going to live at our new beach house at the end of the month after the last renter leaves. :)

Lori- score
Pics when it's up
:)

Will do, Jon!
