Here is a typical(?) peanut hiball mug I picked up but can't seem to find its match on Ooga Mooga. The bottom is unglazed. No marks. Who made it?

Pikeys Dog posted on 01/24/2014

Looks like a Quon Quon tiki mug.

The sticker looks like a foil "Made In Japan" sticker that has been 'washed' off.

PD, Thanks for responding. It does look like the Q-Q peanut mug but there are differences. No jewels in the eyes. Softer teeth. Also the label is a garage sale label...75 cents. Of course that doesn't mean it's not Q-Q.
Duncan Hobbyist has a lined peanut on OM. Maybe they also had a non-lined one as well.

New stuff:

Raining Maori tourist art the last few days
I ran into a friend at the swap meet last week who was "downsizing" his tiki collection. I went to his house and tried to help him out by "upsizing" my Maori collection a bit:

Grabbed two more at Don's International Tiki marketplace, and then another at the swap meet this morning

Another swap meet one:

Hobby mug:

What's the ooga mooga official name for this one? I never found one before.

Framed Maori cloth piece. It's a little water damaged.

Giant, new Los Angeles Steamship Co Art Deco styled print:

The frame is 3' x 4'.

Buzzy Out!

Buzzy, I think the Maori cloth piece is a tea towel. I've seen quite a few New Zealand tea towels available for sale on etsy.com. Some, like yours, are really cool looking.

I know they're still making these, so it's not a huge score, but you can't get them with the Kahunaville/ Treasure Island imprint any more.

Instead you have these things, which is just sad.

When my wife and I stayed at TI, we went to Kahunaville a lot, because, well, Frankie's wasn't just downstairs from us right? I picked the Poolside Pineapple up off Ebay because a) I'd never seen it before, and b) it's a place I've been. Well, and c) I thought the white would be a nice contrast in my collection.

It's a shame they switched over to the plastic monstrosities. Any one have any idea when they did that?

New stuff:

Strangely, it's all the same as some of the old stuff...

Maori salad tossing set:

I have another set with the same heads, but different spoon styles

Resin Maori hanging key hook:

I have another just like this, but it doesn't have the key hooks and stands on a carved wooden base instead.

Trader Vic's stirrer stick and a Coco Joes letter opener

I have another stirrer like this, but it doesn't say Trader Vic's on the back. I also have another Coco Joes hula letter opener like this, but it's straight.

Tiki Farm Mai Kai mug. Glaze job like this, I can see why they stopped making them in Mexico

I have another mug from the Mai Kai, but it's vintage.

Matson ashtray:

Might be a new one for me...

Big fork and spoon set

I have another set this size, but it's a lighter color.

Four foot by six foot piece of tapa:

I have two other pieces of tapa like this, but they are larger.

Hang10, seeing your post and pics about only finding 1 shaker reminded me of an idea I had on here years ago...2002 to be exact after I used the search....

There should be a thread, people post the single shakers they have in their collection....then either buy, trade or whatever with other TC people that have the mate.

Think of it as a matchmaking service for S&P shakers...

the idea went nowhere in 2002 on here...maybe it'll catch on now and somebody will lead the charge...

Seriously!
And if you notice in the background, you see wrenches hanging. Yes this bottle resides over the sink in the garage.
I don't know the guy well enough to throw out there that "if he ever got tired of it it would have a good home with me", and with the tone he used when he told me about it, there is obviously some sentimental value there.
The next best thing I can do is subtly impress upon him the treasure he has so that maybe he moves it to a safer spot at least.

BK
Big Kahuna posted on 02/08/2014

Dude! Just ask the guy. Explain your hobby to him & show him some pics of your stuff. Sure doesn't look like he's got much of an attachment to the stuff, if it's just hanging in the garage.

N''
nui 'umi 'umi posted on 02/08/2014

I shuddered when I saw the wrenches. I googled Cognac Gautier images. It appears they’re still in business and they put out some cool nautical style lanterns as well as the fish floats. Big K has a point but what works for him might not work for you. we’re all different -thankfully. If I barely knew the fella I would just ask him . If I knew him fairly well I would drop some big ol hints. Follow your gut.
Good luck!

Craigslist find:
I saw an ad for a tiki/desk table a few weeks ago on local craigslist. From my early days on TC, I recognized the table as being carved by Tiki Diablo. They were asking way out of my budget for it, so I didn't call on it at that time. The ad disappeared after a week, and I wondered if anyone saw it and ever picked it up. On Friday morning, the ad reappeared with a much lower price that I could happily afford. So I grabbed it:
Image Missing: https://tikicentral.com/resize.php/uploads/4531/52f7d282.jpg?w=1280&h=1280&fit=max&sharp=5&s=33dce64fa416b412eb77f08f52ea667a
32 inches high, 3' wide by 5' long. They bought it 3-4 years ago at a consignment/antiques store in Orange County for $950. I kinda felt bad paying them only what I did for it, but they REALLY needed to get rid of to free up some space and were willing to part with for next to nothing. They tried to do research on it before they sold it, but came up blank because it was signed "Danny 'Chiki'." I told them all about my nice new table and the artist who carved it- AFTER I paid, loaded, and strapped the thing down in the back of my truck!

Searching tiki daily, I've averaged only one tiki purchase every three years on craigslist...
Buzzy Out!

Fear not, I'm assessing the situation, planting seeds, all that jazz. Our 9 year olds are best friends so, I'll see him again.
That being said, the feeling I got when he talked about it was: he knows it's cool, plus it reminds him of his dad, but he doesn't know quite what to do with it, i.e.; not quite ready to give them up yet.

It was our conversation about it that made him get out the bamboo cup with the swizzles.

Actually I could see him latching on to the hobby himself possibly, he's already on the periphery with his whole house done in nautical style and the stuff he and his wife bring back from Hawaii every year.

Yours looks like it came from the same mold just that interesting glaze/paint job.

So its either from one of those companies---I am guessing The Pottery Hawaii since the size is pretty much the same as the one I found in brown.

Hope that helps!
